Mattherson Alerts..NC/TR players..Do you participate

I'm curious, how many of you NC and TR players rush off to take part in an alert. I always see the majority of VS pop dropping everything to rush for the alert, wherever or whatever it is. I rarely see many TR doing it, and though I don't pay much attention to the NC pop, I can't say I notice much of a difference.

Me personally, I stopped playing alerts a long time ago. Don't care about em, and personally wish SOE would remove them from the game. I'm sure some of my fellow TR will trash me for not playing them. But whatever, I play the game the way I choose, and I choose to avoid them.

So what about you, do you play them or avoid them. Oh and if you play VS, then ignore this entire thread, because it's not for or about you. You play alerts, great, good for you. I'm not interested in who wins, why they win, or any crap like that. Don't need some VS gloating about how many they win, or how if TR/NC played them more they might win. Simply don't care. All I'm interested in is hearing from TR/NC players as to whether or not they play alerts.

I usually play alerts. It certainly gives more action than just dicking around.. and it's much better practice than ghost capping and getting scraps for experience. However, the VS on Matherson have two of the best outfits in the game and it's becoming less and less fun to be farmed relentlessly. I was playing with my outfit last night during an alert and after an hour of pretty good fighting and pushing back and forth, mostly getting our ***** handed to us by GOTR, we ended up continent jumping to find a decent fight where we had a chance.. Oh.. but then RGQT showed up to the fight. Continent jump again. Oh look, there's the other half of GOTR.. I like a tough fight but with the leadership of those two outfits and the sheer numbers of VS it really started to suck.. I stuck around to finish out the alert and get my hard earned XP.. It's pretty frustrating.. and I'll be honest.. I started leveling my VS guy today..

When ever there is an alert you can be certain to be fighting over 10+ ZOE MAX's. I do not participate in Alerts anymore.

Play the alert and support your empire.

The team comes before the individual.

Depends on how I feel like playing at the time. If I'm on the alert continent already, then I'll usually participate, depending on what it is (can't stand bio-lab alerts, usually avoid them if possible). But I generally don't go out of my way to fight in an alert.

I can tell you at 40 minutes left in Red alert VS q was 12 sub and 56 regulars. NC didn't have a q and I didn't log into my TR. Do what I do with hour left switch to the faction that will win it usually pretty predictable. But If you don't pay for a sub you want have a chance.

You can really get your farm on in matherson with the VS like shooting fish in a barrel.

If its on the continent im currently playing ill join in and farm some certs, if its on another I just ignore it, especially if ive just pulled a max or mossie or prowler, and continue to farm certs at current location...

I no longer enjoy alerts on matherson as NC. I do somewhat enjoy alerts on matherson as TR (strangely when you have 19% pop you fight fewer vs even as you cap their territory, who knew?). I am reluctant to be dragged into an alert for 25-45 min and get almost nothing out of it other than frustration and a number of inevitable deaths resulting from overkill.

I participate and enjoy alerts on waterson as NC, since the vanu put up a good fight while being underpopulated a bit and TR put up a fun fight while overpopulated. Best of all, NC have a chance to not be utterly defeated. With my extended experience on matherson I find this to be practically a win and alerts make me feel (dare I say?) good. (though if you do decide to make a character in waterson please be observant of which faction actually needs people, at this point it appears to be vanu followed by NC)

Alerts are like conventional warfare. When a superior force (numbers and tech) engage an inferior force, the inferior force should revert to unconventional warfare or perish. The exception is that a planetside 2 alert can end almost instantly so there is no real long term grind goal that a guerilla fighter would rely on. Either way I find I have little to no fun on matherson alerts so I will now start guerilla warfare during alerts to mitigate the inevitable 0 certs I will get from the alert and draw my own goal as to how much of a pain I can be (in a non-hacking, non-glitching, non-cheating way of course). Be the ghost, fear the ghost.

    which outfit are you in?
  11. Epic High Five

    Yeah usually.

Except the 9 biolab ones that crop up 30 minutes after the VS late night crew takes world pop control. Unforunately this particular alert pops literally every single night first thing after prime time

I don't get too invested in like, winning them because I don't really need certs for anything at this point, but it's easy to find a lot of really good battles when one is going on.

Oh yeah and I avoid Amerish alerts because to hell with that horrible skygod continent.

