KDR is Killing PS2 / Remove Death Statistic

I just see it as a number, that's it. It doesn't affect me in any way.

PUBLIC K/D is for arena/deathmatch style FPS where the boundaries and game mode rules keep the weapon balance in check (and in often case the same weapons are used) for all players.

You might play PS2 for pure FPS/Deathmatch entertainment, but the guy with a lower K/D than you who you are judging might be more concerned with holding the line than what his K/D stat looks like on the player site. It says nothing about their RAW ability.

Holding the line in PS2 = many many deaths. But holding the line in PS2 can also = very very fun. Choosing to fight the good fight does not mean that player lacks the skill that you feel you posses.

I'm confident that many of the guys who kill me at range with tanks and aircraft, or those that assault a base with their outfit squad that I'm lonewolf defending with a handful of other randoms would not have a K/D of 5+ in a 10 minute 1v1 deathmatch against me when we are both using the same weapon.

And let's be honest; a true competitive player would or should realize that this stat has extremely limited value in the type of shooter that PS2 is. There are too many variables and player skill levels all thrown in together to make the stat all that useful.

If anything, remove the K/D stat from the players site and make it private within the stats page in the game.

Once the whole "professional gaming" thing starts, publish K/D from those results under the category of Rated Score.
    Because:

    1) It will be a controlled environment.
    2) The skill level of players should be about the same (especially if any sort of ladder/ranking is established).
    3) "Professional" gamers shouldn't care about their stats when playing non competitive gamers.

Look at Rising Storm, it's all about PTFO. They don't track deaths for a reason, just seeing a stat makes you care about it.

People hate dying in DOTA 2. People will be super lame and run away from anything just so they don't die if they have a good K/D. Doesn't hurt the game. KDR and the addiction of trying to get better stats are why people play some games (Not me). You have to understand that it is a relevant stat. Taking it out of the game will not add anything. It will only piss people off that they cannot view it. See SC2 and the fact that they finally made it possible to privately see your Win/Loss for everything. See DOTA 2 where they made it private so you can at least track your k/d's between characters.

If you really think that the death stat should be removed...you are thinking inside too small of a box. That will piss more people off than it will make happy. People are stat junkies, its a fact in all facets of life. Don't expect this game to be any different. Even if the death stat was removed those poor teamates sitting there dead would still be poor teamates.

I know right... Like removing k/d stat from the game will really change the game. People have some crazy theories here. Yes lets track less statistics than we have now. That's brilliant!!!

Seriously though..like this guy said, lets get more insightful statistics and not just go removing statistics because some people don't like to look at them.

I have to say that when I first heard about this change I thought it was a joke. Now I saw it documented in the GU11 notes..

What is going on? How clueless can SOE be with these changes? I mean honestly - this got to be the most silly thing I have ever seen. If the loser is revived and the death is wiped away from the K/D like it never happened then the killer should lose the kill as well. I mean in all fairness. According to SOE no death occurred so there can't be a kill either, right?.

/yell Shooting from behind the shields only eliminates the foolish that expose themselves for no other reason but to let me shoot at them.
    Better?

Well, in sense by removing the ability to keep track of your kills and deaths, you remove the ability to keep track of your performance as an individual and you only see the "score" which is gained by overall impact in the battle rather than the killing proportion.

Removing those stats makes sense if you want the player to ignore his personal skill and how he performs, and just focus on fighting the fight and risking himself constantly in the meatgrind.

But this game has no reason to actually give a toss about "winning the fight", so people just look at their KDR because what else is there to this game?

Yep, ive once remained dead for 30 + minutes waiting for a medic. Revert this ******** change and bring kdr back in its full glory as it was pre patch.

I know right? Because there will ALWAYS be a medic there, who will rush an entire enemy platoon for a 1% chance of reviving you before he dies so you die a second later anyway. ALWAYS.

If you take KDR there is still Score, XP and Certs. XP = Certs. People are still gonna sit back and farm for them. Score = well...score. People are still going to lord it over "you noobs."
  13. MrForz

We'll making it simple for you since you have a hard time looking further than your own nose:

KDR with the new medic related feature convinces alot of people to stay down and wait for a revive instead of respawning and keep fighting. Alot of us, on all sides, see that just way too often. Removing it would disable the mental restriction keeping huge amounts of people from going through the potential meat grinder that the PS2 large battles are. They often put a barrier to the bolder strategies.

I accept maybe 2 or 3 revives in a play session, usually I just hit respawn because I'm in a bad place and likely to just die again, low on ammo and no ammo pack on the map or want to switch loadouts to adapt to the situation at hand.

But I agree with the patch not really being an improvement but rather a downside with people now staying face down in the dirt and not doing their part on top of staying inside the spawn room and just taking pot shots at enemies instead of going out to actually make a difference.
  15. Terrex

OH NO PEOPLE PLAY HOW THEY WANT. Still not an issue here. You can play how you want, others how they want. Grow up.

If the indirect effect is so important to you why did you not state it in your original post?
  17. Camycamera

i agree that spawn rooms should be put underground completely like iin PS1, but K/D is nothing but a number. also, PS1 had K/D. just sayin'.
  18. Phyr

So you're saying PS2 has a really low k/d, and it's depressed about it?
  19. Sunderer

Well maybe if you reviewed the TROLL'S posts, you would of known that he stated he only read the TL;DR version.
Why should I spoon feed a troll the main arguments, when they are available to read in the OP.

-People are staying dead longer, waiting for revives that are long expired.
-The change destroys all credibility to the KDR stat, now that you can easily get a friend to spam revive you.
-Camping behind shields should not be an option or even a viable play style, if the spawn rooms were underground people might actually leave them and defend those obscure bases for once.
    Etc.
  20. SgtBreastroker

Dude, barely anyone cares about K/D anyway. All the people who want it gone are such a minority and the only ones who really care about it.
