Lasher 2.0 Opinions?

I really hate the basic weapon for the HA. Inaccurate, clunky and such. As a result atm I pretty much only play LA & Engi. Ive been messing around with guns in VR and all the HA ones seem to be very similar to the starter gun except the lasher.

So, does anyone have this gun and is it worth getting to make the HA playable for me, does anyone havesuggestions for a different gun? Or should I just stick to my Engi?
  2. FallenArchon

Orion I was doing poorly with then I got pulsar did even worst changed to lasher did good once you learn the gun.

then I found SVA-88 don't know what it is but 300kills till aux medal and loving it.

Also tap tap tap quickly while aiming at the head

Depends on what you're looking for. If you're looking for a gun that's just fun to operate, look no further(it fires big, glowing, explosive disco balls, what's not to love?). If you're looking for an accurate, dependable weapon then you really should look elsewhere. It's not the kind of gun you'll win many 1v1 engagements with, but it has it's uses, especially in organized squad play.

It is worth it, you aint a true vanu if you don't have the Lasher but try it out before on PTS or trial it with lvl1 characters. but using the Lasher is a challange it has a very high learning curve how to use it efficantly at diffrent ranges. close range you have to aim at the chest area as 80% of the enemy players use Flak armour and it removes a lot of splash damage, flak armour do not remove direct impact damage.
Lasher is a area denial weapon so shooting at doorways or corridors is important you can find enemy players or deployed mines. If VS own a tower you are at, then standing on the staircase in the vehicle bay is a good spot to kill any TR or NC trying to enter the bay. Bio labs are good but you need to watch out for friendly fire as it is the heaviest in the bio labs. find a spot like 2nd floor on the spawn building as its one of the best spots for the Lasher atm in my opinion.
The optimal location is in high places, so have that in mind when defending and attacking a bas try find the highest place you can safely and stay at distance and work yourself close as you get more sure when using the Lasher, if you hit a wall and the splash hits an enemy they will certainly change location

also if you deside to use the Lasher you will be the prime target by tons of NC and TR as your like a Light house useing the Lasher. but remember when using the Lasher and ADAD the longer you live, the longer the life of your fellow VS will have when they defend or attack

I'm not sure any of you understand the implications of "Lasher 2.0" and the horrible memories it conjures for TR/NC circa 2003.

Just had a play with the SVA-88 on your recommendation, it certainly feels a lot nicer though the stats are identical, its just mag size and reload speed that differ. I think Id have to use it with a compensator and a laser sight thought.

The basic weapon, meaning the Orion? I still use it and do fine. Perhaps give it another try, or practice up.

"my guitar sucks, I can't make it sound good" (Good player takes it and creates beautiful sound) "Oh cool, at least I know its me and not the guitar, I can change that - awesome, thanks for showing me!"
I'm battle rank 60 or something, and I haven't really used any other gun on my HA other than the Orion. It does fine, at all ranges.

I have the Lasher, and if you don't like the Orion, you're not going to like that. IT takes much longer to kill someone, but the bragging right after doing so is the motive :D

I use the LAsher when i'm in a crazy mood, but it is tough to use; takes a bit more strategy to use it, and I take more damage (due to longer TTKs) but it is funny to see the shock on the other player, not used to balls coming into their face (umm that didnt sound right, nm)

I use the lasher. It is my primary weapon.

    A few notes:
I win about half of 1v1s with it.
Against many enemies I will die in close range before I can hope to kill them. Given this, I tend to have my S1 out at all times when I am expecting CQC against skilled enemies.
With LA I fairly regularly kill several enemies before dying, but with HA I have closer to a 1:1 kill ratio under normal combat.
I heavily value 'peak' utility. The lasher grants me the ability to occasionally kill entire squads of enemies who do not react properly. Ever since the grenade nerfs, this is not possible without it. I would be crazy to say that I don't do worse with it on average though, compared to every other primary weapon.

These are my comments and warnings about it.

That said, I miss the Lasher 0.0. Crazy ghostbusters beam allowed by to kinda reliably do crazy nonsense. Half the time I would die without even being able to shoot them, but the remaining 1v6s at close range I pulled off made it worth it.

Yet I have no problems with the Solstice VE3 on my LA and Engi. Thats my whole issue. LA is supposed to be more squishy yet my effective damage and length of life is significantly longer as a LA and I find kills much easier to come by.
  10. FallenArchon

I'm running HV ammo, Comp, Grip, NV scope and I'm at 588 kills with the gun

VX-67 is 1100 kills thing was a beast now trying to unlock Solstice Aux Medal having no problems with the gun.

    This.

