Mattherson: How long has it been since any empire has taken Indar?

Just curious. At this point it seems like anyone that gets Indar wins at Planetside 2, because the gloating rights would be so huge right now. I think I saw Vanu get within an INCH of taking it this past week, but I swear I haven't seen anyone take it since 2012.

Does anyone know how long it's actually been since anyone's taken Indar on Mattherson?

As a SolTech expat, I don't know anything about the last Indar cap, but the Vanoo were just about 1 territory from taking Indar right after the last patch. (NC fought the good fight and made sure it didn't happen.).

Yeah for us who were on Soltech, I remember the TR used to own it waaaaaay back and they had it for a very long time, then the Vanu took it from them and held it for a week or two, and when they lost it no one was able to take it back. It's been MONTHS since I've seen Indar capped by anyone.
  4. Doom721

Its been a long long while.

As far back as I can remember which is GU02 or 03 I think, the TR took it initially and held it for a couple of days then promptly got hit by both VS and NC losing the lock.

A week or two later the NC managed to hold it for the better part of the week, then lost it up at NS Salvage yard. Can't remember a time where the VS have taken it since the changes to rendering/vehicles/lock ons.

Its just so damn hard to push the map now that everyone has so many tools to decimate their enemies. Near release the conts swapped over all the time, but you have to remember many of the fights devolved to 10m render distance in large bases.

I'm actually surprised other servers have this going on as well. Its been at least a month on Connery that indar has been neutral, and that was only because the NC and VS teamed up to remove it from the TR. They had it for 99% of the game up until then

Briggs is the same. TR had it a couple of months ago, but NC and VS teamed up to warpgate us. And nobody has even come close to it since. That's my worry about continent locking - we are all hoping it helps us get off Indar, but in reality it's the one continent which probably won't get locked.

It's a sad state of affairs when serious discussion is being had about rolling a character of whichever faction is going best (probably NC) and trying to help them lock Indar, so that we can then go back to TR and actually have some battles on the other continents for a day or however long the lock lasts for. That's what this situation is forcing us to resort to.

I believe the NC took it shortly after they took the north warpgate, held it for a few days but then lost it. Other then that I think the TR took a few months ago and only managed to hold it for a few days. Those are the only two instances that I know of where the continent was owned by any faction on Mattherson and I believe it was a night cap in both cases.

You gotta wonder - why is this, then?

Somehow, I want to point my finger at the terrain, in particular. Is there anything that can be done to make the terrain more becoming of letting people push better, without making everything too Esamir-like (in that it's very flat)?

Do you guys think the new hex adjacency system might let people win more?

(Or do you think people not really being able to cap Indar is a GOOD thing, because it means things are righteously balanced?)

I think it's just the fact that everyone who wants a big fight knows it has to go to Indar to get it. When you combine the pop with the fact that no one wants to see the other faction lock Indar, you get the situation we have right now where as soon as one faction is close to the lock, the 2 others naturally combine their effort to prevent it making it a 2vs1 fight, or more precisely 66% vs 33% pop.

As soon as WG can be locked we might see another scenario.

VS took Indar on Waterson last week. Warpgated both the TR + the NC despite having the lower world-population. They held it for 1 day, until the next morning when VS had a 20% world-population, and TR + NC ganged up on them with a collective 80% of the population. There's not much you can do against sheer numbers. Unfortunate that population imbalances can screw over a lot of hard work.
  11. CruelStriker

VS on Cobalt have had triple cap for a few days now, despite lowest population all across.

    ahum

    the crown

    thats why

Indar has never been conquered on Helios.

Part of it really is that there is always going to be two opposing armies against the nigh victors. When we have more continents and inter-continental links, we should see 1 v 1 empire showdowns on continents, so that the demand to take a continent isn't a population imbalance of 50% - 25% - 25% just for the near-winning team to have a chance. In that same line of thought, the current hex system only really works precisely because each side brings 666 people to the fight.

Lines are thinly defended as is. In a 1v1, they'll be even thinner and ghost capping will be even more rampant and an even greater PITA to stop. Ultimately, when one empire is removed from the continent, far reaching movement options open up to the remaining two empires, and they both need the capabilities to bottle up the other side and compress them into their WG to obtain victory. Imagine if the northern Indar seabed had no empire spawning from that WG and the other two were squabbling over the northern area WHILE competing for the center and the southern border regions.

I'd say middle of January, unless someone night capped it for a few hours since, but I don't think so. I remember losing it as VS to a mostly TR offensive on our front (SW WG at the time, of course), we had proudly held Indar pretty solidly for weeks going back into December.
  16. Jaxxx

Superbowl Sunday was the last time Indar was taken by a faction (NC) and that night they ended up having an 80% pop. Funny we were just talking about this last night
  17. centurionvi

VS had 60% of Indar pop at 5 in the morning. "Sheer numbers" is the only way they took it in the first place. Honestly thats the only way any continent is ever capped, which is why its kind of a dumb mechanic. All it does is prove one empire vastly outnumbered the others at a certain point and time.
  18. Vertabrae

TR, much as I hate to say it, has only held it 2-3 times in 2013. We lost it within 12 hours each time. Last faction to take it was the NC right after GU 2, they held it for 5 days. Had some truly epic battles trying to take it away, and broke the server 2 days in a row. You thought it was bad this weekend? That week after GU2 was worse. Since then I've seen every faction come close to taking it at various times.

NC wants it back to prove they are the new big boys in town.
VS wants it back to reclaim their old glory days.
TR doesn't really care to be honest, they just don't want anyone else to have it.
NC/VS will throw women and children into battle just to keep Buzz and the Enclave from being able to say TR capped it.
  19. Lexicon

VS had it on Mattherson for what seemed like an eternity. I'm pretty sure they lost it just prior to that dumb 'competition', when TR had over 50% pop and all the VS were on Amerish waiting for it...
  20. CrashB111

Big part of why VS held it for so long was that Sunderer crash exploit, you'd push em back to their last territory and then your whole army would DC.
