    Here's the deal guys:

I have about 1200 USD saved up, and am looking to get a new rig that can run this with ultra settings 60fps consistently in large battles. I hope there's a way, thanks guys!

Well it depends entirely on what you're looking for. Cost effectiveness? I mean, anyone here could just tell you to build a rig with an i7 and 3 gtx 980s and 60gigs of ram, which would definitely run the game well.
Are you looking to spend all $1200? Or only as much as you need to make a rig to play Planetside?

My build in my signature only ran me $900, including the case, PSU, CD drives and everything. I can link you the build on PCPartspicker when I get home. It runs ~100fps normally on Ultra and ~60fps in big battles.

Yes, please! Link me the build.

Will do. It has a great graphics card, but is lacking in the CPU department. If you have $1200, you could easily upgrade to an i7 and it would be a fantastic PC, not that my CPU has ever held me back, especially now that PS2 supports multithreading.

    I have:
    Intel i7-4790s
    12GB DDR3
    GTX750
You might be able to get a stronger graphics card in that budget. OR! You can get three monitors!

For $1200, you could easily build a rig with dual GTX 780s and an i5, which would basically destroy anything you could throw at it.

Pretty much this. I have one GTX 780, and even that's an overkill for PS2 single monitor 1080p.

To OP: check out Tom's Hardware "System Builder Marathon" articles in "Build Your Own" section. Basically, guys are trying to find the most cost effective options within a certain budget, and they really know what they're doing. So feel free to just copy any of their builds.

    I can confirm. I have a i7-3770K with a 780ti and PS2 runs perfectly. I was originally playing on a E6750 with a GTX460 ;P
  10. JohnGalt36

Here is my build. Like I said, the CPU could be upgraded to make it even better.

The GTX 970 is an amazing card for the price. Its also rather cool and quiet, which I really love. The upper end i5's are all beasts as well while being rather cool and quiet compared to AMD chips.

Toms hardware has great recommendations for CPUs and GPUs.

I suggest saving some $$$ and going AMD CPU like an FX (non "E" version).

    I suggest running:

    CPU: AMD FX8320/50/70
Motherboard: pick one that good for overclocking and has at least 140watts on the socket. Asus or ASRock
GPU: GTX 780(ti, 970. AMD 7970, 280x, 290(x) You can get most of these cards second hand for cheaper
RAM: choose 16GB, seems that PS2 uses a lot of RAM
PSU: Pick according to your GPU of choice
SSD: your choice, loads game(s) quicker, does not give more FPS
    Add everything else you need.

Live in the US? find a local microcenter for steals on CPU+motherbaord Combo's.

    I run three gaming PC's

Two are running AMD FX 8320, one has a GTX 660 Ti, the other has a AMD 290

My man cave PC is an i5 3570k@4.5ghz and a R9 290 1150/1500, lots of SSD's and such, etc....

Just a reminder that PS2 scales horribly with multi-GPU SLI setups. Some people have even experienced fps drops.

    No, don't get AMD, ever.

    AMD is crap, end of.

Yes but most people don't build a rig to play just one game. A single 780 will be more than plenty for PS2, but then you'll have the second one ready to obliterate the more recent games like TW3.
And do not go AMD. Not only is an AMD cpu not really even a cost effective choice anymore, but AMD's single-thread performance is laughably bad, even when compared to Intel's entry-level Pentium CPUs (which only run ~$70, hence why AMD is not really even a 'good deal'), meaning CPU-intensive games will suffer. And Planetside is one of the most CPU-intensive games I know of. I have been building PCs for years and I really cannot stress how much I advise you not to go AMD. :/

Op get arma 3. amazing game but requires a lot of modding and you'll have to go on the forums to get int touch with the kind of people you want to play with as there's a lot of milsim guys and it can be a bit freaky lol.
  18. Ragnarox

AMD is not for MMO gaming. Buy Intel. Or you will regret it.

I have AMD and it holds its own decently. Plus you can't go wrong with the price.
