One issue I have found with the construction system

    So over the past few days I have noticed a kind of annoying problem with the new construction system. I have only dabbled in it, and this thread is not about the act of building itself. The problem is that a group of players will build a base in an area, and then sit in there base as we lose the actual regional base. Unmoving, unacting. uncaring. We may have 12-24 pop in a region vs 2 or 3 adversaries, but I would be the only one trying to actually defend our territory. I dont see a way to fix this, but my god is it ever stupid.

    Sand box. If they're having fun doing what they're doing it's just as valid as doing what you find to be fun.

    Oh and if it helps keep this game going longer all the very best to them!

    Except for when their actions, or inaction, in many cases, leads to continent losses. When they build their base too far back to be useful or an enticing target, and guard it with too many men. Don't get me wrong, I'm not complaining. Nobody has to actually participate in the main effort and whatever's fun is fun. Base building for the sake of base building, however, is not good strategy and my faction on my server has been suffering because of it.

    I'm a big fan of the base building system and don't think this issue warrants any sort of gameplay mechanic change to 'fix' it. Just my two cents.

    The game's victory conditions were completely overturned with the construction system. Owning a hex isn't anywhere near as important as it used to be. HIVEs are generating victory points for your side over time. This means that continent locking is essentially on a timer, instead of a threshold. Whoever refines enough cortium to win, wins, hex ownership be damned.

    This is the new metagame.

    Oh yeah, don't get me wrong. Every incredibly powerful tool can be used in a stupid and ineffective way in this game. This complaint seems to be more of an issue with newbie players trying the game and using the shiny new toys, and its hard to blame new players (like me, btw) for being uninformed.

    Disagree entirely. HIVEs are only worth placing if you can place them towards the middle, or if you have an enemy pushed towards their warpgate. You can say that once they've achieved this, they can just focus all their effort on defending their HIVE, but you're still wrong. If the enemy gets more HIVEs up that are closer, they HAVE to take the offensive, or they'll run out of time. Even if the enemy doesn't have HIVEs, if they take the bases that are supporting your HIVE, that base is now running on extremely limited vehicle support. Wraith flashes, valkyrie and galaxy drops become super effective, as you can essentially wipe out the defense by taking out their spawn sunderers.

    If anything, taking bases is far more important than before. If you haven't been paying attention, the factions that have not yet realized this are the ones that are struggling the most.

    Thats the problem. Its a meta game, but it is taking away from the actual game.

    What is the actual game? At what point does the 'metagame' and 'actual game' become two separate things?

    So the issue isn't with the construction system at all but, rather, with the players?
    So, nothing new?

    Dumps some points into your charisma (Cha) and use /region chat.

    People are still learning, certing, and having fun with their new toys, nothing wrong with that. I would figure a good % of peeps to be non-combatants atm, unless their new toys are threatened, which is also part of the newness. Probly less so as time goes on.

    I didn't say that taking hexes wasn't important, just not as important as it used to be. If the enemy has HIVES set up near your warpgate your objective SHOULD NOT BE to take the hex, but to destroy the HIVE. In that scenario the facility in the hex plays a supporting role, not a primary role. The primary objective is the HIVE. This is another reason why hex facilities have HUGE no-build zones around them.

    You have it backward. The metagame is the actual game, because it is the purpose of the game. We could just have no bases at all and just have an MMO FPS deathmatch to see who can stay on top of the leaderboard for the longest, but we don't. We have objectives to play for. That is the game.
