I find it strange that just the VR zone is down. (zone is what soe calls each continent, or place you can access via a warpgate terminal) Maybe instead of taking the whole game down they're doing it by zone now? It will be interesting to see where everyone goes when indar is down if this is the case.
VR was causing the locked equipment bug, so they've locked it. Remember, first rule of posting on forums is to read other posts to make sure your question hasn't been addressed.
There's a bug specifically related to visiting the VR room, so they've disabled it to prevent more players from experiencing said bug.
