My current setup cannot run Planetside 2. This and other issues have pushed me to buy a better one, and I turn to those with (probably) much more knowledge in this area. I have two bare bones kits from tigerdirect that I'm looking at. Really, when it comes to computer hardware I'm flying blind, so help me out and have a new noob to kill! 1st: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7375903&CatId=332 This one was recommended by a friend who knows a bit more than I do about computer building. He says it should probably work. 2nd: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=7455572&sku=B69-0656 This is a random one that I can't exactly remember how I came across. There is a significant price difference between the two, and though I enjoy being a bit frugal, I can swing this more expensive setup. My only real question about this is one revolves around whether or not it is a good enough kit to justify the extra money. Please, any recommendations/advice/help is greatly appreciated!
Just let me build it for you add me on skype dtholzer First computer isn't going to run it I'll tell you that Second one will on all medium and majority of the settings on high np
If you want good performance in this game you'll need an Intel CPU. i5 or better. It's unfortunate, but that's how it is. I myself spent around $900 getting myself an i5 3750k, Nvidia Geforce GTX 670, 16 gb of ram, and a new motherboard. There are all sorts of cost saving ways to bring my $900 down to $600. Take ram down to 8 gb ddr3 1600, take the graphics card down to an Radeon 7850 (or 7870) or better. Get the i5 3750 with no "k" after it to save $20 if you don't think you'd ever overclock your CPU. Get a cheap but functional case like the Antec 300 if the old one is garbage, take as many of the components as you can from your old computer (OS, hard drives, disk drives, extra fans, power supply if 500 watts or higher (check up on power supply recommended wattage for the graphics card you buy). Regardless, as you will see from looking around the tech help forum, you need an i5 or better CPU, and sandy bridge (3xxx models) if possible. That is the foundation on which a computer that will run this game well is built. Depending on what your graphics card is, if you're fine with playing on low or medium, don't upgrade it. You're frame rate will be fine if you make some visual concessions. But no amount of low settings will change what the CPU has to compute in this game. Maybe you can find a premade somewhere with just the right specs, but in the end ordering the parts from newegg/amazon/tigerdirect/wherever is going to cost you a lot less. Putting a computer together isn't as hard as you think, and it's a good way to learn how computers work. Much like changing the oil or tire on a car, this is good knowledge to have, and will take as much time to plug together as constructing a new piece of furniture. Installing an OS is, again, not a huge deal either. Borrow a buddy's external hard drive if you need to, copy all your stuff to it, then reformat and install a new OS installation. Drag and drop your stuff back, minus the windows installation and program files (besides saves/settings if you need them). You'll need to reinstall programs, go to ninite.com to expedite that, and sort it out. You can do it.
Even if you disagree with the Intel statement, much of the rest of my post has nothing to do with that. But on that note, please show me someone with an AMD CPU that's happy with their frame rate. Tell me which current AMD CPU that will match up in PS2 performance with even an i5 2500k. The floor is yours. By good performance, I mean 40+ fps at a siege at the Crown, by the way.
This is incorrect. Set shadowquality and floraquality to low. FPS will increase. Or alternatively, try setting shadows and flora to ultra and watch fps decrease. I play PS2 with a GTX 580. With all graphics on ultra, the gpu usage is approximately 50-99%. With all graphics on ultra except low shadows and low flora, the average gpu usage is higher, because the average frame rate is higher.
the only advise i can give is dont forget that the more players are in your area fighting the lower the fps! Also, im not entirely sure if its correct but after reading a certain thread you apparently also need decent hardware to see all player around you. Once or twice I myself was in a situation where i couldnt see all enemies in my immediate area due to all the players in my area. I hope there'll come graphic options for this...
PlanetSide is turning out very good for PC hardware seller, I started playing on Friday and bought a new machine on Sunday Good luck with your rig.
You ABSOLUTELY need an Intel CPU for a processor hog like Planetside 2. Despite the budget brigade's protests that their cheap chips can run any game, and it's the developer's fault, they're ignorant and incorrect. Due to the nature of an MMOFPS you're always going to need a beast of a CPU to run PS2, so spend a little extra to save yourself pain in the future. The i5 3570K is a very affordable chip, and you can easily overclock it to 4.5GHz after just a few hours of reading and 10 minutes of tweaking. Buy a custom cooler for $40 to keep it cool, and enjoy a minimum of 50fps no matter how large the battle.
Except of course it's not. AMD is way behind the curve for gaming these days. If you are building a gaming machine you want an i5. If you want to overclock you want the 3570k.
It's true that there are certain settings which can reduce CPU load, I suppose what I was saying is that there is a bare minimum which a CPU has to be able to do to keep track of hundreds of people, bullets, rockets, vehicles, and the physics for those things in this game, the main gist of which was that a certain power level of CPU will be necessary to deal with this bare minimum, or else the player will have to avoid large conflicts or die repeatedly due to low fps.
He hes speaking the true. Simple as that. If you want to have decent performance in large fights, + 45 steady frames, yes, you will need an i5 heavily overclock to feed the gpu. Is not a lie. He knows what hes talking about.
This is not an AMD vs. Intel thread. Quit trying to start a trollfest. The Intel processors perform relatively better than their AMD counterparts for this game. As do the Nvidia cards vs AMD cards. This is backed up with empirical evidence. That being said, I tend to agree with what others have already said OP. Buy a good i5 (i7 if you can afford it), get a decent video card, at least 8GB of RAM and you're good to go. Also, make sure you have a strong enough power supply for all of this or else you're dead in the water,
Intel has a better per-core performance and amd gives more cores(modules) for your money. Im not sure how much cores does this game use bc from time to time everyone says something totally different. Intel and Nvidia is better in this game bc its better optimized for it(also physX) but i have a lot of outfit mates who use AMD without any problem or complaints. Also im not sure this is the best forum for these type of hardware advices, you should search for a more hardware focused pc expert forum if you dont have any IRL techie friends(i'd trust them more in your place), so take my advice about all of this with a grain of salt as well.
Will this pc run planetside propperly on high or even ultra ? Intel core i7 4770 K-8G3T 8gb RAM 3TB HDD 128GB SSD Nvidia geforce gtx 760 1.5 gb (upgrade to 2 GB or even 4GB is also an option) Windows 8.1 Hope it will because its also for normal use and 3D programs
You are in the wrong thread on this forum.. not to worry... just take a look here: https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2...ade-advice-threads.170564/page-6#post-2851534 BlackDove is kind of the resident computer set up guru.. just read through that entire thread, your answer is in there. Post a question to BlackDove, he is very good at responding.. he suggested to me that I can get a i3-4360 without a graphics card and it will run planetside.. so you should be fine with your setup. However, you probably won't be playing this weekend, as most systems are crashing, due to the patch from Friday.. Good luck to you.
i have the lowest grade alienwarex51 with an i3 cpu and an nvidia gtx 745 and i get 40-60 in regular battles and 30-45 in large battles and my settings are on medium
Either of these builds should be able to run the game just fine (The first one definitely - Exact same specs as I currently have, except my GPU is a GTX 590. I get a good 40-50 FPS, or 30-40 in larger fights now) http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sierrakomodo/saved/47xRsY If you're more a fan of intel, this should theoretically also run quite well, but I havent tested it in PS2: http://pcpartpicker.com/user/sierrakomodo/saved/7xzhP6 With those parts, you'll be paying ~$1,000 to $1,150
