Lovin' those dome shields

Well, if you don't want air in your Amp Station fight, kill them with AA. That's how this game works.
Organized outfits can do it easily, being protected by the walls of an Amp Station. So yes, if you are smart and have a dedicated AA unit, then you don't need dome shields.

It's a fix for a non existent problem. I don't even fly and I don't want the shields. They look stupid and will have the same effect as simply removing the air from the game.
  3. Roarboar

Well I agree, air is hardly a problem most of the time. However during offpeak hours there is barely any anti air at all, so for that matter I think its quite positive.

Dome shields are just not for ps2.

Why are they adding these shields to what seems like all bases, especially facilities? That's just discouraging combat...there are plenty of AA guns at Amp Stations. The only places I can imagine these really being needed are smaller outposts which can get swarmed with ESF's and Liberators relative to their capacity to fight back. Then they should probably have a generator to down them too.

I'll have to see how it plays but overall it seems like a strange and lazy patch job to the spawn room shields/camping problem the game has.

Made me laugh when I pictured it.

Maybe they shouldn't of made AA ineffective so YAY DOME SHIELDS IN THE MEAN TIME!
  9. Kumaro

So Drop pods is a no go around bases now unless you go LA huh?

It's a quick and easy solution. Theres no really programmable mechanic. It's controlled by simply owning a base. That's why they put it in. They are to lazy to put in any real mechanics that players can properly alert to change the game around them. There is no interaction. What's worse is that they already nerfed the resources which handles a lot of the zerg so these domes are just more restrictions the game doesn't need. The restrictions the game does have are the wrong ones as well.

If only people had played PS1 to see the difference. I'm not saying PS1 was better or that PS2 should be PS1, but PS1 had a proper mechanic for controlling players. You had a limit of certs and a specialist tree of sorts. You either used tanks or jets, but not both. However you could get those vehicles up when ever you wanted. In Ps2 they let you have everything so you can buy everything but they limit everything so people who did specialize are punished. But hey, you can always buy equipment for a tank if you fly a jet for some station cash!

In large battles where people actually have AA then there is no problem. HOWEVER when a lib pilot is over a base of 10 enemies what are those 10 to do? Rockets do piss damage to libs, burster got cone nerfed, and base turrets are you serious?

Should 2 people in a lib or even 1 guy alone switching to turret be able to decimate a group of 10 without any chance of dying? Personally I say no. He will take half damage then fly away 30 seconds while he nanite heals or lands to heal then he is back for another round of insta ganking people.

I get it I really do, some of you suck so bad at infantry that you roll tanks or planes, or your ping is so bad that that is all that gets you kills. However some of us enjoy playing infantry especially when they said since beta the game would be focused on infantry more than the original planetside. When you roll infantry EVERYTHING can 1 shot you. A plane, a tank round, a mortar round off sundy, or a sniper head shot, don't even get me on harasser topic, he can kill you in 1 rocket, it takes 3 decimator to kill them really????

What instant kills a tank or plane? Oh that's right, I have to drop C4 on a vehicle that has a dedicated gunner on top and can move faster than infantry can???? while not getting 1 shotted?

Take shields away but boost rocket damage and I am happy. Maybe double its damage if you are using dumbfire and 25% for lockons. That or let me hit the treads and disable its movement with 1 and leave the damage the same i don't care. It is annoying that it takes so many rockets to destroy a tank or lib, and they can back up and heal to full in 5 seconds and come back, yet I am out of ammo.

Why do flares have unlimited uses as well? I recommend flares require air resources to purchase each and every one with a limit on how many you carry. I have a limit on everything from grenades to rockets to med kits, let them have a limit on flares.

Anything that makes infantry live a little longer to get in good infantry vs infantry skilled twitch combat without getting insta ganked from something you don't even see is a good thing.

I hate bio labs as infantry player and they want to change all bases into bio labs... anti-air turrets are there for a reason, to defend base from aircrafts they don't need additional force field to defend from air units... BTW these forcefields will take away all the fun from playing as an esf as all fights happen in bases and there will be no way to bombard bases from air with them. Even if these dome shields will be possible to be taken down, I still won't want them as air forces in my opinion should be in the first lines of attack. Air units aren't an issue as I as a heavy infantry am almost never killed by them.

    This.

This constant drive towards more restriction and fewer options is absolutely goatcrap insane. You know that the open beta of a certain other game is starting soon, right? You know that this game also features air, tanks, and infantry, and it has no such magical shields at all, right?

