Becoming the mindless zerg does not make you play better.

Except that the flying issue is actually nothing like that whatsoever. New players will get wrecked because they are unlikely to ever be as good as a lot of the veteran pilots. Those veterans have been playing this game in the air from release and have thousands of hours of air time. Are you honestly suggesting that a new pilot will stand a snowball in hell's chance against that? Because right now the life expectancy of a new pilot is so short that frequently they'll never even see the ESF that kills them, especially on a server like Cobalt.

How can you learn when you're dead in seconds the moment you're in range of an enemy ESF?

Any veteran pilot that suggests that new pilots just need to practice more (aka "learn to fly") is delusional.

    It does the complete opposite.

I have started to play less on Connery (All 3 factions and fought pretty much everyone, including FCRW engagements when I play NC/TR) and more on Waterson and Mattherson lately. Since I play VS on waterson, I only ever get to fight the TR and NC. I did have one incident when some high BR Zaps member got mad because he stepped in front of me when I was already firing at an enemy. He tk'd me even after my friend revived him and he started smack talking so I just shot him in the face and threatened him back and he left it alone. The only thing about "elite" people is they take stuff way too seriously, but I don't suck and am more than willing to exchange blows.

As for Dasnfall, I've never seen a large organized unit of those guys, though when I do come across them, they seem to die normally, just better than the average players you encounter. The same goes with AC, they're good players but that doesn't make them gods. Not to diminish their reputation or anything, but they aren't that hard and the majority of the time I see them just doing defense and capitalize on their knowledge of base layouts etc. I can kill them with my poorly certed, low BR TR character, so I think it only takes lots of attention and caution when engaging. I usually play solo or with no more than 2 others in my squad so it's not like we zerg them. The only thing is I never see them attack anything, which in itself is pretty lame. Farming and being good at farming is one thing but if you can't maintain your stats when attacking, if you hold them so dearly as many, but not all elite players do...then those stats are artificial. I suppose we all enjoy different things and I just like being outnumbered and trying to PTFO while doing so, even attacking their over pop.

I primarily play VS and I'm used to their weapons, so I tend to engage them more cautiously, sort of like not engaging a saw user at 50m with your carbine, don't set yourself up for failure.

No, no I have nothing constructive to say, but these threads always make me laugh.

DA works together and they do so very well. They know each others play styles very well. They know what works against the mindless zerg and against some other coordinated outfits.

There is a world of difference between coordinated outfits and the average FPS gang of individuals.

Not that I have intimate information on DA (I don't to be sure), but I can virtually guarantee many, if not all of these folks have much better gaming systems and latency than the average player.

If even one person in your squad plays on a potato, you'll be gimped from the start.

Such is life in an online FPS with client side hit detection.
  5. Posse

I wish the latency part was true :(

    Posse!?

What!? Are you the red-headed-step-child of Das Anfall!?!?!

    I'll remember that in game...;)

I kinda see what the OP is saying I think. For myself it's fun to play against skilled players. Killing someone you know to be good is rewarding. And you can learn from getting killed by good players.

On the other hand I know I've been repeatedly farmed by a good player or squad and that gets frustrating and not fun. I move on to another fight usually when that happens.

I am sure that 80% of new pilots' deaths are ground AA and trees combined. Dont bs me plx

Very true about their gaming PCs. When I have time in the mornings I will watch streams an check out system specs etc. It amazes me how much some people pay to play video games o_O

It could be all in my head but I also think people with great systems act similarly to those with crappy ones, meaning the damage builds up really quickly and by the time you get the info on your comp, it feels almost like being insta gibbed. Could just be my crappy comp though :p
  10. Posse

    wat

The netcode problems are the same for everyone, but framerate is a very important factor in your performance. If I had a PC that could only get 20 to 30 fps in most fights my KDR would probably be half of what it is right now.

My poor AMD cpu/gpu $8 mouse and free keyboard are just getting out classed :( Guess it isn't that bad though, dasnfall says I have a 4 K/D w/o revives and almost a 6 for infantry only domain (I guess with out deaths to vehicles?) 20k+ kills. I just still feel like I'm moving in slow motion against certain people or groups of people and after the PU's my FPS are pretty decent, but can clearly see a difference in the movement speed and feel it in their TTK when they shoot at me (even if I don't get any headshot notifications). I suppose there is a difference between what I see, as in my FPS and the other data actually being updated by my client.
  12. AngryPlayer

I don't mind getting killed by DA. But... AC. Nope, I've seen too many suspicious actions on their part.
  13. Ronin Oni

No lie... I kinda hate playing my Matherson NC because the faction just never seems to be doing good.

