Nano Armor Cloaking - Headshot Mechanic?

    Hey guys,

Couldn't find it through the search so im opening a new thread.
Do headshots bypass the extra resistance like it works for Nanoweave Armor?
Do both things stack(Additional or multiplicative?) ?
  2. Plague Rat

The resistance of NAC is indeed applied to your head, therefore up to a certain distance you can avoid a OHK but only while cloaked, making it potentially useful for counter-sniping provided you can have your cloak up the moment you're shot. This will generally mean a target from long range aiming for you while you're uncloaked and firing after you've cloaked once more. Not wonderfully practical, but it does happen from time to time.

Generally speaking resistance types DO NOT STACK, and only the higher resistance value is applied. Nanoweave will (supposedly) not stack with a heavy's resist shield, they will get the flat 45% resistance. However, in Wrel's video on the PU02 balance changes he says they do in the case of NAC, stacking multiplicatively for a potential max 48% damage reduction to body shots. Whether this is intentional or not is anyone's guess.

Ive killed guys with NAC at distance 270-300 meters with paralax while they were cloaked [and made error to not move after cloak].
Dont know how it apply. Maybe it only gave real aid on 5 meters close to render distance.

Honestly - I dont know if this apply for headshots.

Keep in mind - that there is again the odl bug that OHK sometimes fail. No matter range - once, two per day I hear "dang" but no OHK.

It could be that NAC has a damage cap similar to resist shield, at which shots do full damage and ignore the resistance.

How did you know he had NAC

also it maybe wasn't max level?

The OHK is you miss-aiming. Never had that issue.

    nope

Thanks for the in-depth response. Appreciate it :)

For clarification. My Intention was not about countersniping, but for engaging capture points. Since I'll usually peek corners, snipe out engies at their turrets or the green wizard in the backline and activate my cloak while rechambering and retreating, i usually get shot while my cloak is active. In theory NAC should provide me with a bit more staying power, while sacrificing my ability to flank reliably. (which is not that much of a deal, since most capture points are protected by two or three choke points anyways... Thus rendering flanking somewhat impossible)

1.Because of angry tell from the guy.

    2. I know when I miss, cause I miss like everybody, but I know when I hit 100%, especially when there is a headshot "ding". Stop trolling or l2read please.
  8. Benevon

The guy was asking legitimate questions. No need to immediately call him a troll.

For the "headshot ding" but no OHK, I'd attribute that to all the F'ed up things this game has been doing. I have been having very inconsistent lag spikes since PU02, sometimes I hack a turret with somebody in it and they plop in front of me for a face full of lead...sometimes they don't appear for me and kill me. Last night I saw an NC coming up a ramp, I opened fire without any hit markers showing (but no way I was missing him). It wasn't until after he went running through a wall that I got the kill credit.

You realize that my answer was simple rewrite of a previous post with other words? ;)

Ive noticed couple of not kiling OHK with paralax a day after PU2, I cant simply say that the problem was nonexisting before because of old nanowave 5.

Do we have any confirmation from the devs that NAC is supposed to guard the head?
  10. Nocturn0l

I was expecting an explanation to your statement, your source of knowledge. Otherwise your statement is nothing more than a single opinion that may or may not be correct. If you can't understand the irony in my post that's pointing to this failure, i wouldn't call out people dumb ;)
  11. Jawarisin

I would give you a direct link, but I dont think you deserve it, simply because your arguing with me trying to get a big head.
    google "nano armor cloaking"
    go to patch note
read both, notice where it doesn't say it stops being applied to headshot for that.
Notice how the same process in the case of resist shield, does reduce headshot dmg.
Notice how it's most likely using the same function/mechanic.
Be enlightened by my brilliance, and feel ashamed you didn't bother to search before you talked back.

PS: feel free to correct my grammar if it makes you feel better.
  12. Nocturn0l

Ok, to maybe extend your knowledge a bit. I didn't say resist shield would not reduce headshot damage, it does. But fact of the matter is, and this was tested, however is unstated in any description, weapons that deal more than 400 damage ignore the resistance that resist shield gives and instead deal full damage, this means a 200 damage weapon getting a headshot is not reduced. This is the reason why e.g. you can die to a single sniper rifle HS with your resist shield activated while at full health or why you could be killed by 3 commissioner shots.
And to show you that is not just my imagination: https://forums.station.sony.com/ps2...tly-resist-shield-has-a-breakpoint-now.67787/
Now since we agree on the assumption that both NAC and resist shield would most likely use the same mechanic, this would be the explanation to people dying to sniper rifle HSs with NAC activated.
Now since you failed to enlighten me, i'm hopeful to have shown you how it could done.

Since arguing with you seems to be proven fruitless, go try it out. Come back with the results and a video of them.

    Have fun.
  14. Plague Rat

Hey guys, since this is still going, I dug out my "this is not for gaming" laptop and tried to get some video

I couldn't get a solid block of unedited footage on Live due to outside interference (not to mention I ran out of resources) so I eventually just flipped the table and did it on the PTS, but the results are identical. NAC did protect the other character from the OHK at 80-ish meters, with a noticeable margin with an SAS-R and just barely with a Longshot. Like just barely, if they were another step closer it would have been a kill.

This was with maxed out NAC, that would be providing 35% damage resistance, I imagine the shots would kill at significantly farther distance without the final rank.

For those that don't want to watch:
Shots 1-4 with SAS-R. Shot 5 with Longshot.
1st Shot - NAC on, survived
2nd Shot - NAC on, missed (I suck)
3rd Shot - NAC on, survived
4th Shot - NAC off, OHK
5th Shot - Longshot, NAC on, survived (just barely)
