Mouse on PS4 and XBox and Cross Platform

This is why consoles should ACTIVELY PREVENT mkb use. Not support it. If I was a game developer I would go the extra mile to disable or inhibit MKB use (like force analog stick emulation from mouse input) in MP FPS games, or they're just asking for their players to get griefed by these no-lifes

Otherwise there's going to be some shi77er players who buy MKB for console just to get an advantage over players with slower aim.

And no, they STILL shouldn't add cross-platform for 2 reasons
    1) Any shi77er who'd game on MKB on console is apt to be a crappy player or else they'd play on PC, and they're just seeking advantage, so playing with skilled PC players would be even worse
    and
    2) There won't be many of them, yet having the full PC population in the same servers would be way too much.

OR maybe they can add x-platform, but still seperate servers by control input... so you'd have gamepad servers where the only input allowed is a controller, and MKB servers which allow MKB (and also allow gamepad should you want to use one to fly or something)

point is, there is not a single gamepad FPS player in the world that can stand up to a good MKB player, and so forcing gamepad players to play in the same games as MKB users is just about one of the WORST design decisions any developer could ever make.

If that's a problem then game developers would need to prevent players from connecting to the same servers depending on input device.

If they add native m/kb support, that would work. But with regard to that specific peripheral that I was referencing, if the game doesn't detect it and stop it from working, it could be used it in the gamepad server.

If I were a developer I'd either create special MKB servers (or have MKB users connect to PC servers) OR I'd actively inhibit MKB usage (have mouse input go through analog stick emulation so it's even worse than using gamepad)

There is a Mouse since Play Station(1).
  6. CassCE

It will be on one of the d-pad directional buttons.

Pretty sure you hold Triangle. That is how you use your tool on other classes. either that or one of the D-pad buttons, since I know those bring up your Medkits.

    From a developer's standpoint:

Cross platform servers are a non-trivial undertaking. Especially when you start throwing in arbitrary boundaries like "This is a keyboard only server" or "This is a controller only server". That doesn't mean it can't be done, but given the history of this game, do you honestly think that spending that much time and money on programming would be feasible when all you'd really be gaining is a "Hey, cross platform servers... Cool." from your players, most of which wouldn't be paying a cent for the extra work.

I don't know how many of you have ever worked with low level device code, but assuming you haven't, I can tell you that it's not always as simple as polling the device and asking "Hey, are you a mouse and keyboard, or a controller?", you get a device ID, and a couple markers to go from, but it's nothing that simple. There would be a ton of work involved in limiting the controller you use on a given server, and it would hardly be bullet proof. Not to mention that you'd have to keep up with the tech cycle adding new edge case devices or devices that get updated drivers, and now don't get recognized as a keyboard/controller/whathaveyou. Its a loooooot of extra work, meaning a lot of extra money spent on relatively little return.

Were PS2 a paid or sub based game, I could absolutely see them going for cross platform servers, but as a F2P title, I doubt we'll ever see that kind of massive shift in server code, especially at this point in the game's life cycle. Basically, if the decision wasn't already made by this point, it's not going to be made.

I'd love to see it, and I'd love to see profit as a motivator take a back seat, but being realistic, DBG is a business, and cross platform servers are a poor business decision for them, at least at this point in time.

Well, controller FPS is all about built-in aimbots, so...
  10. CorporationUSA

If that were true, then everyone would have equally good aim in console shooters.
