Little pounder how come you hit harder than fracture?

And fracture you look like a double barreled falcon yet you do 36% of it's damage.

size of the projectile matters more than size of the launcher for that sort of thing. So quite obviously most of the fractures size is dedicated to its loadin mechinism, hense the 10 round mag and fairly impresive fire rate. The missiles themselves are dedicated to thrusters more than payload, which explains why the fracture missiles move so fast compared to the others

Hmm. Not bad, except shaped charge warheads are ultimately limited by diameter rather than sheer quantity of explosive. So the only way that could hold true is if these were kinetic penetrators, at which point the Fracture ought to be smoking the others given that it's got, by far, the highest V on a V-squared equation, on the smallest cross-section projectile to boot. Considering that it -doesn't-, we can only assume that the Falcon's rockets have enormous mass.

You're also not looking at firing rate. How many rounds can you put downrange with the Fracture by the time the Falcon is able to fire a second time? Five maybe? I punch those numbers into my calculator, they make a happy face.

You are right on the money there pikachu, fractures are upgraded falcons

    i think in gameplay terms,
fracture's high RoF/mag/projectile speed is why it does less damage than the difficult to use pounder,
falcon obviously does alot higher damage because its single shot mag with a slow moving "Here i come!" projectile.
  7. Pikachu

But just look at the size of the barrels! Falcons and fractures have the same caliber! The pounder has like 1/8th of the caliber. My point was that the looks of these 3 weapons does not match their performance, at least relative to each other.
  8. Ibuprofen

Well, according the the weapon description, the Fracture does fire "self-propelled, high velocity kinetic darts designed specifically to penetrate vehicle armor," with the implication that the other weapons use shaped charge warheads for their penetrative power, so you've got both situations going on.

The pounder does more damage because it's slower in all regards. Also not as devestating to infantry. I'm really sick of getting killed by fracture maxes indoors instead of chain gun maxes. The TR got a one size fits all max and it's annoying as hell.

Statistically, TR AI MAX weapons score kills at a 4x the K/D and 8x kills/hr when compared to Fracs . Anyone bringing Fracs to an infantry fight are doing your empire a favor. For perspective, if you add both the old and new AV weapons together, NC averages 23 infantry kills/hr, TR 22 and VS 18. What this means, considering the fact that all empires have almost identical overall MAX stats, is that the VS are more often bringing the right weapons for the job.

OP: Thank you for this thread. I love it when people nerd out about wicked unrealistic physics stuff in games and it's nice when I'm not the only one.

Doesn't mean it doesn't seem much more effective than the old AV maxes at AI. And yes the physics are bad, but NANITES!
  12. exLupo

Seeming and being are often extremely different things. :)

I mean, in this case, it's much more effective than Pounders versus infantry but that's only because the old dogs are so godawful on their own. People are just surprised that a TR AV kit is actually killing them out of melee punch range and it stands out in their mind. TR are just now doing what NC and VS have always done. Meaning, TR AV kits aren't free xp anymore. Ineffective AI but better than turning over, lifting tail and waiting for the inevitable death screen.
  13. XRIST0

Because of its fire rate , obviously .

    Common sense ?
  14. exLupo

Not a game balance question. A nerd fake-science question. Lot of people keep missing that in this thread.

You need to go grab a pair of comets and try to kill infantry my friend. There is one guy in our outfit who likes it, but I find them wimpy, and unsatisfying even after the buff. No one else even bothers with them when fighting infantry. Also, the rapid fire death machine absolutely destroys my max. Maybe that's why I'm so grumpy about it :-/
  16. exLupo

That's what I'm saying. They are wimpy and unsatisfying. Fracs aren't much better and, when compared to using AI guns for AI work, total trash. Falcons, Ravens, Pounders, Fractures, Comets and Vortecies *smirk* are all crap against infantry. Fractures are the best of the bad, true, but it's like wearing cologne while working in a sewage plant. At the end of the day it still stinks.

I'm afraid it's a case of "because games".

Yay >= 1 person gets it. It's a topic about aesthetics not balance.
