Nerfing Mines and C4 only Rewards bad players.

    plenty of them where...

In fact during world war 2, Germans and Russians each used magnetic mines designed to stick to a tanks armor before they would detonate. So much so to the point that Germans developed anti-magnetic armor to be placed atop their tanks to thwart the usage of Magnetic mines against them.

Clarify your post because it makes no sense and has no point.
  3. FateJH

You con't throw them like frisbess; they're more like satchel charges you drop (which is like an automatic C4, granted, but I can't choose when to detonate it or have it stick to a wall). If you could throw them like frisbees, I wouldn't have to make my suicide march.
We actually do have an anti-Armor grenade in the game but it doesn't work all that well, and there's more to it that just the normal bad grenade physics. I think that might be why people use AT mines: they actually have some reliability to them and are also specifically designed to be anti-vehicular. Regardless, why should one do less damage than the other? would you mind if Icould throw two AT grenades near your S-AMS and destroy it like that?
  4. Colt556

There's an AT grenade in the game? The more you know.

The way I see it, if you want a reliable way to kill a tank you go HA and grab a rocket. If you want a strategic support role that can HELP kill tanks, you plant down a minefield. Mines aren't there to kill the tank, they're there to help OTHER people kill the tank. They can of course still kill tanks in my idea, the driver gets in too deep or doesn't stop quick enough and boom, he's dead. But it's not reliable in killing vehicles. It's a support weapon. It's the same as ammo boxes, repair guns, or heal guns. It's there to allow OTHER players to kill the tank. You can give them the same thing AA has. Every time a mine detonates on a vehicle you get 5-10 xp. If that vehicle is destroyed you get assist xp. Is it as efficient as just grabbing a rocket and killing them yourself? No. But it's not suppose to be. It's a support role and you get xp for supporting, but ultimately it's a support role. A support weapon. It is not an insta-kill anti-tank grenade.

So no matter how you twist and turn it. The current mechanic is not what one would expect of a mine.

I know we have anti armour grenades but they kind of messed them up. The sticky grenade and the anti armour grenade needs to be the same one. An anti armour grenade that bounces like a rubber ball is completely useless.

How do you use them as real mines when :

    • They can be easily circumvented if used as intended. Anyone with NV/IF can see them. If you can see them, you can avoid them or destroy them.
    • We are limited to a couple of mines. What good is it that we have so few mines? How are two mines a deterrent?

The simple fact is, SOE screwed up when they put mines in this game and instead of doing it like PS1 they tried to change it. This in turn made it so people got use to using mines as an instant deployable IED. If SOE had put mines that cannot be seen and gave engineers more mines and mines were actually effective - as mines - we wouldn't be here discussing this now as the problem that it has become.

    Easy.

-Make them not glow to IR/thermal/whatever. Make them difficult to see, period, much as they are now when not using scopes.
-Allow engineers to place 10-20 mines, but not able to stack them.

Hurray, mines are fixed and we can now have proper minefields.
  8. BalogDerStout

If only that mobile spawn point were... mobile. Then they'd have to find it again.
  9. DrTeeth

That's some lovely theorycrafting, but here in the game we're actually playing, no-one is going to lay a massive minefield. It will take too long. It will use all their resources for no reward. It will *not* stop the enemy at all. If I ran into the first mine with a Mineguard Sunderer do you know what I'd do? Get the twin Mortars on the roof to keep blasting the ground ahead of me and keep going, along with all the HE weapons the rest of the column has.

That is, by definition, not a mine.
  11. MasterChiefette

Tell that to SOE - not me.

If mines are nerfed like discussed, give me my certs back. They are supposed to be used "defensively" to "deny an area". Ok, well..I spent enough certs to unlock carriying two, and they have a small radius, so..I can "deny a 3m square area". That will be very useful on say...Esamir where you can avoid 90% of the roads. Or northern Indar.

If you change how they work, give us more so we can lay an actual minefield. Otherwise, give me my certs back so I can buy a lock on launcher like all the cool kids.