And yeah, I've fought against DA..... not that fun lol

If you dare kill one in an ESF the rest will HUNT YOU DOWN. If I see I killed a DA I immediately make a break for WG because I'll have 6 bogies on my six in as many seconds.
  14. BaronVonVirtu

So here's the deal. Given the changes in NUC since they realized that their massive concentration of autism wasn't actually going to be of much benefit since PS2 MLG isn't actually a thing that exists in reality, because of that DA has probably taken that crown.

They are not invulnerable, but they do have a significantly higher amount of playtime than your average bear. They know how to use concentration of numbers to counter a general useless zerg. A player does not counter those types of holds, it requires an equal amount of coordination to counter. Though, the best way to counter their presence in a fight is to deny them the opportunity to take advantage of it. Force them into a meatgrinder if they want an advantageous position.

Regardless, the unfortunate reality is that outfits of this type are a symptom of a bigger problem in a video game. This was brought up in a thread a week or two ago about ratios of veterans to newbies in outfits. The seepage of well-skilled players into a few select containers lowers the average skill of the general population. This applies especially to those who lead squads and platoons, but general squad members as well. Can you imagine the new player experience for most folks starting this game?
  15. Corporate Thug

They don't seem to hack or anything that I've noticed. I've been killed by a few and killed a few myself, and being new to the server I check out player/outfit stats occasionally when I first encounter them and nothing seemed fishy. Anything is possible, though what you are saying is highly unlikely.

You could probably maintain about 2-3 KDR with an FPS performance if 15-30, but your ability to aim would largely be secondary to your positioning, and forget winning head on fights against someone with smoother performance and any degree of skill.

A lot of people don't realize, even people who suffer from poor FPS, that up to a certain point, the FPS value itself isn't the biggest issue, it`s the change in FPS that matters.

If your FPS jumps from 80 to 90, that's a 12.5% difference in FPS. It's sizeable but your FPS is smooth enough you probably won't notice very much.

If your FPS jumps from 10 to 20 that's a 100% difference in FPS, from 20 to 30, that's still a 50% difference in FPS. That difference is huge, especially if you're leading a target at mid-range, or in a shoot-out against someone doing A-D-A-D.

When you have a steady 30-35 FPS, PS2 is still very playable. A constant 30 FPS is something you can compensate for. When your FPS jumps from between 15-30 in a fight, then targeting becomes awful. Not only are your targets going to stutter, but they're going to stutter randomly - so leading that target becomes part guess-work.

This is one of the often unmentioned reasons why low FPS affects your gun-play so dramatically, because you become much more susceptible to changes in FPS.

oh my this got popular when I finally went to bed. Prepare for replies gentlemen

I do my best to avoid those when I could, but most of my deaths to them are when me and my buddies already set up a kill zone and they can still wreck our **** face to face (though I will admit most of them drive tanks rather than get their boots on the ground) Also I like your videos and very much enjoy fighting BWC as a whole

I actually play a combat engineer role when I'm not running solo, loads of fun indeed and not getting my face turned to swiss cheese in order to get certs does help a lot. I only wish more of the mindless NC zerg knew how to use their LMGs so I wouldn't have to switch out

I'd love to, but it's either getting farmed by 48+ VS or being a farmer against 12-ish TR. They're not doing so good at all right now and I can imagine they're having a rougher time than I am

This might be my problem actually, trying to save up for some upgrades on my rig but I doubt I'll be getting em ay time soon

Also I feel like I should add to my general insomnia/rum fueled ramblings that I don't think DA should leave the game just for the sake of those that can't shoot back at them, I just prefer knowing where not to go if I'd rather punch in my own weight classification. Or maybe an upgrade to my rig as Posse pointed out so I can hold my own without the game being a slide show
  20. Epic High Five

DA fights are great except they've got a giant VS zerg tail that drops on any roughly even fight I find them at within minutes and ruins everything. It's not like being primarily Orion HAs is unique to their outfit, if my experiences searching for ammo or heals on my VS are anything to go by.

I mean shotgun LAs should be mauled to death by ferrets (it sounds really unpleasant if you think about it) but that's not DA specific.

And anyway, this is PS2, the world's best Fair Fight Avoidance Simulator. If you're going up against someone who's way better than you, just hit them with a conc grenade+rocket 1-2 punch.
