Memory Leak still occurring after Hot-Fix #2

The Hitching frame issue is not as bad as before(more manageable than before) but I checked on the Physical Memory Usage of my PC when only running Planetside 2. Originally, Planetside 2 would eat up about 2 GB of RAM, but now even after the second Hot-Fix for the Halloween Update, my Physical Memory Usage shot up to 7.23 GB in less than 10 minutes on a 12 GBs of RAM PC with a Nvidia GeForce GTX 760 card.

Are there any other people having this kind of issue still?
  2. Ransurian

More or less everyone that was having the issue before the "hotfix" still appears to be having the same issue. Nothing has changed on my end.

I didn't have the prob before, but after last patch. It fills up all my RAM (got 8gig). PS2 is playable, but the hitching is annoying. Also, besides using all RAM, I found PS2 to also fill about 3 Gig of virtual RAM (uses HDD space of the OS partition). And that's most likely why it hitches: it fills up your RAM until there's no more free space. Then it moves on to your virtual RAM, your HDD, to use it as additional space for RAM. HDD speed is by far slower than RAM. So when it loads, it hitches.

Edit: Maybe disabling virtual RAM would fix it temporarily. But seeing 32bit users posting it crashes after a while would mean instead of hitching it'll crash, too. 32bit got (I think it was) 2 Gig max for a single process. If it's more -> crash. On 64bit without virtual RAM this would mean it's gonna crash if it reaches the max RAM available.

    Oh great =.=

You know, I had no trouble at all running the game on High settings before until just after the Halloween Update, that's when everything went haywire. @_@

I'm just concerned they rushed this Update out the door to us a little too quickly.
  5. Deathshot

Geez, this situation just seems to be getting worse. >~<

The game won't even load properly. Character Selection screen doesn't appear to be loading properly.
I can't even actually get "into" the game as the client crashes to the MS client error reporting screen before the world even tries to resolve.

WebRoot's System Analyzer is showing that ::

An active process has a possible memory Leak (Planetside2_x64.exe)

When I go into Task Manager ::
I see "Planetside 2 Play Client" under Apps and "Planetside2 (32 bit)" under background processes.

The game ran well on Tuesday. Completely unable to play at all now.

I've heard of 32-bit users having the same issue as you and also from even 64-bit users.

I think it's probably because the Halloween Update adding in the pumpkin hunt event and some of the masks along with new particle effects added in.

By the way, for anyone that doesn't know a good way to check if they are experiencing a Memory Leak, simply put the game into Window mode and have the Task Manager open next to it with the Performance Tab selected.

If you see a huge increase in the Physical Memory Usage History while the game is running, that's a clear sign of a Memory Leak.

I'm not seen any, ever, any major memory leaks with my PS2 client, if there has been, it's never been enough to actually bother my pc and in that department, I've been really happy. However, after the 'hotfix' that addressed a memory leak, I'm suddenly, leaking.

The system popped up a 'halp, not enough memory, quick do sumfing!?!?' type message, followed quickly by *DERPAGE* and complete death of explorer.exe, failed Task Manager (did get it back up after the program was killed automatically) and had to manually restart explorer.exe. I've witnessed memory leaks before, but I've never seen one effect a system this badly since Windows 95/98.

    System specs;

http://pastebin.com/VE2HgNCU (Planetside 2 generated an OutOfMemory.txt (large) no idea if this helps, but it's there)
PS2 installed via Steam - both Planetside 2 - 32 and 64 bit are loading, however it appears 64 bit is the one being fully utilized.

I had no memory leak issues before the last patch. My rig has 8 GB, R9 270X and since the last patch I started getting memory leak issues. Only 10 min into the game and Windows is warning me to close Planetside 2 due to low memory. It is unplayable.
  11. IcemanOB

Yep same here 10 mins in game and it turns up unplayable ! Hope soe fix this soon or least refund my money that i spend on this halloween fail!
  12. Deathshot

    This isn't a bandwagon :p

Think of it as a study. Trying to isolate the cause of the Memory Leak issue. I've seen something like this back during the Tech-Test(I.E. the Pre-beta build) where the memory leak was linked to a certain particle effects from explosions of C-4, Tank Mines, and grenades.

This time around it could be from the particle effects the devs put in for the masks or maybe even the whole Pumpkin Hunt alert that was added in.

The hitching is absolutely terrible. Its taking me back to my Vanguard raiding days. I cant play a FPS like this. OH well, when its fixed ill be back!

What card are you using? Usually lower-end video cards tend to have the worst of the hitching but this is also the result of the memory leak issue from the game.
  15. Drasilov

Radeon HD7770 - I7 2.9Ghz, 6GB ram. Playing on medium with high textures at 1600x900.

Starts hitching after about an hour and a half to the point where it becomes uplayable and I have to log out.
  16. Undyingghost89

I got mad and got myself another 8GB ram. Now with 16GB i'm seeing around 9gb ram usage maxed out. I even disabled page file. It helps people, alot. Get it while ddr3 is not that expensive.
  17. Ransurian

Who in their right mind would shell out $125 - $150 for 16GB of memory for the sole purpose of coping with a temporary memory leak in one game? That's just plain silly. And it's not particularly inexpensive, either. I wouldn't pay more than $80 or so for RAM, and even that feels pricey for consumer memory.
  18. Undyingghost89

I had 8GB so i bought another 8GB (75euros) so its not that expensive. Besides that and this game problems 16GB will come in handy soon enough. DDR4 prices will go down while DDR3 will go up. Time is now, friend.
  19. Deathshot

But that's only a temporary fix to this problem.

Eventually even with 16 GB of RAM, it will progressively get worse so if we can try and narrow down the possible reasons behind this issue, the faster we can get back to killing each other. >:)

i have 8 gigs @ 1600. i've had leaks as well. sometimes after ~10 mins, sometimes after 1-2 hours max then i have to restart my game or else it feels like i'm watching a flip book. its even rebooted my pc a couple of times. the highest i've seen my ram usage go up to was 96%. this patch is insanity.
