Or rather, the 334 damage scout rifle VS the 400 damage Semi-auto sniper. I trialed the Phantom for a while and it 'felt' better but it could have merely been a lucky streak. Alternatively the short range Bolt action seemed interesting.
Phantom tends to perform better. Average KDR among players with auraxium medal: Phantom 2.49 Nyx 2.06 However, having used the Nyx, it's a fun weapon and makes less sound. It's probably the quietest primary weapon in the game when suppressed (I've got over 500 kills with it with the suppressor on, KDR > 5). Ghost performs even better at KDR 2.71, but it's largely preference whether you prefer bolt actions or semi autos. Perhaps those who prefer semi autos would not have higher KDR with the Ghost.
Well both rifles are capable of killing with two headshots. The phantom has more stopping power but quickly loses accuracy with successive shots. If you're not pacing, after about the third shot you need to pause, otherwise luck becomes more important than aim. Also because it is a sniper rifle, its CoF values suffer heavily from movement. The Nxy on the other hand has a slight edge in velocity and rate of fire, but nothing to write home about. However it's significantly more accurate when mobile, and can put out more rounds before CoF bloom rears its head. Another thing to consider is the bullet drop issue for VS. For the NC and TR (Shadow/Impetus or HSR/KSR) the fact that one is classed as a sniper rifle and the other as a scout means that they have different bullet drop over range regardless of velocity. Since neither weapon has shot drop for the VS a slight selling point is lost for the iron rail sniper (Phantom) Personally, I prefer the scout rifle of the pair since I feel you can use it more comfortably in a wider range of situations. Without the shot drop issue I'd probably definitely roll with the Nyx. But spend some VR time with them and see which 'feels' better to you. As for the Iron Rail bolt action. yes, but it. why don't you have it already? buy it buy it buy it buy it
I'd go for the phantom because its 3 shot-kill capability is far more consistent. Only max rank nanoweave on non-infiltrator classes make it a 4 shot in close range, whereas the nyx is a 4 shot kill with even the slightest damage reduction. As for the ghost, if you're accurate, it's amazing. So yeah, get it. It's very cheap too!
