Mid-air collisions?

So I have yet to unlock the hovering capabilities for my Reaver (it's the next thing I'm saving for), but today at an amp station I discovered something incredibly odd while fighting a Liberator.

I was chasing it, hit it a few times with my missiles and rockets, then it slowed to a stop. I was chasing it at a high spee, so of course I couldn't slow down in time to not crash into it.

Of course, I died, but the Liberator didn't take any damage (looking at the health bar before I died and the HP/schematic on the post-death screen). Why the hell not?

If I smash into an enemy ship mid-air, we should both take a substantial amount of damage. After all, these are two giant hunks of metal slamming into each other at upwards of 60 km/hour!

Why is this? Do the devs honestly think ramming as a last resort will become a problem? I don't see why it should, ramming a target would require a sudden burst of speed in one direction, which allows for easy dodging, even for a Galaxy or Liberator (just strafe to one side)

Even if suicide runs on Galaxies become the norm, all that does is encourage people to travel in groups, or at least grab a few gunners.

Ramming as a first resort used to be common amongst those who couldn't fly, or couldn't fly and shoot at the same time.

Still, it should be a valid tactic!

The problem is, halting to shake an enemy you can't kill is the current tactic now.

"Captain, we're being attacked by enemy aircraft but I can't take him down with these bombing weapons!"

    "Don't worry, I've got this"

    -halts-

    "Captain, what are you doing!?"

    -boom-

"Enemy aircraft own, resuming bombing run"

NOT MOVING shouldn't be the go-to tactic for Liberators/Galaxies who can't fend off an enemy fighter.
