Mini Chain Gun

I chose Vanu to begin with based on the lore, got to around rank 17 with a large range of weapons across classes tried out, and I must say, the TR minigun is everything I've ever wanted. After all this time on Vanu and an alt NC, I know I will be with TR as long as the mini chain gun HA special stays TR only. Lasher is no where close to this gun.

No I can't plink people down at long ranges, but I never wanted that. Short-mid range I bloody love this gun. I don't know why so many posts I've searched through diss it.

What's your opinion of the mini gun?

In the time it takes to spin up, any other lmg would have killed the target or at least done significant damage to it already.

I don't see the point. Most of the LMGs are vastly superior.

My experience with Vanu lmg options has been tremendous recoil, large CoF to begin with + blossom, and no options with more than .5x move ads movement.

The mini has just the right recoil imo, straight up, constant, and controllable. With the shotgun-like reticule there's no such thing as bloom. High rate of fire, reload speed, AND normal damage. The one and only disadvantage I know of is the spin time before firing, but for whatever reason I've had no trouble with it, and actually like it a lot because it reminds me of other games I'm fond of with the same mechanic.

I have unlocked it, I still use it occasionally just because its a chaingun, and chainguns are cool. Its also easier to use than other LMG's because you don't really aim with it, its just laser sight and hipfire. But I usually use my LMG for most engagements. I think most people who don't like the MCG would agree that it would be the default ultimate weapon to use if it wasn't for the spin up time. Thats really the problem. See a target, want to shoot it, press fire button, have to wait while target shoots you or runs away, then you actually start to fire.
    Frustration.
Then generally I realize I should have equipped a LMG.

Since that does not seem to bother you, for whatever reason, be happy-go forth and kill.

I'm glad to see someone else likes the MCG. I just used it for chuckles at first, but the more I used it, the more I liked it. Now, I dont use anything else.

Also, the laser sight is for suckers. At the ranges where hip-firing is useful, the spin up time will get you killed anyway, and when it doesnt, the CoF bloom on the MCG is so slow and the TTK so fast, that by the time the laser sight would matter, one of you is dead anyway. Get the extended magazine. 200 rounds per mag lets you shoot at whoever you want, whenever you want. Dont be afraid to use short bursts at long range either. The first 10 rounds of each burst are laser accurate.

Another vote for MCG with extended mag. Get the extra ammo capacity under suit upgrades as well, fully loaded you'll be walking around with 800 rounds of ammunition and a gun that takes 15 seconds to empty a magazine. It still won't be enough.

The trick is to keep to short 10-15 round bursts at range, and to start spinning up before you clear corners. If there's no-one there you can abort, if there is you can completely negate the spin-up in the firefight. Just remember to check your minimap first; mowed down a few friendlies by accident.

If you have a programmable mouse (razer naga in my example) you can macro you up a button to hold down that will keep your MCG just on the verge of firing, so all you have to do is left click to start firing a LOT quicker than standard.

I have the Mini-Chaingun and have put it to good use.

It has a time and place, and you have to know when to equip it. It really shines during those final assaults or as a last stand defense against large waves of enemy forces.

If you run out in the field and do poor with it. You're using it wrong.

Unless you've tried it, you don't know what you're missing, this thing is a beast. Shred infantry much faster than your LMG. The spin up is like 1/2 sec, barely noticeable, very accurate short-medium range firing from hip (lmg doesn't even come close). I can walk in a room and shred 3 people, 4 if lucky (if I caught the by suprise) But the dps is superior than any lmg. Reload just as fast as your lmg. Without having to aim down sight, you can strafe and dodge while shoot effectively. If you aim down sight, with control bursts, you can shoot pretty far.

Only 2 complaints, this thing shoot fast, need bigger mag and ammo, the mag size attachment doesn't increase total ammo. The 400 rds limit is a bit too small for this beast. Second I don't like the looks, it's ugly. How can you shoulder a huge gun like that make no sense, it should be hip fire only, IMO it should look more the the minigun in Predator movie.

Oh ****, the mag size attachment knocks it up to 200? I thought it was a 50% thing so 150. Either way I still love this gun after another day of using it exclusively, I only wish I could pool all those certs that have come and gone on my vanu into this character.

Sadly its accuracy makes it allmost a melee weapon... By the time your in range, EVERYONE has gotten to shoot you and then you have to wait fot the spinup while the enemy takes aim in the same time. Result : RATATATATAATATATATA...

It is good for when there is a massive infantry fight/push and you need closer range area suppression. It is very good for area suppression as it doesn't expand it's COF as you fire it more.

It is like a cheap version of calling out a MAX suit imo (when you want to save MAX resources for later on or if you don't have eng at that point in time).
  14. Elbryan

It's incredibly fun gun to use. But it is a lot worse than any of the CQ LMGs. =P

If you were able to keep it spinning, it'd make it worth using in some situations.

1 thing I do want with the mini chain gun is that the animation should hold the gun in underhand (ala Predator) instead of overhand position.

The minigun looks so ugly with the current overhand position animation lol.

I prefer the MCG myself but I would like it if they fixed the following:

    • Sound: The sound doesn't sync with the shooting animation. In fact I'd prefer if the gun actually sounded like a mini gun in the first place. Change the sound.
    • Remove the spin up animation: While I admit it's cool looking it is game breaking. It gives the enemy the upper hand in straight up fire fights and is also the cause of the firing sounds not syncing together with the firing animation. Removing the animation will kill two birds with one stone.
    • Ammunition Options: Make soft point or high velocity rounds an option to give the weapon more versatility like it did in the original planet side.
In fact I think I am going to go ahead and make a post that will ask for buffs to all empire specific specialty weapons because as it stands they aren't really being utilized with the exception of the lasher.

That's just it though... the Minigun isn't supposed to be an ultimate weapon and it definitely isn't supposed to be your default, the lack of attachments should have told everyone that. It's a highly specialized weapon with a specific role... and it's best used for clearing out heavily defended points. It is statistically superior to every LMG TR has and the bullet spread it fires is nice and tight. It's not going to win a fight when it's spinning up, but if you're using it correctly, you're already spunup when you need it. Use it to clear out defenders holed up on a point then put it away for an LMG. It's also the best MAX killer short of explosives.

It needs more attachments to make it improvable like the LMGs are and the spinup sound needs to be removed because it alerts people that you're coming around the corner. The spinup itself needs to stay because the gun is literally stronger than the other LMGs, it's a straight upgrade and that comes with a price.

I have the MCG on one of my TR characters. If you were able to under slung it like the picture suggested (Predator movie), then I'd buy it for my other TR character.

If you're not spamming with your extended magazine equipped MCG, you're doing it wrong. Its designed to make your enemies duck their heads.
  19. VKhaun

Love it. I haven't used it much since I play TR least and mostly play medic when I do, but it's fantastic. Spin-up is a non-issue because you spin up before you turn the corner or otherwise make yourself visible, just like leading with your HA shield up.

I have no idea if/when it's optimal, but it's good enough that it's just as serviceable at close to medium as an LMG, and it's a lot of fun to play with!
