Need a new laptop for PS2

I have played PS2 for a while on my school tablet. I need help with buying a cheap laptop (anywhere below $700) to play PS2 on Medium/High setting at 70%/3000m render and 40-60 fps. Any help will be appreciated.
My current tablet is an Acer Iconia W701, and here are the spec if you need:
    Win 8
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM) i3-3227U CPU @ 1.90Hz
    RAM: 4.00 GB
    System: 64-bit
Graphic Card: Intel(R) HD Graphics 4000
    75 GB HDD
Im currently running PS2 at lowest setting, 56%/600m rendering.

Just as a reference point, I purchased a custom Laptop (PC Specialist brand), the Optimus VI for £850 (Probably USD $1700?), and it runs PS2 on a mish mash of High settings @ 1080p and achieve 30-40 FPS during apocalyptic battles, and 60+ FPS when it's light fights or roaming.

Although, I've only spent about 20 minutes in-game on it so far, so there's more tweaking to do.

Basically, I can't imagine what to expect with your budget, but I genuinely wish you the best in your future purchase and hope you get what you want. All I can say is aim for minimum 8GB RAM, GTX700-900M series (If NVidia) and best CPU possible, like Intel I5/I7 2.4Ghz or much higher, and definitely an SSD, because load times own (and costs less power). If that's possible with up to $700 then bask in the glory of victory. (I think American market is usually cheaper then UK any way...)

    For the record, my Laptop spec: Intel I7 4720HQ (2.6-3.5Ghz), GTX 960M, 8GB 1600Mhz DDR3, 100% SSD Platform (M.2 & 2.5").

The word Laptop makes me cringe.
    Desktop master race.

    Flame on!

I spent I think around $2000 on my laptop it's an i7-4720Q, with 16 GB of RAM, 500 Gig SSD, 3200x1800 screen, Intel HD Graphics 4600 and an NVIDIA GeForce GT 750M graphics card and Planetside 2 doesn't even load. According to Daybreak customer support my computer is not compatible because of the two graphics cards. Awesome! :)

Perhaps should you get a desktop. You can change hardware parts of deskstops when it's getting too old. You'll have to buy a full new laptop when it'll be a bit old.
Customized desktops are cheaper than laptops. You'll get higher performances for your budget.

If you're not wanting to run huge resolutions, just decent quaility settings, then almost any i5 CPU (the Intel Pentium G3258 is a very good gaming budget option, but I don't know that you'll get that without building your own desktop) should be more than enough for PS2, 8GB of RAM (you don't really need any more for PS2 - if it happens to have 16GB then fair enough) and a GPU at least as good as something like a 560ti (which is basically almost anything new these days).

If you're wanting higher resolutions then the above should still be fine, but you're going to need a good GPU.

You'd get much more performance for your money going with a desktop, but I guess that may not be an option.

Agree, may not play in school, but you'll never regret buying a desktop.

EDIT: USD2000 for that laptop?? that's pretty cheap, im from Chile and here those laptops cost from USD 2500 up to infinity.

this. if a component dies on you, you can remove and order a replacement part and install it yourself if you know how saving you some money. it's worth the chance of incompatibilities that laptops don't suffer with hardware configurations.

on the plus side when you upgrade your GPU to run new games/higher settings you can keep the older one as a temporary backup to run older games in the meantime if there is an issue down the road with the new card and you need to call in the warranty.

I have a MSI GE70. Bought it for about 1400$ 2 years ago.
Runs PS2 at 60+ fps and doesent overheat.

    Its got:
    i7-4700MQ 3.4GHz CPU
    Nvidia GTX765M 2GB GPU
    8GB RAM
    120GB SSD

If you want a laptop, im not sure how you would get good fps for PS2 with a 700$ budget.

Also, the game is pretty CPU heavy.
PS2 probably wont like anything less than a 3GHz CPU.

Just helping out, that's 955/956 USD. That is if you said 850E.

    850 £ = 1.305,58 $ = 1.162,79 €

Sorry to bump the thread with somewhat off-topicness, but that's bullcrap, lol. I'm not calling you out, I'm really calling DBG out, because my device manager confirms I have a HD4600 and the GTX960M simultaneously, and NVidia Optimus allows me to force which GPU is utilised for the executable (that's there in case the laptop can't decide properly for itself what is more suitable, which can apparently happen).

I dunno what to recommend, apart from maybe system imaging just as a backup, copying the PS2 game directory (at least if it's on Steam) and the according appmanifest ACF file (to save re-downloading the whole game), plough a fresh OS installation on and copy the PS2 directory back to the drive from external storage. With fresh GPU drivers of course in the mix.

Because as far as I'm concerned, your Laptop should be compatible, and I'd be p*ssed if it wasn't with that spec, which is very nice!

Aye, sorry about that, I'm living abroad atm and I'm using the local conversion rate inadvertently, indeed it's significantly less dollars then what I originally stated ($1306 USD apparently, as per Breeje, thanks!)

Laptop in budget is going to be tricky as the manufacturer will define the spec and generally, as the price goes up, so do all the specs (so you're not likely to get Nvidia graphics with a low spec CPU) - unless you can find one that's configurable or upgradeable.

Planetside 2 is more CPU bound than graphics - but saying that, i'm not convinced that a CPU based graphics solution (Intel Iris for example) could hack it. So you need to look for one with a graphics card.

    So you're looking for:
    - Something with additional graphics card
    - 4GB Minimum (8GB Better) - must have 64 bit O/S
    - SSD ideally - loading time from disk is awful, especially a slow-spinning laptop disk, doesn't need to be large unless you've got tons of other stuff to put on it
    - Fastest CPU you can get with the above

    Good luck....

Yeah, they're flat wrong and laughably ignorant. Beginning at least as early as the 580m, Nvidia mobile GPUs utilizing Optimus technology will have both the integrated and Nvidia GPUs. It's to save battery power by using the integrated graphics when the higher performance isn't necessary. I run PS2 perfectly fine on a 770m/4600HD system.

Make sure you're running the 64-bit executable then use the Nvidia driver to force using the 750m with that program, if you haven't already.

Latest stats list the Euro as 1.12 USD.

My bad I did not know he was using Pound.