You're wrong, oh so massively wrong, when you say no-one is going to do it. There will -ALWAYS- be players willing to take on the support roles. ALWAYS. Even if mines gave no xp, you'd get people doing it. There will never be a situation where there wont be players to take on support roles. Would you do it? Obviously not. Would your friends? Likely not. But there would be players to do it. Hell, -I'D- do it. Players who can't participate in large battles due to FPS would likely do it since they could contribute to large battles despite not being there. Players who simply enjoy support roles would do it. There will always be players to do this.

Add a "damage to ground vehicles" xp for every time a mine goes off and suddenly that number jumps to include people who like getting easy xp just from having vehicles drive by. So call it theorycrafting all you want, but it's a fact that there are always players willing to take on the dirty jobs that you don't want to do.

It starts by telling other players, other players accept and parrot the idea, eventually the community as a whole wants the idea, sony implements the idea. Me telling sony doesn't do anything because they'd just ignore me, I am but one man.

The kiddies want invulnerable sundies. Much like one of the previous posters, if mines are changed the way some people are suggesting then blockade armor will become the new 'must have' cert option. Mines are already expensive, it takes 2 to drop a vehicle, 150 resources total.

If mines get changed in a fashion where they can't be placed on top of each other, and their damage isn't increased so one mine can kill a vehicle, they will become useless.

If mines require a vehicle to be moving, then blockade armor will become mandatory, and a parked sundy inside a tower has basically won the fight. Since a LA will lose his C4 upon death and it would require a very skilled LA, possibly working with others or so many heavies working in unison to destroy it, in addition to taking on the spawning infantry.

These are the most common responses I see on these forums and these would be the end results.

Sundies are tough as nails right now, no other vehicle can take as much punishment, well except the galaxy but who uses those? It has a few Achilles heels at the moment, mostly mines and C4. C4 just got a rather punishing nerf. If mines are next up... well, I don't really see the point in not driving around with 20-40 sundies in that case.

    Sure:

What magical fairly land do you play this game in where people set up 100m large mine fields that have "mine clearing vehicles" fight through them. Do not impose your pipe dream delusions onto what actually happens with PS2 game mechanics

Welcome to SOE gaming OP. Where every game is run into the ground because SOE insists on pleasing the whining twits. I am going to at least stick out my membership, but, if SOE continues to insist on making every game a horrible shade of bland in an attempt to please everyone (read: whoever is complaining, never the people who actually like the game), then I am sad to say I will NEVER pick up another SOE product again. This has happened with ALL my favorite online games. I stand back while SOE ruins them for the idiot crowd, then the games dies as everyone (idiots included, btw, SOE) leave because its boring.

A bunch of people seem to have a problem with AT mines being used like C-4 instead of "defensive area denial weapons. Your right we should fix this!

Make AT mines a field 100m by 100m containing 100 mines that each have the ability to kill any vehicle that rolls over it. The current carrying limits for these fields will be sufficient at a 1:1 ratio.

No? Then shut up about "real world mines"
  19. Urban Cohort

You need to become more than a man...you need to be an idea...

    You need to be...Batman.

Also, mines are useful as an area denial weapon, so you can funnel or redirect enemies towards an approach that favors you more...or, I guess, stop them cold while they pull up max mineguarded vehicles to clear the way. (Well, not currently, but give engies the ability to lay mine fields and that's what would be).

    I'd totally set up a minefield, too. I'd make it in the shape of a heart...or a cat face...or a *****.

far from it. There are mine laying vehicles that literally fling anti-tank mines like frisbbees. so yeah there ya go. magnetically influenced fuse. Just like the current in game anti tank mine.

Just admit that you want the game your way.
  21. PapaMojo

Ok, I'm sold.....you can make the AT mines detonate only if they are driven over

    IF

I can have a vehicle that can lay out 800 AT mines being pulled by a sundy. See, I'm reasonable.
