On 7/9 - TR *asked* to be double teamed

I ask this very often myself with the NC, normally the excuse from fellow NC members is that the TR hates us, however I do admit, when we make a stupid move we do make a stupid move when it comes to taking territory. In hossen, one of our larger outfits took over that Dam which forced us to fight Vanu and TR on multiple fronts due to the fact that the outfit wanted to take the TR amp station.

Personally I can take note of a threat, I suppose the best way to avoid total confrontation with a faction you don't really want to fight is to let that faction take territory until they reach a point you can halt their assault. The less lattice lines you give to one enemy the more you can focus your offense to the faction that needs to be kicked out given that they have some sort of advantage over the others. This can be said with any threat that involves having two factions gang up on you, normally those with higher populations would be more easily spread out while those with lesser should focus on fighting within the least amount of branching connections until they say "Screw this we are going nowhere" and go off to fight the more higher populated but more spread out threat. Problem is that with those of lesser population they need to learn how to not "Push forward" in such a situation and this could involve 2 of the 3 factions, not just one with the lowest pop. Doing so would result in the faction your trying to not fight actually "Fight" you until pushed back further. This would give the chance for the larger faction to grab territory and the like.

However focusing population on fronts of enemies you don't wish to fight would drain population for other fights. Basically you want a stalemate going on in say, a bio lab or a tower base, you don't want to flood your population into it otherwise you lose territory to the faction with the highest population. I often say that a biolab can be a black hole of death and destruction. Which is true if you throw everyone into one. Despite what people say about this game being all about "Population", thing is that it can also be about "Manipulation" in order to cater fights to become more enjoyable and fair. Often I don't see factions employing "Zerg halt" tactics due to the fact that the concept of "Twisting the knife" is more favorable than "Breaking down the great wall".

Thanks for all the responses to the OP. I had sort of expected to get flamed but everything was pretty constructive.

I'm not sure I agree with the PPA and Orion stuff. The PPA is a nasty bit of work but you just have to keep your head down and make a decision that you want to take out that tank. All tanks run from infantry if the infantry decides they want to do something about it. The Orion is an awesomesauce LMG (VERY fun to use) but it's not game breaking.

I will say though that VS are indeed hard to see on Hossin, especially at night. They have always been hard to see though. Their default camo blends in with night as well as the inside of bases. But - TR and NC can put on camo that mimics this (I use a black camo on my NC toons).

My hope is that this TR-NC thing is a phase and will pass after some time. Getting double teamed is like getting punched in the nose. Even a lab animal knows that if you do action X and get punched in the nose that it's best not to do X. Players will collectively learn.

It's really up to the LEADERS though to stop this silliness. Be logical in your decisions. If it makes sense to attack NC or TR then do so. If it makes sense to attack VS then do so. Try to undertand your enemy as well. If you corner a faction they are going to fight you regardless if you are already fighting someone else.

Sorry man. I've got a BR100 NC and having played VS enough to get handy with the Orion, it is NOT OP. It's a easy gun to pick up and get started with but it has a lower skill ceiling. The EM6 (as one example) is overall a superior gun IMO.

I will agree the SAW is probably a poor choice for a starter weapon though. It bucks like a bronco and is tough for noobies to use. It does teach some good gun-control discipline though and if you get good with it then transition to a "better behaved" gun like the Anchor, the Orion, or the Carv then you'll feel like you've flipped on easy mode.

many ppl including me are just looking for a balanced fight in a hex. they play to shoot stuff but in a challenging and fair way, no spawn camping or being spawn camped. a base is just a place to meet up with your opponents, not a place to take or hold at all cost. they don't care about territory chess, because it doesn't matter. and if it mattered, I would have stopped playing long ago, because territory is only a reflection of the current empire populations on that continent.

Seriously Doombro? YOU are going to cry out weapon imbalance? I'm sorry you guys are so frustrated with us VS. I think they should nerf the lynx down to 845 rpm and give it 143 base damage and 100 at 65 meters. I really don't care about the Orion, there are far better carbines and assault rifles for the niche it fills and for the heavy part of it, an Ursa or a Flare with extended magazine isa better answer so, go ahead, nerf low BR vs all you want. Go ahead, nerf the PPA down, of course that will directly lead to a nerf of the prowlers main cannon.

