January Update - Make/Break PS2

THIS is the fundamental issue with the players in PS2....this is not COD or BF3, this is a massive combined arms FPS. You literally just complained you almost quit because of a massive tank column (did you expect different from a combined arms game? grav AV or a ESF and quit whining), THEN you moan about a massive infantry zerg (WTF?) Grab a tank, or a ESF and quit whining.....if you came accross a massive ESF zerg Im sure you would complain about it as well.

Basically people, there is a counter to everything in this game, just because you are to stubborn to change class or play "outside" your comfort zone to repel what the nemy throws at you is not SOE's fault, it is your own unwillingness to adapt, go back to COD/BF3 where you can handle the 16 on 16 infantry only (with a couple tanks) battle your so accustomed to.

Hate to tell ya to Hal0572, the people with the ridiculous "doom and gloom" predictions on the forums are the FAR minority, see the amount playing the game compared to the amount predicting the "end of PS2" isnt even measurable.....FAR more playing, spending money, killing people, and your own predicting doom and gloom....hate to tell ya buddy the ONLY thing your achieving by these posts is scaring the few new players who have the distinct displeasure of checking the forums BEFORE playing the game. We should give you and every "doom and gloom" predicter the A Z Z H A T of the Year award for furthering the loss of players which ironically is something your trying to prevent.
  3. ReaperLSW

Yeah. That's totally what the population graphs show.

    Wait, they don't.
  4. eckart

maybe mmos are dead in general? wow is probably still a giant despite declining player numbers, eve seems to be holding strong which is nice, and then we have guild wars 2 which is going strong from what i hear, but the rest? rift, tera, sw:tor, where have they gone?
  5. ShakareeNC

Bringing up something liek graphs without showing proof....please provide a link before attempting to back up your response with proof

I really thought we would have an ANNOUNCEMENT BY NOW. Maybe Smed and is sock puppet producer are taking an additional Holiday week off.
  7. ShakareeNC

its literally 2 days after major holidays, maybe Smedley actually is enjoying some off time with his family and plans on making his announcement later in january, i mean god forbid he makes you wait a week or so.
  8. ReaperLSW

I would bro, but no matter what the data says you're just going to come up with excuses.

    "People are taking finals."
    "It's the holidays."
"Losing 60% of the player base in a month is normal."
"Well, two high pop servers out of 25 is still pretty good."
    "It's a niche game."
"It has more players than Eve online still."

Nice try, sockpuppet. You've earned you cake for the day. Your master has been on Holiday and tweeting nonsense for weeks now. He is supposed to be a business person, deep down inside.

So basically you made a post with no proof and will now defend it by deflecting, congratz on being another doom and gloom a s s hat, and citizen, wow just grow up, did smedley announce a exact date for the patch/announcement, maybe hes in meeting after the holidays with his development staff, you know realizing theres some issues and his actually doing something about it, go play COD you will be happier.
  11. ReaperLSW

You already proved me right by posting how a steam graph doesn't count. Thanks for playing there, kiddo.
  12. sustainedfire

I do not know if anyone else has noted, though "Titan" is only 2 letters way from Titanic- and look how that turned out!
  13. Gavyne

I actually think the delay has to do with meetings and them getting together to figure out what to do with Planetside 2. There are obvious design changes that players are looking for, so things have to be re-written and their announcement which may have been all written in December may have to be changed. We do know this month we'll be getting 1) their 6 months plan, and 2) the large optimization patch. We also know via Smed's interview in December that in February they'll be adding in tutorials and other things to make this game more newbie friendly, and that they'll be going after new players then. So that leads me to believe they're confident by February, the game would be solid and they'll be running ad campaign to attract new players then.

So I'd say both January and February updates will determine the fate of this game. But I'll also say even if this game ends up being a niche game, it does not mean it's a failure. Not every game can be the next CoD, not every game can be the next WoW or Eve Online. In fact most games on the market today are more niche than they'd like, but they all have respectable number of fans playing and enjoying these games. Hard to call them failures just because they are not the next biggest thing.

It doesnt, Steam has been known to slow down PS2 and cause some crashing issue on systems for people and the far majority DO NOT use steam to launch PS2....but if steam numbers are down we should all just move on because steam is the end all be all of gaming, what did we ever do before steam arrived????
  15. Rivenshield

Now *that* is patient money. And we still don't even know what it is.

SOE needs to take a chapter from Blizzards' book.
  16. CitizenSoldier

    Oh.....I get it now.

ShakespearNC here only even made his character on 12/9/12 and he hasn't even played since 12/23/12, yet he is already BR 36 - Cleary this youngboy is a Lib pilot and part-time tank driver. He likes things the way they are, thus his venomous defence of a game that is cearly broken and deeply flawed.

I sniffed you out, sockpuppet. I sniffed you out.

SOE were fantastic in BETA in terms of updates. There was literally an update every week or two some of which made major shifts in balance. There was also fantastic communication going on between the developers and community. They need to pick up near where they left off now they have had a holiday.

This has always been SOE's business model. Release a half-finished game with tons of promise and then instead of fixing issues simply recycle content and don't actually do anything. DC:UO/SWG was the same deal. Tons of promise, totally screwed up. That's why I don't spend money on their games anymore. No matter how much potential it has on release they always kill the game.

For me, as long as they fix the rendering distance of infantry I'll be more or less happy. Right now the game is killed for me (a sniper) because the only fighting that goes on anymore is at the crown, and render distance there is like 15 feet.
  19. Reizod

You do realize that the "modern gamers" you referring to are the same type of gamers this game was made for right? So, um... yeah...

So you've played all these games and you weren't satisfied? It would appear that unless "your" ideas were heard and "your" suggestions taken the game(s) weren't going to cut it. I'm completely satisfied if you chose not to play these games based on that criteria, but your ideas may not represent mine or the gaming community.

If you want to post your suggestions that's one thing, but to expect that your ideas are the best for that companies product and that of the gaming community, I'd say that's quite audacious of you. You may have covered some areas there people would agree with, you may have made suggestions that seem reasonable, you may have made recommendations, voiced your opinion, offered advice and gave your level best, but its not what the developers were wanting from their product.

Its easy to sit on the sidelines and be the Monday morning quarterback. I can assure you that if you had the resources, the clout, the ability to see your ideas implemented, someone or several people will find your solutions unsatisfactory too.
