I've been having a problem with lag during big battles so bad my character can barely move. What seems to fix it, is rebooting the computer then logging back into PS. I don't know if that could be the result of a memory leak or something else.
Don't have a lot more data on that so I thought I'd pass this along before I forgot.

Briggs server as well... I am playing in Malaysia.. I got so fed up, I played in European servers and it plays so much better... What is wrong with Briggs, seriously?? I really don't want to abandon my best character just because the nearer servers can't function properly... THERE IS SOMETHING REALLY WRONG WITH THE BRIGGS SERVER.. Please please please please please please pleeeeease check it out...

    The same here.
    Server: Waterson

Big battles = big lag = everyone teleporting!
I'm using a 2mb (horrible connection - no wifi) but the PS2 don't use more than 45kB. I know that my connection it's ok.

prime time on u.s. east (waterson) is unplayable for me. server is too laggy with too much delay. i hope someday they fix server stability/performance, otherwise i am looking forward to transfering onto some other server once the devs release the server transfer token

Its, at least for Waterson, on SOE´s end, see this image, it is a trace from my computer to Waterson server:

The last jump which is about 100ms (a lot) is between SOE´s servers, and there is packet loss too, the ping goes from 165, what I usually have playing other games, to 265-70 and everybody warping around.

They need to fix this ASAP, I want go back to playing the game I spent money on...

I submitted a ticket for my lag. I followed up and posted the information they asked for. The service folks and I kept going back and forth for a while and eventually my lag went away.

Submit a ticket, check in with that ticket to make sure you're providing info and doing what they recommend and I'm betting you're lag will go away too.

    a) You understand that if something done to your machine "fixed" your issues then "server lag" isn't something you were dealing with.
    b) Having you jump through hoops to keep busy waiting for the eventual server restart isn't exactly "fixing" the underlying problem.

Yeah, prime time, waterson, it's really hard to hit anyone while they teleport around.

You do realize as part of submitting information, they ask for network routing information - that directly relates to lag.
Yes submit tickets, how else are they going to know where the bottlenecks are and work with the ISPs to fix em?

I also have this issue, it started like 2 or 3 updates ago and just submitted a ticket. I connect from Central America, to Matterson ,I tested the connection before and it used to be a 80ms ping , now its 220ms. If I ping waterson I get 110ms, so I tried playing in waterson and got the same issue just a few minutes after starting. Its unplayable for me, I just log in for the certs:(

My point was only that if there was an adjustment made to your machine, then server lag was never your problem. Glad it's fixed though, that's always a good thing.

About the traces: I guarantee you sony does not work with your isp. Your isp isn't going to change their routing simply because you (or even many) people get lag on a game server. Not even you, the paying client (home user), can get an isp to change their routing. That just doesn't happen. You might be a paying customer, but you really don't matter in the grand scheme of things; besides, the internet is a volatile place, it's a matter of routine that routers get congested. Your isp only handles your traffic for so long, it's then handed off to the intermediaries who're independent companies. The only people Sony "works with", if they actually work with anyone at all would be Switchnap, one of their providers. If level3, or one of the other big intermediaries is having issues, there's really only 1 thing you can do, wait it out like everyone else.

If you are going to play devils advocate, at least take the time to read what people is finding out... if you se the pic I posted there is a huge jump in the last two nodes, with an increase in 100ms in ping and packet loss...those two nodes belong to SOE not a 3rd party, so yes, its a SOE issue and they need to deal with is ASAP...

I was talking about PWGuy's isp. Sony isn't going to call his isp and ask them to change his routing. For arguments sake, even if sony did call, his isp would not change anything.

As for your trace, you can't really tell a lot from visual trace route. For starters the screenshot doesn't expand enough for me to read it. Second, I just pinged Waterson (i did manage to read the ip), the last two hops aren't sony. They belong to these guys: http://www.limelight.com/

If you''re having a lot of pl on the server itself, then of course it's sony. However, I can't tell from what you posted.

Secondly, icmp traffic (ping) is the first to be deprioritized on congested routers, so ping, or having a couple bad hops doesn't necessarily mean udp traffic (game traffic) is also suffering. It might just mean the routers are busy so they do last what matters least, like respond to ping requests. Having said that, sure sony can call limelight networks; after all, sony is their customer, but I think I already said that in the quote you posted.

I'm not saying you don't have issues, not at all. I'm sure you do. I'm also fairly confident that a server reset would clear them up as they're probably on sony's end.
  19. patricio_z

    last two hops:

    68.142.111.254 host: sony.ge4-12.fr3.iad.llnw.net
    199.108.194.41 host: abepsn-liv-gw04.planetside2.com

    pretty sure they are sony's...

I was just coming here to the forums to start a topic about this, I'm not sure what was done in the latest patch but I have lost serious fps during normal battles that I would have no problem with. I am having trouble participating in any of the battles that happen without dropping to 20fps and sometimes 10fps. I'm playing on Connery server and it is just unbearable, Sony needs to look into this I think they messed up their netcode or something because it is nearly unplayable for a lot of people.