The fact is, it isn't even about that. There are more VS on Emerald and players from Waterson already knew the VS there was pretty tough and now we have pop. You can call out about default cammo too if you want but once the vast majority of us higher BR VS have after market cammns with composite armor so it wouldn't affect us like you like it to. You would be able to kill low BRs better I guess, that won't make you win though.

Because virtually NO ONE fights for territory along the flow-chart any more and just looks for fights they prefer.

The first part I agree with: We're all here for fun.

The second part, not: Territory is NOT a reflection of the population. It should be but it's not.

What I'm getting at here is that stupid leadership decisions are leading to a situation where 2 of the 3 empires are starved for resources and options of where to fight. As a result, some (difficult to measure) amount of fun is being removed.

Speaking of fun, this is the order that I personally stand by:
    1. A VERY even fight that I ultimately win.
    2. A VERY even fight that I ultimately lose.
    3. An uneven fight that I win.
    4. A ghost cap (getting into "not fun" now)
    5. Getting the everliving **** curbstomped out of me. (aka, an uneven fight that I lose)

Because leaders are not making logical decisions on who to fight the VS get to have #1 and #3 all the time while TR and NC get a lower proportion of these.

That balanced fight in a hex does not just magically happen in a vacuum. You may be content to have those fights but someone somewhere is playing the metagame so that such fights are possible. I hope you at least appreciate that.

There are lots of reasons for this but I think it comes down to simple mindness. Its easier to look at the map and just say "they are fighting there so lets go there" rather than look for a place that actually helps the grand scheme.
  12. Axehilt

That's only true because the underdogs fight each other (which creates more pop-disadvantaged fights than if they fought the leader properly.)
  13. Matixzun

This. Honestly, even before the merge I've considered the VS just a pain in the *** to fight against.
  14. JibbaJabba

The point I was making is more nuanced than this.

Please spend a bit of time analyzing the lattice lines of Hossin.

Every faction has a tech plant that is a single facility hop from them in the counter-clockwise direction from the warpgate. The techplant in the other direction is a two facility hop and well into "enemy" territory. Holding your counter-clockwise techplant is quite expected. Holding the clockwise tech plant is fully intruding into the enemy territory and for practical purposes very close to warpgating.

    Second nuance..
If a faction has no techplant, expect them to try to get one. Also expect them to grab the one right next to their warpgate (counter-clockwise) Snatching away the counter-clockwise techplant on hossin is backing a faction into a corner and forcing them to fight. This is what TR was doing. It was stupid, there was no need for two techplants, and it was an unnecessary diversion of forces that should have been fighting the VS.

So in this case although NC was the aggressor it was the fault of the TR. You might as well blame the fighting between factions X & Y on faction X when faction Y warpgates them.

Platoon and Outfit leaders understand this... or at least they should.

Trust me, it's no fun for the NC either.

Personally, I think it's just an remnant of the old metagame circa Pre-nerf Striker and ZOE. At that time, VS and TR blatantly avoided each other to go after the perceived easier kill (coincidentally, it did make us an easier kill since we often got spread way too thin).

Honestly, I hope this changes. To be honest, I don't really mind fighting the VS. I generally fight both factions equally depending on what needs defending on the map.

    The last point I'll add...

While I was playing TR and fighting VS... we were winning and having fun. The purple just aren't that scary. Red needs to get over it.
  17. Posse

Something I noticed is that TR and NC are avoiding us on Hossin, for some reason there's always massive VS overpop on Hossin

Last night Hossin was something like 50/20/30 while Amerish was 20/40/40

    TR: MCG, Pounder, Banshee...
NC: lolhammer 1 (jackhammer), lolhammer 2 (airhammer), ScatMAX...

    Should I continue?
  18. Rager

Can I ask why are people so scared of VS? I use to play on vs, and changed because they are kinda boring. So why are people so scared of them? Yes they have some good skilled players, but NC feels like when it comes to leadership they are amazing.

Is it because people don't care about capping points? Is it because VS has op weapons? I don't understand, My knowledge of VS is just having a NOVA and C4 that is it. I fear NC guns and maxes more when I was VS. Now that I am NC I don't get what NC is so scared of, or TR.
  19. JibbaJabba

Go play TR and NC for a bit on Hossin. VS are very, very difficult to see. The problem I'm describing happens on all 4 continents but it becomes much more pronounced on Hossin because the atmosphere combines with VS appearance to make a very real impact on the game balance.

I'm all for finding a fun fight, staying there and ignoring the overall well being of the faction, at times myself.
