"Kill cam" being considered in Roadmap forums.

I wouldn't say it's just a matter of "revenge". Example: I get sniped as I respawn on a Sundy. Now knowing the exact enemy location/direction I'll just grab my Longshot and quickly hunt him, not exactly because I want revenge but because that's the "correct" thing to do. After all I don't want that guy sniping our engineers as they are repairing the Sundy.

While there will be of course people that will just "ignore" the marker, specially in larger battles, I'd say players that like to take their time looking for a advantage point will nonetheless end up being hunted/chased way more.

"Only campers would get kicked in the nuts by this minimap."
Since it's true that not only "campers" would get nuts due to this I'd say it did sounded like you said that. Apologies if not.

If you go to the link at the first page.. it shows the mock up of what they're doing. There's no kill cam, it clearly shows they've nixed that idea. They instead will have a line on the minimap showing which direction the kill came from and continuing beyond the origin point. I'm not sure where the early picture in this thread came from showing the exact location of the killer, but it's not on the roadmap.

Still this will hamper infiltrators and light assaults some but it will erase much confusion and give newbies a chance at some retribution without completely giving them an advantage they otherwise would not have.
  3. Giggily

That may not be on the roadmap, but on PTS it shows the exact location.
  4. Valok

The game already offers more than enough ways for you (or your allies) to detect the location of incoming fire. Even if by the end it doesn't end up showing the exact location, that small line/marker on the minimap will be more than enough for experienced players with hundreds/thousands of hours played on these same maps to pinpoint your exact location in mere seconds. Again, this decision is not newbie friendly because they won't be the only ones with access to it.

Fine then give them a killcam from rank 0 to rank 5. At rank 5 take it away, and then give them an auto-tea bag emote.
  6. Inex

As opposed to the epileptic seizures required of anybody who isn't actively invisible?

I'm liking that implementation. It doesn't look like there's an exact elevation indicator, so tower camping isn't entirely eliminated with this. I do think we may have seen our last rafter-camp 'killstreak' video though.

Because 'newbies' are constantly managing to hide their location from expert players? You're going to have to be more specific about how this change negatively effects the play experience of your average BR4 HA.

BR4 get's tired of being mauled on the front, he then see's a very interesting wall and decides to climb there and hide on a corner waiting for a "good opportunity". BR4 get's the drop on me while I'm running bellow, kill mark will point to the wall so I'll just head over there and end his little party or I'll simply tell someone that there's a guy in there.

This of course will have more impact on big battles, with all the shooting and explosions even for experienced players it can get sometimes a bit confusing to say from where exactly you are getting shot (specially at night), that's why flanking is more effective there. This however changes everything.
  9. Liquidrider

Wouldn't kill cam be detrimental to many classes though? To be specific Infiltrators and light assault where stealth and location mean survival?
  10. Inex

But then, the existence of the kill marker also means that BR4s will have their own parties to crash instead of thinking there's gameplay to be had hiding behind some boxes hoping somebody will walk by.

I think you need to have more examples before you get to use the word 'many'.
  11. Coffee Hound

Is it really that difficult to move after you kill someone?
  12. Peebuddy

I don't see how SOE can even do this if they wanted to, they can't even get rendering working right.

And they expect us to believe they can record everyone and stream that data to the player hundreds of times a minute? That **** works in small CoD maps with a max of 64 players in a very controlled map. Not so much when the max players in one hex is possibly over a thousand, it's more trouble than it's worth.

They're just once again seeing if there is a demand for it, if it's enough they'll attempt to do it despite the difficulty. But so far it's a resounding "No" so I don't see them breaking their client for something people despice in Planetside.

    This is beyond stupid.

Forget sniping, this kills my play style for every single class. I hit from unexpected angles, use terrain and cover to sneak into and behind enemy lines even as a Heavy Assault. With this there is no need for situation awareness, just use your kill cam and wait for the res-nade.

Why should they have a completely artificial 'chance at retribution'? What sort of nonsense is that?

In any event, this change will just make life harder for the new players. Better/more experienced players will now be able to hunt them down using all the knowledge they have obtained AND the 'kill screen'. There will be no hiding place anymore - and this will help the most skilled most of all.
  15. Valok

You are correct, but at what cost? Sniper's/Stalker's will be the most screwed (Specially new players that decide to try this class), LA's will be right behind it, flanking will be more uneffective for everyone.. I don't know, it doesn't seem worth to me.
  16. Kcalehc

Have some kind of directional marker so you know what direction you were hit from, then when dead you can look at the map and figure out the likely location of your killer from there.

Oh wait, we already have that.

This hole always keep moving is so wrong that it baffles me of how people keep insisting on saying it.

Sometimes it's better to find a proper flanking spot and stay there for some minutes, specially if you are defending and there are enemies everywhere. Sometimes moving equals to instant death.

As always a experienced player will analize the situation and decide what it's best considering the opposition, the overall objective and the resources available.

To say that you always need to be moving is just as incorrect as to say that you always should stay in one place.
  19. MostlyClueless

If the new players are already racking up kill streaks on the more experienced/ "better" ones I don't think this change is aimed at those hypothetical new players.

The idea that people will abuse this feature by deliberately dying so they can see where the enemy is, is completely stupid. No one is going to do that.
  20. Coffee Hound

Just turn invisible, move to a nearby area, then kill the guy when he runs to your old position.

It's sad to see that a cool feature will likely be removed due to so many snipers whining that they may have to move out of their farming spot.
