    Hello everyone!
Hope you guys can help me, and got time for a semi-short read, to get me started :)

I just got PS2, been playing it very little, 4 years ago. Got an NC BR23, where i focused on MAX and HeavyAssault.
But i wasted alot of cert on various other stupid upgrades, so i think it will be better to start from scratch again.
Since there is no respec for old characters i guess?

I got some trouble getting into what i wanna cert, and what route to unlock first, that would suit my playingstyle.
I know the higher level i get the slower cert i get, cause leveling is slower.

I've seen alot of getting started "guides", everyone advices on playing medic/engineer. Tried that earlier today, leveling ammopack and repair tool to 5, and sure the xp and cert came fast, but problem is is just used 1200certs at BR10 engineer upgrades, that i probably could've used better, since i'm gonna be mostly going for kills, rather than the support playstyle. Also getting outgunned constantly on Engineer, is headache inducing like hell...

Im a very experienced fps player, so my aim is spot on. I'm used to bulletdrop and recoil management. So the easy casual go-to stuff is not really my thing.
Also played constantly air superioty in BF3, so flying is something i'm sure i'll learn quickly in PS2 aswell.

Anyways, below might help you suggest what route to take for me.

    -Playstyle:
1.) Run & Gun (Sniping, is way to boring, i wanna get in there, flank or head-first kinda gameplay.)
2.)Air (Jet was my thing in BF series, i know air handles and impact the gameplay quite differently in PS2 but hopefully it comes to me easily. Also do i need to play engineer in order to master air in PS2? .)
3.)Explosives (C4 is probably the greatest weapon in any game that includes mobilty classes.)

What faction, weapon/air-wise, would suit me aswell?

So what do i unlock first, for the best experience as a low level, that suits my playstyle?

    Thanks in advance.

And sorry if some of it sounds abit arrogant, it's definitely not the case, i'm always a teamplayer, that goes for objectives, and follow squad/platoon waypoints.

Start a new character. You'll be a BR23 again in a few hours.

Engineer and Medic are still great cert-machines, but getting kills is even better. Maxes are very weak in our current meta, and very expensive, so focusing on the Heavy Assault is a better and cheaper option, plus it's more solo-friendly and versatile. Adrenaline shield, nanoweave and med kits are the way to go for head on fighting and kill streaks, plus very cheap to cert in to. The default guns and launcher are great so no need to upgrade right away. Use ISO to get implants, not certs. For a Heavy you'll want Battle Hardened and Assimilate. Health Regen and Ammo Printer are nice for attacking in small fights, but not as good in head to head combat. When it's all said and done, do what you like and the certs will follow, so ditch your support classes for now.

Flying: The Scythe is the best ESF for dueling, but the Mosquito is the best for going up against multiple targets, and it's more forgiving to learn. The Reaver is the worst choice for 99% of players, but NC does have some of the best infantry guns, the best tank, and the best Max. Air is without question the hardest thing to learn in the game, so plan on getting owned for your first few hundred hours flying. Definitely get 1 on 1 training and practice dueling at the warpgate. When you do start to fly, keep the stock gun and fuel tanks, max Hover Stability and Fire suppression, then later use either Nanite Auto Repair or Stealth. NAR lets you fly with a Light Assault, which is nice for surviving, using the Rocklet Rifle to finish an opponent, then C4ing a tank below. If you run Stealth then you'll want to use an Engineer for the free auto repair and ability to quickly heal on the ground, but the first few levels of your tool are cheap and all you need. So no need to heavily cert your Engineer.

As for the faction, list your server and when you play and someone could possibly point you in a good direction. But all factions are pretty well balanced and have good outfits, and individual skill matters infinitely more than which faction's weapons you have.

For ESFs: choose anything that isn't VS, it isn't that easy for a newer ESF pilot to know if he is in hover mode or not as the scythe doesn't have obvious thruster like the reaver and mossy. go for max rank hover first, but I would recommend getting the first level of fire suppression and stealth. Stealth over nanite rep as you will want to stay hidden from other players while you are still learning, and to give you the greatest chance of winning any engagement by giving you the element of surprise. you should also consider getting rocket pods, these allow you to really rake in the certs if you find a good fight. play as engineer to take advantage of the passive rep as you wont be running naites auto rep.

For infantry, I would recommend playing either heavy assault or light assault.

    For heavy:
cert into med kits, keep Nano weave and the default shield.
use your default LMG, all the factions are pretty awesome but if you are as good as you say you are at FPS games, play NC and pick up the gauss saw

    For light assault:
A great way to have a lot of fun is to use the new ambusher jets, which give you huge horizontal acceleration, and just throwing yourself at enemies. unlock at least 1 brick of C4 and use it with the ambushers to yield maximum salt from the tanker/max you just obliterated!

