Mattherson: 20ms Ping But +500ms Latency

    So, on Mattherson 90+% of my duels are ending in mutual death and I'm not talking a simultaneous death. This is me murdering a guy, but instead of him dying he continues to fire at me for almost a second longer during which I keel over dead. Then ~500ms-to-1 second later he just falls over and I get the kill. There are no other allies around... this is not an assist and he is not suiciding. On my kill screen it shows him as the killer and will show him as having anywhere from 25% to 100% of his HP at the time he killed me.

    Been playing since Beta and a mutual lag death has never happened to me until just recently. And now this happens almost every. single. fight. Its as if all my hits are registering on a 500ms+ delay? Has anyone else been having strange latency issues like this? Trying to figure out if they fudged something in the recent update, their server is pooping itself, or if its something on my end.

    I assume pinging 199.108.194.38 will properly give me my ping to Mattherson, yes? If so I'm reading a steady 23ms. Doesn't seem to be a problem with my connection as it isn't dropping packets, spiking, or having any difficulties in any other games. I live on the East Coast

    any firewalls slowing down the game's packets to the server?

    pinging is just an ICMP packet which won't find any resistance from your firewalls but game's traffic might

    Hit reg, health and so on are all done server side.
    If anything it's a server problem.

    well, when I play and at the same time downloading (especially torrents) I encounter exactly the same issues as the OP, so no , it's not always a server issue

    Well I do infact have a firewall... and few weeks ago it updated and noticeable changes in its behavior were visible so perhaps it could be the culprit. I have disabled it and so far after about 15 minutes of playing my TTK seems to be back to normal.. no more delayed death b.s. so far. Peeps are dying and dying fast. Its a short sample size, but a promising one. Gonna play for a few hours and see if it was indeed my firewall. :mad:

    1 hr without firewall = perfect
    1 hr with firewall = perfect

    Then the latency returned. ~50 hits right into an afk infiltrator and only seconds later did he finally die. This latency coincided exactly with the game deciding to not register my rocket launcher or grenade hits on the enemy so it definitenly has to be server side (??). Guess the server decides sometimes to not register my hits at all (which others have experienced) or it gives me the 500ms-1second latency treatment tricking me into thinking I have connection problems. Server just seems unstable of late. Oh wells. :(

    I think it's happening on all of the servers that are to be merged. I just chalk it up to them working on merging the servers.
    It usually happens between 9pm-5am EST, give or take a few hours.
