NC Max Riot Shield

    Can you be shot throught the front slot, if you can it is just another downside to the shield

    The worst part of the shield is that it's clearly designed with the scat cannon in mind (even if it sucks with that too). Which means it's utterly worthless with every other max weapon. Meanwhile VS and TR will have abilities that synergize with every possible weapon SOE could invent.

    Can you fire Sparrows then switch to your shield while guiding the rockets?

    If you haven't tried it on test or can't even explain it here then please just stop thinking yourself.

    When the other factions MAX suits are gaining an ability to increase the power of every one of their MAX suits loadouts, and to be useful in group or smaller engagements, don't dismiss the complaints of people wanting to know what this "absolutely unique tactical option" is.

    If anyone thinks sacrificing one arm's firepower for the shield would be OP, then I think sacrificing movement or some defense for extra firepower in extra rate of fire, reload time, and velocity is OP. Basically for this shield to be a Shield Wall as some people think it is going to be I think it would have to be OP. Because soaking up 20-30 TR MAX/LMG rounds like it does currently is pretty damn pathetic.

    You cannot be shot through the front slot as of my testing.

    Also the larger shield covers the feet.

    Still the best thing about it is after the Shield is gone hits don't seem to register against the MAX for some time, as he becomes sort of invincible.

    28 bullet to destroy shield max level which is horrible
    2-3 deci to destroy it
    I took damage when using the shield from the front

    Overall the shield needs a major tuning a bigger shield to actually protect infantry from the back and much stronger. For 2300 cert it not even worth touching the shield :mad:.

    You can activate the Shield after firing sparrows but the shield activation is about the same time as the sparrows travel time. I'm unsure of when the Shield is actually going to be absorbing damage in its animation currently though so would have to test that.

    IMO I feel that an engineers repair gun should allow the shield to recharge/repair. One engi with a maxed our repair tool should be able to keep up with the damage from one Heavy with a standard rocket launcher

    Edit: actually I take this back. the riot shield should behave exactly like the MANA shield, absorbs small arms fire but susceptible to rockets and explosives. If you think that's OP it's not, remember unlike the MANA it can't shoot back. So pretty much if you get 4 maxes together you have a destructible moving wall. So in essence the enemy would have to respond to this like a Vanguard that again doesn't shoot back. And keep in mind that to do this you need teamwork to get 4 guys together, and use 400 recourses combined compared to the Vanguards 250 AND moves slower. Not OP at all but still more effective than what it is at the moment. But I still feel that Engis should be able to repair the shield just not as efficiently as I stated above.

    After testing it myself, I don't think NC have anything to complain about with the shield in its current form. Balanced? Maybe, I'm not entirely sure. You sacrifice all offensive ability when using it, it has an activation and deactivation timer, and you can only walk with it active.



    Being able to reload with the shield up would be overkill.

    Now that's a shield! Even protects against C4 and tank rounds.

    In my opinion it's far too good against AV weapons.

    I'd trade better small arms resistance for a reduction in AV resist.

    Changes to the shield make it look a lot nicer now, covers the max properly to protect from front attacks so nice changes there. Recharge rate and the damage it can take seem to need another pass as it seems to take a lot of hits and then only a short recharge, but at least it can't fire while using it so there is that.

    So what purpose does it serve? It's too slow and obvious to be used as a distance closer. Its activation and deactivation is too long to be used reflexively. It's not useful for retreating. It has zero use offensively.

    • Can take an entire heat-bar from an AI mana turret
    • Can take 74 rounds from the Orion
    • Can take 6 S-1 rounds
    • 5 rounds from the decimator
    • 5 AV turret rounds
    • A C4 round on the ground in front of a Max will not break the shield
    • 4 magazines from a Pulsar C
    • 60 rounds from the Lasher - The Lasher has the best time to break of any of the weapons we've tried so far
    • 32 rounds from the Basilisk
    • Prox mines do very little damage and may detonate without doing any damage to the shield
    • If you attach a sticky grenade or C4 to the front MAX and then the max puts his shield up it will hit the shield. C4 will still damage the MAX from behind
    • NARS will start even if the shield is taking damage, allowing a max protected by an Aegis to recharge under fire
    That's rank 1 by the way.

    current shield feels good but...

    1. it need to activate/deactivate faster
    2. maxes should be able to reload they weapons while shield is up

    *Points back to stats* this thing can survive entire clips from the enemy, just wait till they reload! Besides, Nanite repair works while shield is up so you can theoretically get back to max health WHILE IN COMBAT!

    Yea theoretically, if you're facing the most incompetent players in PS2 who also forget how to move their own characters at the sight of your pretty blue shield. One bullet will stop the repair, not hard.

    "nanite repair" is viable option ONLY when max is alone in the base and base is attacked 1-3 random enemys who keep "zerging in one by one othevise its wayy too slow to repair you and 1 hit from anything and repair is in halt for next what 10-15 sec ?+ to cert it full is costly ( about 2200 cert points ,wich is clearly too expensive to many players anyway) so pls forget the "theory" and wake up in the reality.

    Huh... Are you blind? The shield didn't stop any damage against the missed C4.

    Why would you let them empty an entire clip when you could simply kill them before they even have time to react? That argument make absolutly no sense.

    Seriously, a AI NC MAX need protection when :
    -He is reloading.
    -When the target is too far away from his scatters.

    He has to move forward or retreat. The shield doesn't help in the first nor the second point since you are stuck in walking speed and Charge is several time better as a close gap or a emergency button.

    Burster max have no need of a shield that stop you from blasting the sky. AV MAX with sparrow will be staying at range anyway. So, what's the point of the Riot shield when we already have something better for the exact same task?
