I'm still using up most of my computer's memory moments after encountering any relatively significant mass of players. My game runs effortlessly at 60 FPS when nothing's going on, but the moment a few players show up on screen, I begin to experience debilitating hitching.
For me I get terrible hitching upon login and my game basically freezes when any sort of HUD or GUI is on the screen. If I open the menu the game freezes and eventually I have to end the task. If I manage to get on the ground, the hitching gets progressively worse until I'm getting less than 1 FPS consistently. It seems like this doesn't affect everyone, because most of the members in my outfit can still play. I have 8GB ram on i7 and AMD 7950. I suspect that my GPU is the source of the problem because everyone I've talked to that can run the game seems to have Intel and Nvidia parts.
I got an AMD FX 8350, R9 270X and 8GB RAM and my FPS is 60+ until i get into an epic fight then it drops to 40 FPS. Regular fight doesn't affect my FPS but since the last patch I started getting memory leak issues. It never happened to me before, I know some players where reporting it but never had any issues until now. It is really bad, only 10 min into the game an Windows is telling me to close Planetside 2 due to low memory. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit. Please fix this Memory Leak thing, the game is unplayable.
That GPU should be fine mate, i've previously run the game on a 4870 and a 4670, alongside an i5 and 8gb of ram, stable and smooth on medium settings. Have you tried different GPU driver versions? Newer or older, newer doesn't always mean better in some cases. If you an anti-virus, try a session with it off. What do your GPU temps look like when under load during PS2?
No issues with that GPU when I it had before in this game. Have you checked for any virus/trojan/malware? Have you done any system cleanup? ie the OS, what sort of state is it in? Reason I ask is that often a memory leak experienced by only a few is more likely their own system at fault rather than the game.
This problem is being experienced by far more than "only a few" players. There's a reason so many threads and videos exist that document generally congruent client performance after the October patches.
if the performance degenerated on so many ppl's systems with the same patch(es) it's hardly about antivir, malware, systemclutter, gpu drivers or anything else. that some guys even suggest to fiddle around with the drivers "cuz an older version works better".... sounds like stockholm syndrom
I was only offering some tips to check which may or may not have helped. The fact that not everyone is experiencing it can also mean that there is a commonality between those experiencing the problem, Doesn't mean there is either. It's one of those crappy problems that could come from so many different places.
