Light Assault: the tool slot.

    How about a sapper. About the size of a carbine it emits a beam that drains the nanites out of shields and active infantry utilities, cripples both base and vehicle turret rotation speed, and can prevent an AMS from spawning units while the beam is hitting it. The drained nanites are stored in batteries that the light assault can then use to replenish the nanites and shields of friendly units (AOE by pressing F). Once the batteries are full the sapper can not be used until space is made available. One can not sap and supply at the same time.

    Cert upgrades can increase the range of the sapper or the capacity of energy it can sap before requiring cooldown.

    You can use all the fancy lingo you want to try and spin it. Seeing an enemy through walls is... wallhacking. PS2 shouldn't even have the spotting feature in game but that's as far as it needs to go.

    Perhaps some sort of net-gun which immobilizes enemy troops? That would be fun, useful, and unique to the class.

    Sounds like you play LA with shotgun and don't like the truth. I'd say HA is a close second though, and as an Engi/Medic myself, I've claimed numerous times the AV turret is extremely strong, but, nothing comes close to how easy mode a shotgun LA is and it's a class that allows bad players to get kills easily. Hiding around the factions banner in a roof life crossroads and being able to jump down and OHK people in a populated spot, all the while screwing up hitboxing with JJ is an extremely easy "tactic" to pull off, even easier if the target is distracted against another enemy. Agree with me or not, it makes no difference, it won't make the LA require more skill, nor change my opinion that it's the basic class for beginners, those with no respect for themselves and/or like cheap kills, and yes, an overshield for HA is also something that can make the class easier, but LA is still easier due to it's ability to surprise players a lot easier than anything else.

    All classes have their basic or cheap weaponry, LA has the most synergy, or requires very little thought process.

    The problem you describe is with shotguns, unfortunately it's turned LA into the "shotgun" class--which is not good, and not productive. Why should that deny them a tool to use though? That is not really a reason.
