MAXes are dumbing down infantry gameplay

    I wouldn't give Matti MAX video to much credit. He knows his **** and is a good player, very likely better than me in truth, but talks out his *** about everything he doesn't like and uses farm footage to show off his opinion.

    In almost EVERY video he makes about MAXes, he says that the NC MAX is the most OP or is the most lethal. But has yet to show a damn thing more than one minute of NC MAX footage. Every video he talks about them, never shows anything but TR or VS MAX footage with spawn shield cover or long range Mercy/Blueshift farms. The only NC MAX footage on his channel is of a Scat/Grinder combo and is a cut up minute of a few lone kills. Nothing like he shows on either VS or TR footage but he keeps insisting that the NC MAX is the more dangerous one by far. He even said that a Scat/Grinder combo is good to 30m-40m, bull-*******-****.

    I got nothing against the man. He just talks out his *** about stuff and doesn't back anything up (that I can find) without having easy farm footage to over-prove his point.

    Also watched first minute of video... That's Mattias, he calls OP everything what he gets killstreaks with, even if that was just pure luck or proper situation for weapon.

    For people really concerned about countering maxes in game, directed firepower, high explosives, and communication will help beat a max that is locking down an area.

    MAXes are not the problem, nor vehicles, its really the lattice that changes the dynamics of the game.

    Lattice creates bigger fights, and you need to use a variety of units to win the bigger fights. In smaller fights, MAXes are too slow and easily surprised/killed by better players... plus they won't even get revived in all likelihood. We see MAXes and everything else in the game much more frequently now because most busy hour battles turn into 48 v. 48 affairs with the lattice. It makes it all feel rather same-ish.

    In big fights, MAXes need a good mix of support and other infantry to do well. Too many MAXes is a recipe for disaster, cause they can be wiped with explosives, and then the whole assualt/defense quickly falls apart. You can toss a revive grenade, and get back a bunch of infantry back to the fight quickly. Not so if a group of MAXes wipe.

    The lattice has changed how the game plays out - for better or worse I'll leave it up to you to decide. But if you want less MAX more infantry type gameplay, there was more of that when you had smaller squad sized encounters... once upon a time, in a PS2 without lattice.

    Blueshifts are the problem with that video, not the giant slow *** target wielding them. The MAX shouldn't have that kind of effective range.

    Seriously MAXes are cake, if you've got smoke you can kill them with a carbine (unless a medic highlights you with the healing aura :eek:)

    Or concs, or C4, or launchers, or AV grenades, or or or

    Compared to something like a Liberator which have like 2 ways to actually kill them, a MAX suit has 2-3 counters available to every class but infil, and even then a sniper headshot does a fair slap of damage to a MAX

    MAX abuse has been prevalent for as long as planetside has existed. The resource system, in combination with pull timers, was supposed to balance them.

    MAX abuse and spamming was worse in ps1 than it is in ps2 because there were things like generators to kill and extensive indoor base layouts where they could clog the halls or camp corners. I recall that the agreed upon solution according to the good players was simply to remove the AI variants from the game completely. The AA and AV variants have an established role in this game that should not suffer for how broken the concept of the AI MAX is.

    That, or buff infantry movespeed or implement hipfire MAX solutions.

    This is a game about HUGE battles and tactics and combined arms.

    I dont understand how MAXs dumb down Infantry battles when TANKS dumb down infantry battles. What are you looking for COD.

    And if everyone pulled MAXs then no one would be able to take a base.

    And If Maxes are the best and save all why dont we see just all max battles.

    Work with people to take out Max. This game works wonder with teamwork

    Agreed. It's almost like he starts with a self-serving agenda then crafts a video around it. An ESF pilot with a hatred for MAX doing his best to cull the MAX population. It's total self-serving nonsense. In the hands of a skilled opponent, MAXes are formidable. In the hands of the majority of the playerbase in PS2, they're not that difficult to dispatch.

    Its not hate. Objectively, if one can look at the lattice, it promotes sameness and generates the same sort of action day in and day out. That just gets old and boring after a while.

    Each and every class, with the infiltrator being left out (as per usual) has access to C4, as well as class-specific abilities & items that aid them in combat, and that goes for combat against MAX units as well. Heavy Assault's are especially devastating against MAXes, as they can have C4, multiple AV grenades and rocket launchers. All those items in one loadout = MAX destroyer.

    Meanwhile, all the MAX has is more health + weapons that are good at hipfire, but cannot aim, so their effective range is cut quite short. They also rely on friendly engineers to stay alive.

    No what hurts infantry game play is mass reviving and necromancers.

    Scenario:
    So you have a fairly average player, that player flanks, gets good position and takes out a group of enemy units coming in. That player feels really proud of themselves, they have a 0.2 K/D so they die more than they kill most of the time. They finally feel they have made a reasonable contribution to suppressing an attack...... *Revive grenade* = Broken

    The fact that a maxed out medic gun can revive as fast as you can kill is insane

    As for the MAX it should be unrevivable, as a compromise it should have it's HP increased resource cost imo is fine

    The only role that the MAX fills right now is: "My cert wallet is a tad empty, I need to fill it up. Let's use a MAX!"

    They are extremely unenjoyable to fight because they are bullet-sponges and kill you pretty much instantly and they are not enjoyable to fight beside because they steal kills and end the battle before you can even start enjoying yourself.

    The thing is that every person defending MAXes says same thing: use teamwork and explosives. And at this point I have to ask a question. What if MAXes also use teamwork. What then? Who will win? Party with more MAXes ofc.

    Most of people here try to tell us that MAX unit is immobile brick of steel in the middle of the map just standing there and waiting for some fairy to put C4 on its head. I dont know what MAXes you guys fight, but I usually see the ones who are actually moving around, trying not to get hit by rockets or C4. Oh, and they shoot back too.

    If killing MAXes is sooo damn easy than why anyone bother to spawn them? From what I've read here they drop like flies.

    I'm trying to think of a time that a MAX has run into a room resurrecting his fallen team, or pulled out a repair tool saying "GUIS, I GOT DIS!"

    Which has a super delay before you can trigger it. Any AI max worth anything can kill you 2-3 times over in the time it takes you to throw C4 and after a painful delay actually set it off.

    MAX units have always been rather unbalanced. Too strong against infantry and not really strong enough against vehicles, outside of the dual bursters which are ok for air. Heck even the AV options MAX units get are uber farming tools for infantry but mediocre for vehicles. Ideally they should nerf AV damage against infantry, buff it against vehicles and give a larger damage boost for headshots that MAX units take. Oh yeah and fix the stupid delay before you can set c4 off.
