So after watching some youtube vids and poking around the forums a bit I decided to give PS2 a shot. I love teamplay, and character progression is always a great incentive to keep playing. After about an 8 hour play session (yay vacation), here are my thoughts as a new player to this game: 1. Apparently the in game voice doesnt work with Realtek soundcards, so Ive been very lonely (unable to hear or send voice transmissions to other players ) 2. My character feels useless in battles, he has no weapons and no certs, which makes it very difficult to get kills, which then makes it harder to earn certs to get the weapons and the certs that I need to get the kills that I need for more certs that give me..... yea you see where Im going with this. 3. I still have no freakin clue what generators due or what some of the symbols on the map are. On the bright side the game looks amazing, and the organized outfit videos ive seen on youtube look like an absolute blast. I feel like if I could get somehow more involved in the social aspect of this game I would probably dump some money into it and play it pretty seriously for a while. If I cant get into an outfit in the next few days though Im probably gonna drop this game, its boring to play by yourself, especially since all of the classes/vehicles/ships I have feel super underpowered without certs and upgrades.
I would suggest uninstall it and wait at least 2 patches, if it will be still alive (which I doubt) it may be at playable state. Or if you come to play air simulator then you can enjoy it right now, but you need to pay money.
Being useless to start with is to be expected. That said the starting weapons are not useless and can get the job done. Go medic or engineer and follow people around if you can't get XP via kills. I solo all the time and do just fine (IMO). If you feel you have to be in an outfit to enjoy the game then check the recruitment forum.
Currently on the Millie EU server since it seems to have good population numbers, but I have very little invested in my character so if I could find a cool group to play wit I would server jump in a heartbeat.
hey check this link out... http://forums.station.sony.com/ps2/...lso-question-answer-thread.68798/#post-858786 For VS Orion HA is a great weapon but you HAVE TO AIM! do not hip fire it burst fire while aiming down the sight. Honestly as a new player to build up some certs i suggest playing Medic and healing/rezzing and getting into combat occasionally or Engie repairing/ammo and getting into combat occasionally.
certs won't make you noticably stronger with the exception of a few vehicles mods. Not being able to get kills is just not knowing how to play yet, just a bit of practice needed.
We all start out at the buttom, even if you purchase weapons in the store. Most are still pretty bad without certs. As for 3, There are 4 Different generators. 1 is only used at some outposts and Amp Stations, they have a "Tank" symbol on them. These when taken down allow vehicles to enter the courtyard. The other 2 with a "Shield" Icon, normally located outside of the main structure are for entry into the main base itself. These in the case of an Amp Station need to be taken out before you can cap the node. The other Shield Icon Generator normally near the cap point, is for the SCU or the Spawn Control Unit. This allows infantry of the defending faction to spawn inside the facilities spawn room. The last Generator is the SCU which is and isn't a generator, though I consider it one as it uses the same function to over load it. Refer to my description above as to what the SCU does. Also, in the case of a Bio Lab. They only have 1 Generator which protects the vehicle spawn below and the SCU.
Everything with time. I know its confusing, and difficult at times when your new to a game but heck, most good games are. I figure that if you can feel competent at a game, and understand it within your first few play sessions, then the game is FAR to easy and FAR to simplistic. The best thing that you can do is try to hook up with a squad/platoon that has members that will walk you through things. I know that any time there is a new player in my squad, I tell him to ask any questions he has, and im genuine about wanting to answer them. I also roll around with that player and try to instruct them on where to go, what things mean, and how to take bases. I do sympathize with the certs though. I have always hated the idea of unlocks, and progressions, but thats the way of the new gaming generation. children need to feel some sort of fiat accomplishment and progressions are really the only way to do it. The result is that every new player is boned until he has played enough to compete. its just a horrible system but you cant change it and its the same everywhere you go, so you cant really hold any one game to the fire.
1. Not sure on that, might be something in options but in-game voice is poor, you want an outfit that uses Vent/TS 2. It might feel that way but your standard guns are just as good as ones you can buy and take no more hits to kill someone, first day is always rough it'll get easier. 3. If its your first day your not really meant to yet, takes a few to get them all down as to what its all for. Ignore the silly comments about uninstalling and just keep going, you'll be fine and like anything it gets easier and better with time.
Ignore whiny trolls like rGlory 2. The defaults are actually great weapons, as time goes on you can try the other weapons and see what fits you better (they are sidegrades, not upgrades). That means you tradeoff some stats for a bit more other stats in order to make it fit your playstyle better. 3. The generators pretty much control shields. Different places have different generators for different shields. Some gens take away the outer defense shields so vehicles can move in, others take away the inner shields, so you can take the " A " point in order to take control of the facility. Once you take down all the gens, you can overload the SCU. The SCU is the spawn device (it has the yellow shields over it). If you take out the SCU, enemy can't spawn at that base anymore.
Good for you that you chose Miller. You'll probably have a better PS2 experience than most. Regarding your audio issues, play with the master send and receive volume levels until you get it right. Don't turn receive too high, anything 65+ will cause distortion so band you can't understand anybody. Try setting your master game volume at like 30 and VOIP send and receive at 50. You don't NEED to be in an outfit to have fun. Most outfits just run around capping empty bases which is boring as ****. But Miller has more players than the other servers, so that might not be the case there. However you can always join a pickup squad or platoon, some suck and some are pretty good actually. Just find a location you want to fight at, hot deploy there and once there hit the insert key and you'll auto-join whatever available group is there. Sometimes it's an outfit's public squad that you join which is a great way to see what they are like.