    Hey,

Trust me when I say this, if you aim for the head which has a 2X headshots damage multiplier you will drop even the best players like flies. Carbines are some of the best guns for your play style so maybe try light assault and go for a flank then drop C4 in a crowd. BOOM! Reap the kills. Watch a montage from moukass, seems like his play style is similar as to what you want

Thank you for the detailed answers guys.
Seems like Light Assault is the way to go for me, since i can see the point in that adding to my lifespan, if i should get in trouble in air.
Also like the idea of the ambusher jet and salty C4 drops :D, and just overall mobility for flanking, and to get in and out.

So, Light Assault > ESF > Heavy Assault, in that order, is the stuff i'll focus on it seems.

I also another question. I've read there is a free Cert Respec at BR15? Is that true? Then i could just fully cert engineer repair/ammo for fast cert-farm, on all 3 factions, to get a feel of what faction i wanna focus on.

Anyways much appreciated guys, i'll see you in there, most likely on Cobalt, since i've heard, it's more team orientated combat and less cheese/zergy.

    In a nutshell:
Play HA. Use medkits. Your current ping = "advantage time" you have over everyone else. If there's way too many enemy vehicles attacking your base = get out and redeploy elsewhere. BR (levels) doesn't mean nothing. Stock weapon is the best. Minimap is your friend. Crowded fights = more chances to get killed by a ********.

Well, for factions, I'd say Vanu Sovereignty would suit you well.

Vanu weapons are kind of the middle of the road between NC weapons (hard-hitting, slow firing rate, high vertical recoil with little horizontal shake) and TR weapons (low damage, high rate of fire, low vertical recoil with huge horizontal shake), with the added bonus of a fast reload.

The Scythe, the Vanu one-man aircraft, really holds to its name when used by a good player. Unlike other aircrafts, it can stop and turn on the spot, which gives it incredible agility.

As for class, well, Light Assault would be the best for you. It uses Jetpack to flank and ambush enemies, it's really about using your surrounding to go to unexpected locations and surprise your targets.
On a side note, CQC-Infiltrators/Stalkers kinda use the same tactic of sneaky ambushes. It's as blazzing as a LA jumping from a building to another, but if you ever want to try something else while staying close to your playstyle, here you have it.

Light Assault: Default Jetpack(max rank), Nanoweave Armor 2, 2 C4 bricks, implants: Safe fall 3 and regeneration 5(trust me on this). Positioning is EVERYTHING with Light Assault.

Heavy Assault:What the guys above suggested.

Esf:I think the Mossie is the best.Could be the Scythe but its difficult for a beginner because you cant see thruster position.

Esf Loadout(until you earn a lot of certs):Stock nosegun, stock afterburner, max rank fire suppression,a couple of ranks of stealth, max rank hover stability airframe.

Also consider the Rocketpods(with maxed out ammo capacity) because they have a lot of farming potential and they will give you much better incentive to continue flying after you get WRECKED(i repeat) at A2A.Also for later down the road if you choose TR the Banshee is a TREAT! :D

Prepare to get WRECKED a LOT if you intend to fly.The obstacles will seem insurmountable!

Also if you re on Cobalt I invite you to join the Terran Republic.I hate to admit it but we are in dire need of good players.Join us if you up for challenge.Equipment wise i dont think any faction has any advantage.

Have a nice ride in PS2 with patience and epicness!PS2 is a truly singular game. You ll meet me Planetside whichever faction you choose.(But if you re blue or purple i dont think you ll enjoy it! ) :p joking

One thing in OP's first post ...
I just want to clear up this misperception. Certs never slow down. You don't get a set number per battle rank. I got 190,000+ certs before I hit battle rank 120, some people don't get 100,000 by that level. Some probably get more. The reason people recommend support classes is because support activities award more certs than lone-wolf style game play. Playing objectives will also get you more cert points. Overload generators, take and defend capture points, repair vehicles and equipment, and so on.

If, one day, you decide to play light assault, I would recommend the drifter pack w/ the Cat Like implant (if you get Cat Like to max level). When I first tried drifter, I thought it was garbage, useless. But it's incredibly versatile. Max level Cat Like at least doubles how high you can jump giving you more starting altitude and putting you over an enemies head. Max level Cat Like makes it trivial to jump over a fence or on to a box then to a roof. You can use jump pads to get enormous altitude, just engage your pack at the apogee of the jump to take control. But the real power with drifter is it's endurance and range. A maxed out drifter pack will carry you in a straight line 500 meters. If you use the flight suit you get an additional 40% more flight time. You can jump off the top of a hill or base and fly out over a field of enemy armor and C4 tanks that never see you coming. Bail out of an aircraft and drift for minutes before you get to the ground; because it recharges so fast you can trade altitude for more flight time.
The Ambusher jump jets are the fad now but if you got FPS skills, someone with ambusher won't have any advantage over you.
Also for Light Assault, use a carbine, the cone of fire doesn't blow up when you're airborne as it does with other rifles.

No problem, remember to come here again if you need anymore help.
At BR15 you do get a refund but not for weapons only other certifications like Medkits or restoration kits for example

I'm a TR main my experience with the other factions is limited but I'll offer my perspective.

