We have a creepy animoo infection, quickly someone burn it before it spreads.

    That is some serious skill.

Nah it's a cultural difference, obviously those who do not have this cultural view, or who view it objectionable will view it as a bit odd... like eating bugs or domestic animals, or various tribal rituals. In this case it's actually culturally reconcilable, as both japanese and western culture have actively and overtly objectified women for the majority of their existence. Japan has a fairly interesting cultural history, partially due to the non-unified microcosms of culture and art and their occasional zeal for incorporating and appreciating other cultures, followed by their exceptional transformation catalyzed by ww2.

Basically they're in a state where the traditional view of women as property, ie the eldest male owns all females within the family unit (if this wasn't apparent to you, it should explain various pornographic plotlines), and inherent objectification that comes with this type of view, is kind of repressed by a western idealized front... so the various obvious sexist ideals are not being presented overtly (though don't get me wrong many of them totally are - check out some blogs/vlogs of foreigners in japan for a taste), but being expressed in a more passive sense. As such it's a bit of an underpinning in the society.

And obviously western culture still has some fairly hefty objectification, and aspirations of objectification... and to be fair our biology does no make this transition - should we ever commit to it - any easier (when the hormones kick in you're not looking for a soulmate or life partner). Obviously many people who come into contact with japanse culture find this objectification, and most importantly the lack of presented controversy to be very much to their taste.

Or to put it simply, guys love *******.

    SOE should make this happen.

Sometimes I wonder if Japan is like this because we nuked them, or because we didn't nuke 'em enough. :p

What do you mean? The pic I posted was a creation out of Boston Dynamics. We make the real shtuff, the Japanese just get artistic with it.

I was going to make a joke about how easily she rolls over, but then I realized what I was about to say and I became sad.

I don't think I quoted your picture... so why would you think that I was responding to your post?
  10. NCstandsforNukaCola

Funny but you got me wrong
    I am not japanese :p
  11. NCstandsforNukaCola

I'd take other words but this went too far
If you don't like it, just don't make post like that seriously
  12. Buttwasp

What does that mean in English?
  13. Alarox

    Unfortunately, I can.

What a horrible thing to say.

Gee. It's almost as if people will say bad things about you if you invade most of Asia and launch a cowardly surprise attack on the United States...

Oh wait, I forgot. Japan doesn't like to talk about that period of history. According to them, things just go from samurai to Pokemon, nothing in between. Nothing to see here folks!
  16. Iridar51

I will not defend whatever Japan and USA did or did not do during the war, simplest reason being I'm simply not qualified in history. For example, I was extremely surprised to discover that the country to suffer the most casualties during the war was China, which to my knowledge didn't even participate in the war.

However, I am amazed how you can talk about murdering hundreds of thousands of civilians like it's a good thing. At the very best this can be justified like an extremely unfortunate measure, that was absolutely necessary to end the war to prevent even more deaths. But you sound like the only thing you regret about is that you didn't get to press the magical button yourself. Sick.

If you're in elementary school, you get a pass. But if you're over the age of 12, and you didn't even know that China was involved in WWII...

Then I would imagine you also have no knowledge of the various war crimes, crimes of aggression, executions, genocides, and good old fashioned pillaging that Japan was up to?

See, using nuclear devices in order to prevent greater loss of life is indeed a good thing. Dropping the bombs on Japan saved American lives; an invasion was unnecessary once we broke their will to resist. It saved Chinese/Korean/Filipino lives because it showed the Japanese that they would pay for their crimes. And arguably it saved Japanese lives because the civilian deathtoll from an Allied invasion would have probably surpassed the nuclear detonations.

Do I think dropping the bombs was a good thing? Sure. Would I press the metaphorical button if we had to do it again? You betcha. Call it one part "ends justify the means" and one part "they sure as heck worked hard to deserve it". It'd be the equivalent situation where I have a gun in my hand and a mass murderer in my sights. You can be sure I'd appreciate the justice of it all, and who can fault me for enjoying that?

Now to be clear I'm only talking about 1930s-1940s Japan; the Japanese people today have relatively little responsibility for the crimes committed by Japan during the Second World War (not enough to warrant a nuke at least). Apart from an appalling lack of moral responsibility (and a resurgence towards right-wing nationalism), the Japanese people of today are pretty chill about it all, and their greatest sin is ignorance.

But 1945 Japan? Yea, they got what was coming to them.
  18. Iridar51

History is my weak point; always was. It was pretty poorly educated in my school, and I wasn't really interested in it in the first place. That said, how much naive can you be to believe everything they tell you in school? Ever heard of "history is written by the victor"? Or "one man's terrorist is another man's freedom fighter".
But once again, my problem is not with what was done, but your attitude towards it.

I can. In my opinion, feeling enjoyment of killing someone is wrong, however justified.
I'm sure the families of civilians killed that day would disagree.

But they haven't implemented the flamethrowers yet
and when they do, they'll probably come on a cute anime MAX suit

While I would agree that dropping the nukes was the right decision, you shouldn't celebrate it or say "they got what was coming to them." The problem is, the ones who died weren't the ones who deserved it. They were by and large innocent civilians. Individuals don't share in the responsibility of the crimes of their leaders, even if they support those leaders. In no sense is war "justice." It's just that killing the enemy is often the only way to stop more people from dying.
