Has anyone else tried to jump on a ship/jet and shoot it from the top to take it down? Like the the trailer below or am I the only one? Has anyone who tried do it successfully (Video proof)?
If you try, you just get run over due to physics. Try just standing on an ESF when it takes off and you'll see.
Small arms only damage esfs, a galaxy/lib pilot would laugh at your attempts. And as mentioned, you'd get killed if they move while you're on top. Actually happened to me once, did a gal drop and landed on an enemy gal; shortly after he took of, I just died from being on top, he didn't even have to shake me off or anything, just: dead.
Somewhere in this old video I made, towards the middle, I gave it a shot. I think I was out of C4 or I would have slapped a brick on. Edit: At about 1:40 is when I tried it.
nope but what is a lot of fun: take 2 Galaxies. make 2 teams each team stands on one Galaxy, the Galaxy now fly slowly so you can stay on top. Now you try to kill the other team on the other Galaxy. (I'd suggest making it with different factions, weapon locks happen fast this way, especially if you win)
You can c4 a hovering aircraft with a light assault. A ESF you can blow in 1 brick, I think 2 bricks will either blow or set on fire a Libby (depending on placement of bricks). 2 bricks wont take down a gal at full health (though can take him to the red, again depending on placement), however. You would have to wait for him to be hurt, hope he stays around long enough and within reach for you to jump on him (hoping he remains stationary and doesn't run in 3rd person like any competent gal pilot) place 2 bricks in the correct spot on the gal for max damage... Of course any upward vertical thrust will insta-gib you. Very difficult, but doable. There are vids out there of examples. -Sam
Well... The Light Assault lacks a tool, we could always give them magnetic boots to permit the ability and bypass physics. This could potentially be disastrous as it could make ESFs bombers via attached Light Assault troopers with C4 bricks. Can't say that it wouldn't be cool though...
I've C4'd to ESFs in midair. Admittedly I was waiting for them at a tower to re-supply and jumped off the top, did my C4 fairy thing and then waited for them to fly away again before *click*....BOOM!!! Satisfying. A Lib I have only gotten once by climbing to the top of a bio lab as LA and jumping towards it as it hovered over a landing pad. Annoyingly 2 C4 only set it on fire. So he Fire Supressed, ran away and came back later on. Sucks that 2 C4 will not down a lib.
bit hard, if you have a trolly Gal pilot in the other team he will just go up a few meters and laugh at your light assaults trying to fly to him
That sounds awesome. Boarding actions! I've yet to C4 a ESF, but I did land on a hovering lolpodder and autoshotty it (was out of C4.) Ten rounds is about half it's health. Sadly it bucked me off and flew away before I could reload and finish it. I've done a few other cute things with small arms and jet packs against ESFs, but that's the only time I've ever landed on one in air.
You may be right, thought I think placement position has a big impact (seems like the more angles of the aircraft's frame you can include in the explosion, the more damage). There is a good vid online that I saw that explain placement and c4 when dealing with aircraft, though I can't seem to dig it up. I found this guy though from 3 months ago, however we of course have no idea if / how much this ESF was damaged before it was c4'ed.