For flanking I'd suggest either Infiltrator or Light Assault gameplay. The LA gets a bonus with the carbines that means it's as accurate while flying as if you were walking, I find the Jaguar with the TR is the best for LA but each faction has their own weapon with similar characteristics. Infils are more CQC with SMGs your cloak won't make you impossible to see and honestly this class might require more patience than you're willing to give.

LA and Heavy Assault get Flash Grenades and Concussion Grenades respectively, these tools each stun impacted enemies (in different ways), either is highly effective at clearing a room or dislodging a stalemate around a doorway. With "Grenade Bandolier" maxed out you'll get 4 grenades before you need to resupply at a terminal. (and yes both classes can unlock up to 2 bricks of C4 + the grenades)

While I'm no great pilot myself I hear that the VS Scyth and the TR Mosquito are generally prefered in the air. The NC Reaver being less so although I'm sure it has its fans.

When piloting an Empire Specific Fighter [ESF] as an engineer you get a passive auto repair while out of combat, you can supplement this with an upgrade that does likewise and then take another class but an engineer is most often preferred (in my experience).
  12. Luicanus

Yes, the cert respec exists and the first 14 level ups come with a bonus 100 certs too.

For ambusher Jump Jets you may wish to run the safe falling implant, the nature of those jets leaves you unable to arrest your descent from a great height o the safe fall can save your life/health.
  13. Fishpoke

Choose wisely, once you spend your points there's no undo and it'll take many hours (possibly weeks) to earn them again. You should get one recert if you had a character from launch days.
  14. Lee Weldon

The only thing I can think of that you might miss out on is, I have some directive rewards that I'd gotten before they changed it so you were rewarded for them, so for instance I only have 3 implants even though I've been through all of the infantry trees (and you'll unlock two every infantry tree you go through), this probably would of been handy but I think the 2 starter implants are good anyway. Other than that really only if you want to reset your KDA? or change your name?

I think if you're going to play light assault just don't get dissapointed if you play for a while spend all your certs and c4 gets nerfed, because that seems to be the talk of the folk. I also kinda also see infiltrator as more of a support role than a flanker. I somewhat main infil from time to time, I think you trade somewhat averagely but the SMG's are actually weaker than other weapons and you do start with a slightly lower health pool, you will help your team more with all the spotting and it will win your team lots of fights (people will rage at you and tell you not to play it because they don't understand the presence of hacking terminals and vision). The light assault will go alright regardless, carbines are second best to none, but they don't offer a lot to the team other than that they make the enemy team always have to scout rooftops and this is actually quite a good distraction. But more often than not they'll be watching the rooftops even if you never pull a light assault because of the sheer popularity of this class. I think heavy is bad although best at 1v1, the LMG's are not great, best mid-long range weapons other than maybe battle and assault rifles (probably oppinion based), another thing I like to do which is maybe something you would enjoy is you play medic, but wait for the kick... you don't actually use your heal tool whatsoever, you're not everyones heal *****, you passively heal with your ability, run revive grenade, pop up a dead ally and use him outnumber your enemy and actually use your gun to shoot people. Then you rambo into the room cause why not medics don't need to sit back.

ignore all advice on the forum and leave this game while you can >.> do not beleave the lies and BS that anyone feeds you. do not take the red pill walk away while you can and do not return. new players are not welcome in this world that is PS2 run while you still can becuse once you start to fully play. there is no exscaping the poison that is this game its worse then a drug and you will never beable to leave once you start.

    on that note.

find your self a good outfit before you start dumping certs into things nad dont ask here on the forum. you will get more then one answer for everything. your best bet is to get an outfit and talk to other memebrs in the outfit about how and what to cert into and when,

    also on another note.

if you join an outfit make sure its one that is not part of the zerg and one that actualy trys to win alerts and do something with there people. not one that says " where going to keep throwing bodys at this base "

anyway this is the only advice ill give. good luck.
  16. typnct

Id advise starting with the medic class certing the revive tool and getting into squads in tactical playstyle
Afterwards certing into la(basic cert drifter lvl 1 2 not too much) with 2 c4's
But if you like to run n gun then aux shield and nanoweave lvl 3

Try to learn advanced anti cap tactics focusing on sundies and anti tank gameplay

From br 60 id advise going heavily into whatever suits you
By then you will see what play styles you like as this fps is so much more different than any others

Also aircrafts - esf's - alow learning curve but if you focus on it then go for it and try to focus on it alone for about a week or two

Mbt's - mostly train on accuracy and intuitive balistics and weapon fire delay(about 0.2 sec after you hear it fire so aim for about a tank a tank and a half in advance)
About mbt against harrasers is a different matter - depends on the distance speed and his angle to you

Implants - doesnt datter too much as your main focus should be on char ability slots(maxing most of them instead of buying a ton of unfammiliar weapons(i use about 1 to 3 weapons in each class and the rest are just a waste))

    Anyway have fun!
