I didnt know about VR...believe it or not. Or rather, I didnt know that VR you could try out every attachment/gun variation there is! This feature is amazing, and if any new players see this, start a character in each faction and go to VR. Test out each combination and get a feel. For example, i really want to play infiltrator, but i wasnt sure HOW i wanted to play one, or what faction. As i was transferring from a NC infiltrator on emerald to connery losing all my progress. So finally realizing the potential of VR i went on to test mainly infiltrator (but also heavy assault and maxes) This is what i found for me. Favorite style weapons ive found across all infiltrators. BOLT ACTION SNIPERS SAS-R/TSAR-42/gHOST: The things that these have in commone. 1.1 second reloads. They max at only 4x magnification scopes. 5 rounds in the chamger. typically 1HKO on headshots...and biggest...NO SCOPE SWAY. Some people may not like being limited to closer ranged engagements because of the scope limitation but i find i love it. super long range i find im not really engaging in the fight and just potting shots. So for snipers these are my go to. SEMI AUTO SNIPERS: VA39 Spectre+Phantom VA23/99SV+KSR35/Gauss SPR/Impetus: Thats right 2 for each faction, they are basically mirrors of eachother save for one maxes at 4x scope and the other starts at 6x scope...other then that they are the same...damn...things... virtually anyways REALIZATION: i thought i loved scout rifles, but after trying the semi auto snipers...i realized, they are almost strictly superior. superior damage, more effect range, and here is a big thing for me. When using a SCOUT rifle, semi auto, i can two shot one in the head and one to the chest, but if i hit a arm/leg its a 3 shot even with one headshot. not so with semi auto snipers, where i can hit on to the head and one to the leg and finish them That said if i were to play a scout rifle again id probably stick with a vandal because its just unique enough to warrant use over a semi auto sniper. I have more opinions on sidearms, but they are not class specific. With this in mind i had to look at base numbers to really decide wich faction id want to play given my preferred weapons. that is to say, 1.1 second reload BAR's and 4x max magnification semi auto snipers. 1.1s reload BAR'S...ZERO difference, 100% THE SAME. according to stats. this is kinda nice, i can choose a faction based on server performance/community/aesthetics with these guns semi auto snipers...A DIFFERENCE...vanu have a harsher damage dropoff as the range increases...while i say i like playing closer ranges, i dont consider 200 to be super long range. the damage dropoff isnt super high but im sure it gets worse and on top of that im scared of "damage thresholds" where shots to kill go up higher for Vanu...so im scratching vanu off my list for now "stares at TR/NC. now lets delv into the more opionated parts. attachments-between the two factions, TR wins, my fav scope is the 2x red dot site, i dont like the equivalent yellow dot or "NEWCON" on nc. feel like the soft hue on it spreads further leading to more innacuracy. So TR wins there. I also like there 4x scope for the ksr35 more as well with the razor thin red cross. as far as style...NC USED to win...but as my tastes have changed since i first launched this game a while back...im finding the slightly more futuristic and sleekness of TR more appealing. brothers...ill be honest, i pretty much wrote this as i researched it, and to many it may be pointless drivel, but...i think im a TR boy now. hmmm Infiltrator Absinthecize reporting for TR domination on Connery /salute. But seriously, anyone, check VR first, it will let you realize the playstyle you enjoy more. sidenote: i was pushed further into TR with there MAX AI weaponry and hte fact i already bought bursters long time ago. and i enjoy the stablity of the TR HA LMG's a bit more as well. plus being able to abuse the slight arc on the AV gun on max...yup, TR fanboy here on out!
Welcome to the republic There is no scope sway on the sniper rifles with 4x sights; the TSAR-42 and KSR-35. This was implemented not too long ago and makes them killer in medium range engagements, but the limited scope magnification along with their lower muzzle velocity limits their long-range effectiveness. I'd also advise against dismissing the scout rifles. I did the same for a long time, then got the HSR-1 and SOAS-20, and what they lack in firepower they make up for in mid (and sometimes even close) range versatility. Their recoil is a little less extreme, and the higher rate of fire means it's easier to land follow-up shots. They require good positioning and ambush tactics to use well though. Mustarde did a cracking video on scout rifles just recently. I think he posted it here in the infiltrator section