The actual "Lasher 2.0" was arguably they worst balancing mistake ever made in an MMO, and I can't see any MMO ever beating it in the future.

The Lasher (current version) in PS2 is a decent if somewhat situational weapon, it reminds me a fair bit of the original PS1 Lasher in fact in that it takes a fair bit of practice to effectively use.
  12. Clutchstep

I like the Pulsar LSW because its pretty accurate for an LMG when ADS. But if you like to hip fire I'd suggest an SMG instead.

I have the Lasher and really like it but it's a situational weapon. If you try to use it everywhere you're probably going to hate it. It's awesome for defending and indoor mid-range fighting but it's terrible for CQC and 1v1. It can be decent at long range if a lot of enemies are clumped together but the orbs are too slow for it to be useful in that range most of the time. Its a fun weapon but foot overall effectiveness you'd be better off getting used to an LMG.

Having used both, Frost Mages, WOW. They have been through various states of OP in PvP from only able to beat every other class with moderate effort regardless of skill to able to solo 3-4 other players without taking damage regardless of opponents skill.

While Im mentioning Wow....Release state deathknights. They havnt been as consistantly OP as frost mages but despite being hit by the nerf bat 1000 times during beta, they release and could still 1 vs 10 without any problem. Litterally if a DK 20 level lower than your max level toon started running at you, you ran because you couldnt win.

Compensator cancels out the laser sight as the compensator increases the hip fire cone of fire while the laser sight decreases it so it would be better to choose a setup like compensator / grip for long range and suppressor / laser sight for hip firing close quarters to get the most out of it.

Compensator with laser sight gives you either nearly no benefit or a negative one like being easier to spot on the mini map if you fire.
  15. Talshere

The Compensator stops vertical pull making it easier to keep aimed, the laser sight reduces the CoF to negate the negative of the compensator resulting in all the +ve of the compensator without the negative. With one form of recoil (and the most severe one since moving targets mean youll be needing to consistently modulate horizontal aim anyway, while vertical most remains consistent) effectively negated it is much easier to modulate for horizontal recoil removing the need for foregrip.

The result is one small change resulting in a far greater increase in accuracy than would otherwise seem apparent.

I use the Lasher almost exclusively as my VS HA weapon and occasionally get really great kill streaks with it; here are the pros and cons that I find with it...

    Pros:
Good for suppressing fire from a distance... it lays the smack down on the enemies at a distance while at the same time, it hampers their vision. You're not likely to outright kill anyone at a really long distance with it, but you will get a lot of assists. And while you can really see where the Lasher is firing from... those big, bright, glowing orbs make it difficult for your targets to get a solid mark on you. I find it good for suppressing sniper ridges, particularly, it's hard for them to scope anyone when all they see are glowing orbs hurdling at them.

The weapon shines at a medium distance, 25-75m, this seems to be the best killing range for me; because, again, the Lasher makes it difficult for your target to see you when you're pelting them with exploding blue balls (hehehe) so it generally gives you a bit of an edge. Plus, splash damage, you can damage more than one person.

    Cons:
At close range, you're as likely to hurt yourself as you are to hurt your opponent. It has splash damage. If you like shooting out of spawn room shields, forget the Lasher, it will explode on contact with the shields.

If you're going to use the Lasher, use it as a supporting and suppressing weapon; you'll still get a lot of kills, just don't run into the building first kind of thing.

All Ps2 redesign of the old Ps1 Heavy Assault weaposn Suck.

These weapons were awesome. (disclaimer just like it is in planetside 2 the size of the image doesn't matter)
    [IMG][IMG][IMG]

Here were the concept which would have totally rock.
    [IMG][IMG]

but instead we got this GARBAGE. and I do mean garbage. Jackhammer is the worst Shotgun, MCG is the worst squad automatic weapon and lasher is just worst weapon of the three (and that is saying much)

I would KILL to have lasher 2.0 instead of the pile of steaming crap higby gave us

lasher is the best weapon in the game my ***. that right there proves higby doesn't know **** about how to do his job
  19. asmodraxus

I wonder whether the original lash (from PS1, the Lasher Orbs didn't explode but has a low AOE for each projectile so a missed shot still did abut 5 damage out of about 100 health) effect could make the "Lasher" more lethal without it being OP.
  20. treeHamster

It's only a good weapon if your teammates will STAY BEHIND YOU. Otherwise it's the quickest way to a weapons lock.

IF they will stay behind you, then you can easily use it in inside the smaller buildings (not the size of the ones that house the vehicle shields at AMP stations, but just a little bigger). I do it a lot and get kills but it works best on people who don't have flak yet. You have to have the laser sight though or you won't hit much because ADAD strafing will ruin the CoF.
