Magriders and secondary gun spam

    This is getting rather annoying in large battles, not so much because of the weapon it self, no it's due to Magriders being able to climb way too man hillsides and spam down to facilities. It's OP but moreso annoying as hell.

    It's one big spam fest and you can't kill them as they can just back up a bit and repair.

    Change the terrain so they cant climb all those places near facilties and make it even for all 3 faction MBT's.

    If you remove Magriders ability to climb, then give it Vanguards armor or Prowlers cannons.

    Okay, let's make PPA take 5 shots to kill.
    Then, we'll make the Magrider's hill climbing, and make it only slightly better than the Vanguard/Prowler.

    If it underperforms, I get to make you deaf by yelling "TOLD YOU SO!!!" in you ears.

    You should also losing your strafing ability to sty in line.

    Copypasta from another thread, but feels more appropriate here.

    I want to say it was Axehilt that brought this up a while back; but the magrider will need a significant rework in order to properly re-balance the secondary ES weapons. Particularly in the Main gun department. TR is overdue for a reduction, VS is overdue for a buff. (Vanguard, non-AP I believe was also low in some areas. Would have to check stats again.)

    Traditionally; the VS secondaries have been arguably (or literally, in the first iteration of the saron) better weapons then the tank's main cannon. I recall in the early days, threads uppon threads of arguments over how PS1 vets hated the concept of the new tanks. (Driver gets the main gun!? BS!) The Magrider was the only one that retained some of that PS1 feel. To compensate for this; the main cannons are unarguably the worst weapons of the three factions. Low damage, low velocity, higher gravity, horrendous firing arc.

    Is the PPA to powerful? Statistically speaking, no. It's within a few percentile, performance wise; of it's ES counter parts. Which is wrong.You cannot only nerf the platform and expect it to remain a viable vehicle. Or we'll have a second occurrence of the Magrider destruction patch were all VS would pull was Lightnings.

    Tweaks I'd personally make to rebalance / redesign the Magrider...
    -Retains "low" armor.
    -Either: (Main Gun gains dps, loses extra gravity.) / (Main gun dps remains; but loses drop entirely and gains velocity.)
    -Greatly improve firing arc. (Bring up to par with other tanks)
    -Loses extra hill traction. (Make only slightly better then prowler.)
    -Heavily reduce the "Mass" of the tank. (This improves mobility.)
    -Increase max strafe speed, baseline.

    The Magrider loses it's ability to climb to absurd areas. However; it would have to gain significantly in the mobility department to keep it even a semi-viable vehicle. I am aware that "mobility" is a rather unfortunately, binary trait. It either works, or you die. But without replacing the magrider completely, I do not have a better solution at this time.

    I'd also shuffle the ES abilities a bit, or introduce additional options:
    -VS would get a shield module.
    Pulls up a shield for [X] seconds, that blocks projectiles entirely. Would leave the top exposed, so there is always an angle of attack; but would stop damage from sides / front / back for a little bit.

    -TR get an Overdrive engine.
    Increases the maximum speed, and acceleration rate while active. Allowing the fastest tank, to actually be the fastest tank. Would have better uptime then magburner.

    I'll take that deal all day long! Make sure we get a cannon that only fires 1 rocket that does the same damage yours currently does! Lord knows how many times I've wanted to punch my monitor because a magrider uses his boosters to evade my second AP round. Believe me, I'm sure TR would gladly do 200 less damage to only have 1 rocket to hit with.

    While we're at it, let's buff our secondary mbt weapons, because, as you know, Higby has stated many times that we only have a "better" main weapon because our secondaries aren't up to par with the other factions. How many people use the Vulcan? Oh, yeah, none.... (none that know how to play anyway)

    What do we use instead? The halberd.... Because, sadly, that's our best option.....

    Back on point,

    I'll trade you my main cannon, heck, you can take the lockdown too, all I want in return is your ppa and to be able to hover as well as climb mountains that even infantry can't get up without jetpacks... OH, NO BULLET DROP too, please... OH, and I'd like your boost and strafe ability... Then, afterwards you can come back and complain about how difficult it is to land two shots several times consecutively (because it doesn't just take 2 ap rounds to down a MBT, you gotta make both shots, 4 times in a row to down a mbt before you're toast) And I'm going to come back and say "we hover, have afterburners, can strafe, climb mountains, shoot 300 meters at infantry without calculating bullet drop, but we aren't unique enough, we need faction traits"

    Sounds like a good day to me bro

    I like to think about how bad magriders are now with their spidertank abilities but thinking back towards release.... Man, those were reaaaaaaaaaaaaal spider tanks, hovering like 7ft off the ground lol.

    That's easy to fix. Leave the base you're at, go to the next base down your line, pull a tank (or C4), sneak up, and blow 'em to pieces. It works *every* time. Those tanks concentrating on spawn houses are usually far too busy to be aware of threats close to them.

    It's not about MBT balance. It's about the spam we get in battles due to being able to climb too many odd hill sides and rain plasma all over a facility and thereby holding everybody inside the spawn rooms.

    A MBT sohuldnt be able to climb those hills. Let the Harassar do that as all faction then can. Also, that is much easier to kill than a MBT up there.

    If not doing anything. The facilities needs a better way to counter it as in better visibility up hill from inside spawnrooms or other buildings so you can shoot back and kill them or t least make them go away :) Ie more defense from inside against this situation.

    Yes, but here's the thing. So few outfits/platoons or even squads are actually leaving the spawn room/battle to attack from the rear or flanking positions. And some times it can take a while to get back to the battle. You may also lack the resources. So the issue persist in alot of situation.

    If only TR/NC had some way of getting at that Magrider! It's unfortunate that only VS have access to aircraft. I guess TR/NC are just doomed.

    Maybe we should nerf the Magrider, but make it easily revertable. That way, when nobody pulls Mags, and lightning weapon sales are up by ~100% , we can say "Hey, we said it wouldn't work" and go back to how it is now. Or better.

    We could give it a try, as long as we could revert it.

    Because having a spammable explosive weapon that takes only a cursory level of aiming at a general wall to rack up certs takes such skill. such certs wow

    Like how all the vanu just jumped on this thread defending the OBVIOUSLY badly "designed" farming equipmen...uhh i mean weapon...


    Give the ppa marauder like drop , even smaller splash and give the maggi main gun some more juice..or a bit higher rof for the ppa.

    To OP => No. Take Liberator next time if terrain hinders you to kill something in ground vs ground.
    Also suggest something to keep Vanu as Vanu instead of just swinging your imaginary hammer of nerf.
    Otherwise you could remove Vanu instead in the future, because it would be just like NC/TR, only weaker.

    Magrider main gun is fine, it performs like vanguard's but slightly better, still the difference is minimal, about 200-1000 kills or so, depends on the day, but it gets compensated because NC kills a bit more with the enforcer than VS with the saron, so it's about the same.