No outfit. I normally play with my long time friend and game buddy AL00ZER. We sometimes lead squads or join platoons, give and follow competent (and sometimes not) orders, but most of all we try to help the greater amount of people we can. If that means being the only 2 skyguards in a column of vanguards while attacking vanu (seriously, you know how they like their scythes!) then that is what we do.... kind of miss being in a vanguard to be honest, but got some good vanguard time in waterson. Sometimes it is hard to see what you need while in a big organization, so being 2 people out of it we can do small things to shore up weaknesses that most miss. On the flip side we are only 2 people and can only do so many things at one time unless SOE implements backpacks like bad company 2 (you have to do more... More! The only way to win is to be so awesome as to counteract your wookie snipers.)

Lately we have been countering rage at harassers by being in a harasser or liberator (at least TR minigun has a harder time shredding liberators these days)

The unconventional warfare idea is a new one we have not tried yet, so it will be interesting to see how useful obliterating a scattering of reinforcements in vehicles when the main force takes minimal casualties in the first place.

*note* we have command channel, smoke, tracer darts (AL00ZER does), and do what we can to assist others/inform/motivate the NC when we can.

biolab alerts are stupid with the 3 minute cap timer. comes down to who is willing redeploy quickly and often, and everyone knows moving all the new tr/nc players around quickly and often just isnt realistic.
  14. Negator

well, thats part of your problem with matherson, and part of the overall problem. you and your 2 man squad will never have the same perspective or impact as someone in a serious outfit, especially when it comes to alerts.
  15. Typhoeus

I enjoy them for the most part. Let's me get my farm on with an abundance of targets to mow down. Can be very frustrating though when you want to win as a team and not just as an individual. VS abuse their zoe's to full effect in the final minutes of an alert to repeatedly rob us of a well earned victory and NC are unpredictable often handing out victories to the VS by going back to defend one biolab or amp station from a TR attack, only to lose two more to the VS instead. Those two scenarios drive me up the walls I ain't gonna lie xD

Oh and when important fellow TR outfits opt out of participating in an alert. That sucks too.
  16. Giggily

Yeah, I was playing on my NC character tonight and felt like VS really abused ZOE by forcing TR to try to cap one of NC's last amp stations before they started all whining about how NC should have been fighting VS instead of them. I mean we could have had a three way tie, but nooo, somebody just had to defend their amp station from the massive TR attack instead of just ignoring it!
  17. SleepyWalker

But that is the point.... of being outside. We do not expect to do it alone. We expect to assist others in what they are doing. I honestly got right pissed at all the times I have seen NC tank zergs get decimated from ESF's. That is why I got skyguard before this last big update on them. I have saved countless NC lives and turn the tide of battles with a single sinking skyguard! I mean all they need a single vehicle to not fail from a hail of rocket pods, is that not sad? (though lately I have seen far more, think an entire offensive was speared by surviving skyguards, was funny... too bad we got bogged down by mountains)

To say that it is simply that 2 people cannot make a massive difference and if just the two of us joined an outfit all of a sudden matherson NC would start winning is kind of silly. That is why I think you did not say that, but rather we would have more fun if we joined an outfit. This may be true some of the time, but then we are stuck being spawn trapped and dying like everybody else in the platoon... which was the entire reason we were not in the platoon in the first place.

That is the perspective we are achieving, and it is important to not be in that platoon. We have our experience, we have command channel, we have the map, and we have a knowledge of our limitations. This effectively means we are like a force add-on. we are an important, competent, part of any operation. It just turns out that late at night being competent does not mean all that much when out numbered 4:1 at critical areas (not that many other places to go with lattice and ghost capping is dull now that I can actually play the game with a decent computer). Hence guerilla warfare idea to eek some fun out of the situation.

*note* I am forced to play late at night... like I am on the forums right now instead of playing a game. This is perfect vanu overpop time for matherson. (also, it is not overly hard to see where people are going to go with lattice. with that out of the way all it takes is to see what their force is missing or what would be most useful at the time)
  18. Negator

of course its silly to say that about you and your friend, but what i mean is that you, and the hundreds of players like you cause problems. Groups of randoms, whether in platoon or not, react slower to both strategic and tactical problems. You cant get around that; and it makes the faction suffer.
  19. LowTechKiller

I always participate if I'm on. Win or not it's good XP, and it's not hard to find a good fight.
  20. VargTwo

Alert starts on Esamir/Amerish>VS moves out in force to Esamir/Amerish>Takes over everything due to no resistance>Looks over to Indar> All of NC/TR is still fighting over some pointless objective/The crown.

You know i also like Indar but staying there wont win you any alerts.