It's like SOE intentionally wants people to play that game instead of this one. "Oh, you wanted to keep playing PS2? Here's some more reasons not to!" This isn't a design choice. This is sabotage.

Back to the topic of Dome shields (*hint* stop raging off topic), I don't like the current implementation. Yes, it does make sense to bring aircraft to the same level of restrictions as ground vehicles - there are vehicle gens at amp stations (except Dahaka) for example. But right now it's too restrictive to ground vehicles.
Take the situation at present with land vehicles. Once a gen goes down, that means the vehicles are allowed access, moving the gameplay from infantry only to infantry and vehicles - it's fair, there was a chance for the defenders to hold it to infantry only. However, it would be silly if there were no vehicle gens at all - that would mean all base fights are infantry only, period.
Therefore we arrive at the no complaints, happy situation where there are vehicle gens at major bases that go down to allow unrestricted terranean access. Why not have the same situation with aircraft and dome shields? They are basically the flying man's vehicle shield, so why not let them go down?
I can think of numerous ways a (dome) shield incapacitating system would work. Firstly, it needs to be the infantry's job first - the attackers must do their work ground pounding before they get to air to ground pound. What if, for example, there was a skitter-bug like target on the underside of the dome shield moving rapidly but predictably, that required, say, 2 MAX unit's worth of marksmanship to go down? And if it went down engineers would have to repair it using some reset switch or through interacting with some power pylon. OR, there could be just a normal generator/s like present. Another building to house it wouldn't be hard to implement, there are plenty of empty ones in a typical tech plant.
That's my ideas. What else can people think of?

The shields just dont look right....simply hovering above the base glowing off little emitters. Atleast put them on top of towers or something, make them look like they coulda actually belonged there. And dont let us walk on them....

They should be kinda seriously shocking. You touch them and KAZZZZZZZAAAAAAPPP.....BOOM!
  16. DeadliestMoon

So it's fine that tanks and other vehicles have shields blocking them from entry into the base, but it's bad that aircraft get them as well? That makes perfect sense..........
  17. BaronX13

    But you dont understand guys!

It's just like why lattice is amazing. Why should we have to do work, and actually ACTIVELY DEFEND bases with an effective frontline?! It's so much better now that all we have to do is move our blob around and not have to think about tactics or even use our brain! Right?! Right?!

Same thing for dome shields then!! Yay!! Why should we have to use our heads and actually plan to have active AA up BEFORE the aircraft show up?! In fact these amazing dome shields make it one step better! Now we don't even need to get AA up WHILE they are in the area, we can just ignore them cause they can't get to us! Yes, this is amazing, now crappy squad and platoon leaders don't even need to think about AA, we wouldn't want them doing their job anyway, especially not with some level of skill! Right?! Right?!

Yes, thank you for these wondrous dome shields that make it easier for those mentally impaired players who are too lazy to actually use tactics, we would hate to ruin their simple minded fun!!

So having vehicle shields equals no tactics huh? Well seeing as how major facilities have AA/AV/AI Turrets plus a vehicle shield, I bet you think that there's already no need to have any tactics huh? Don't be ridiculous, If ground vehicles and infantry get shields to prevent entry and generators that can be taken out then I'm sure they can tie the air shields to the vehicle shield's generators which will enable them to be taken down. Rendering your little 'rant' invalid. Also lattice focuses attacks to create a frontline where as hex would've just been a disorganized guessing game.
  19. RobotNinja

Shields are stupid. What this game needs is more walls.

First off, vehicle shields can be taken down. Second, all turrets require tactics, try putting soldiers in them BEFORE the enemy shows up, in case you couldn't connect those dots. Also since you are so knowledgeable, why do you need dome shields if you have proportionate AA up? Are you that bad a shot? I'm curious as to what the need is. My argument isn't that the shields can't be designed to require tactics to function, its that if you had a proper defense in the first place with proper AA you wouldn't even need a giant blue snow globe shield. So argument is now valid again.

On the lattice, same argument, you say it would be a disorganized mess right? Hey, surprise, it's your platoon/squad leader's job to organize that defense. (P.S. If you're tired of having to move a whole platoon to stop one guy...stop sending a whole platoon to do a job 3 players could do, just saying). Lattice doesn't focus a frontline, it FORCES it. And again we wouldn't even need lattice to create a frontline if squad/platoon leaders would have done their job and created a frontline in the first place. All it does it make it easier for cruddy leaders to do less work. By the way, if you're interested on tactics that COULD have been used to make a frontline even BEFORE lattice I'll be happy to tutor you.

Also, next time might want to realize a joke post instead of getting your panties in a twist.
