Remove the skyguard turret from the lightning. Then modify the lightning model a little bit and make it a new vehicle. The Skyguard Stats: 25% better top armor. 25% slower than the lightning. Weak against other land vehicles. 15% weaker armor front, sides, and rear. Cost: 300N Turret Ideas: TR Minigun. Basically a better walker with a small spin up. NC Heavy Flak Cannon. Basically a better ranger with lower RPM. VS AA Laser. A continuos instant damage laser beam that heats up quickly. Coyote barrage rocket pods. 8 self guided missiles that lock onto aircraft at close range. Lock-on Dual rocket pods. 2 rockets that cruise to enemy aircraft after locking on.
I like this idea, because I've always felt the skyguard was a bit of a lashup. Perhaps bring back the two man skyguard model assets from Ps1? and have the proposed interesting asymmetric weapons. 1 Dedicated driver and one Skyguard gunner.
Whatever, as long as it's able to down a liberator hovering 30 meters above you without having to go through two and a half clips of ammo (175 rounds) with every hit before it goes down. It's nuts that something that its sole job is to shoot down aircraft, it literally has to run away from everything else, can't take down a bomber that's hovering right above it. Increase base damage and add some damage fall off or somthing. Faster ROF and tighter cone wouden't go a miss either.
Which is why it should have extremely high top armor to prevent from being insta kiled by a dalton. The old planetside 1 model seems a bit buggy. Not tankh enough to withstand a dalton from above. Although a two man skyguard would be very interesting. I think it would add another layer of teamwork to vehicle play. Maybe the driver can have a small kobalt to use as protection?
No point since the skyguard is just a weapon. We don't need content thats not needed since a more constrictive version of the lightning isn't going to bring lost players back.
Nice ideas, all over the forum, all kinds of players have great ideas that should be considered, if it wasn't SOE. Given this patch fiasco with the Valkyrie.. and all the other things that are supposedly in queue with the Road map.. let's not ask SOE to do anything , for a very LOOOONG time, other than fixing bugs... No more new weapons, no new vehicles, no new continents.. nothing new.. NOTHING at all, please. SOE should spend all their time on fixing the game bugs... all of them... there are lists in this forum with hundreds of things that don't work yet., some that haven't been fixed for over a year.. and longer.. SOE needs to focus on the 32bit client, stuttering, hitching, hit detection and so many wrong data files.... AFTER they get all that fixed, probably around 6 months from now.., when this game could finally be out of BETA, only then, and only then, should they even think of adding anything new to the game.
Exactly, let SOE work on their product without interference from players who don't actually know how much coding that would take, money spent, or how it wouldn't actually bring any people in the game.
It should always have been 2 man, driving around and avoiding obstacles doesn't sync well with staring at the sky and shooting aircraft. Same with MBTs.
I vote for the mobile "Skyranger Air Defence System", developed by the good old German Rheinmetall AG. Mounted with the kind of hell unleaching air defence weapon called "Oerlikon", it should get a Sundy chassis and should be very mobile but, if in some "anchored mode" like a prowler for example, it should have better hitting capabilities ( maybe less bullet spread) than unanchored. Stats and upgrade possibilities have to be discussed and balanced of course... Greetings, Palbuddy
Requiring 2 players to operate a skyguard would also alleviate the problem of a solo guy taking out a 2 or 3 man gunship. The problem is that one skyguard piloted well can do a lot of damage to air, but 2 or more is a complete no fly zone. They often position themselves well behind enemy lines where it is not at all feasible to take them out with tanks. I would definitely endorse having a max range for flak and then making skyguard tougher against libs. Skyguard should be driving along with the armor column in close proximity to protect them from podders and low flying libs. They should not be shooting at every plane in render range. Conversely they should be the hardest vehicle in the game for a lib to kill. Specially fabricated to take massive damage from the top.
There is only so long SOE can be expected to support old aging hardware and old operating systems and equally 32 bit clients. Planetside 2 is a demanding game that is only going to get bigger and need more resources as time goes by, and for that to happen the 64 bit client is the way forwards.
