At the moment the infantry side of the game is usually resolved by which side the most maxes to the party. Battles are far more interesting when there is less of these running around. I would like to see the resource cost of the maxes increased to 750 or alternatively for all maxes to be nerfed in some manner, as game balance would be much more fun and interesting.
Not sure if those are the right ideas, but the premise is sound. Skill Suits need a redesign from the ground up.
I agree that maxes are way too dominant and harder to take out the more of them present (exponentially). To counter numerous maxes you need to pull maxes. Maxes counter infantry, infantry counters maxes, except when there are lots of them it doesnt work that way. There shouldn't infinite revive for MAX units. Being a woodman player I'm personally sick of MAXes, especially VS ones, as they are being pulled more often than engineers that support them. ZOE or not, maxes are overused if not spammed and this should be adressed not to lose core gunplay folks. P.S. The worst game design ever put into PS2 was allowing every random person to pull max just certing 150 into zoe and 250 for extended magazine cosmos or w/e is it called. Vehicles should require specialization. YOU CANT HAZ EVERY VEHICLE AT YOUR WHIM.
I think step one to fixing MAX balance(other than the obvious ZOE nerf) is not allowing revives on MAXes. It's essentially a vehicle, and like a vehicle when it's destroyed it should be gone.
No, MAXes are meant to break infantry pushes, and defenses. They do that exceptionally well. I mean for the first time in forever the MAX feels like it did in PS1, its meant to be feared, and its meant to crush infantry in its way. And at the end of the day, A MAX is a tactic, a utility, not something you use all the time. Most infantry combat is actually settled by the softies, and only when they can't handle the fight alone are MAXes called. Any nerf to the MAX would break this little behavior, and not for the better. Might as well remove it with some of your logic. MAXes are an integral part to the current battleflow, and truly the only thing no matter what side you play on you fear when heading into a building. That's how it should be
Exactly, they're indoor tanks and should, just a vehicle, and other units/vehicles/items in this game that cost resources be lost upon use/destruction. This should make defences and offences more interesting, as well as more rewarding and tense.
Do you know that a MAX can be killed with 1 or 2 missiles? With a C4, anti-tank and proximity mines and a simple grenade can substract a lot of life? Before complaining learn how to kill MAXes. No, it's not a vehicle, it's a hybrid. It's a man (or woman) with a metal chassis. You can revive the person and repair the chassis.
The fix to the MAX spam was in the Resource Revamp previously scheduled for september 2013, with september 2014 now as a more accurate estimated time of arrival. Until then all SOE can do are placebo measures and randon nerfs to random values.
A man in a suit is not a hybrid. Why can't we revive the person and repair the tank? Because the tank is destroyed, just like the suit.
Maxes are broken game design. tanky and still powerful. no drawbacks. essentially cost free on infantry resource bases too.
NC and TR maxes, as long as I'm a heavy, are fairly trivial. ZOE (please don't hijack the thread replying to this) however makes the one balancing aspect of maxes, reduced speed, a non-factor. I used it a number of times to great effect this weekend--it was absurd. I may have over 4k certs in my MAX, but even the first tier of ZOE elevates a new player beyond a reasonable point. That being said, when I'm not a heavy and C4 is my only option, MAXs are a much bigger force multiplier all around than their cost would justify, particularly in biolab fights where 350 infantry resources is essentially meaningless. While I can C4 most maxes no problem, certs and experience are on my side. For new players getting steamrolled by a mech generally leads to either leaving or pulling their own stock skillsuit. Maxes need a massive retooling all-around.
JUST SAY NO TO INFANTRYSIDE. Boring boring boring. Cry cry cry is all these pathetic softies do, and it constantly spoils the game further. Go play COD or something else if that's what you want. PS2 is all about combined arms.
Lower the dmg of the MAX's, give them a lot more health and make them able to reduce dmg taken by nearby friendly infantry. We dont need a full rework, just tone down the killing power, so MAX now have a function, but itsnt the "do-all-end-all" of infantry combat.
Yeah lets ban space marines and terminators from warhammer 40k too. You are out of your mind. People got on just fine when MAX suits cost 100, could deploy or redeploy anywhere. The resource cost increased to 350 is INSANE and I rarely get to use one with full Auraxium subscription and full cooldown. ZOE needs a nerf, Lockdown needs a defence buff, NC MAX is fine where it is. Go back to COD. Seriously. This is ******* Planetside.
People get by now, even more than get by I'd say. The cost is not very restrictive, by the time I die in a MAX suit I've often made the resources back. Yeah, I can't use a MAX 100% of the time and still afford other infantry resources, but that's because of redeploying and plus I shouldn't be spending that many resources on every smaller fight.
Why u can rez and repair a "destroyed" MAXes? I tell ya ...... NANITES! Honestly we have that magic technology and guys this is no call of duty or real life warfare. MAXES are part of the game. Complaining about a thing that already got nerfed (like other cool stuff droppod rest in peace) because of some whine kiddies that just refuse deal with stuff and rather complain would be like playing tony hawks pro skater and saying that skateboards are op and that they rather wanna ride a bmx instead.
