Is infantry combat evolving to hipfire preference?

They can go a long way to fixing ADS by giving us ADS scopes that are actually accurate (other than the HSNV scope) problem is, as it stands now, any movement in ADS will move the graphic of the crosshair without affecting the center of the COF (always center screen). Often the difference is slight but at long ranges trying to track a moving target and manage recoil exaggerates the effect.

LA are particularly affected in that it is a completely different game playing with the HSNV since you always have an accurate sight picture (i.e. the crosshairs are always centered on the center of the COF- the center of the screen) that is not obscured by meaningless gun graphics. In ADS with a LA with any other scope and a lot of your movement will cause the gun graphics to obscure the center of the screen despite the fact that this is still (and is always) where you are actually firing.

Hipfire gives a perfectly accurate crosshair always centered on center screen, the largest FOV possible, the fastest movement speed, the crosshair also shows the size of the COF and (full of cheese) also turns red when you should shoot.

So yeah, if they fix the ADS sights so the are as accurate as hipfire crosshair and then take another look at the damage degredation and then you might have a worthwhile ADS system that is not instant fail to hipfire cowboy run and gun playstyles.

Yeah, I've found myself going sirius with adv laser sight on pretty much all classes. Hipfire + ADAD in and out of cover = easy win.
  3. Tristan

No you shut up and cower under my suppressive fire!
  4. asdfPanda

Agreed, it's mainly a choice between whether you hipfire more often or ADS more often. If you hipfire, go for laser sight, if you ads, go for foregrip, obviously.

    lol. VS in a nutshell.

The higher the ratio of hipfire/scopefire the better. Hipfire combat is more fun. :) My experience is that scopefire is better 95% of the time.

Yep, FPS makes all the difference, and hip fire and LDS are just tools and are both effective

We used to have long range infantry standoffs but I think that we've all learned not to park sunderers that far away anymore.

Also harassers may be a part of it. I saw a fury harasser kill the equivalent of two squads yesterday, completely destroying a push by foot.

I use a Nighthawk shotty or Mercy max so I guess I hipfire :D. I have a thermal sight on my shotty though. Added it for the lols but now I use it a lot at night because it is hard to see things. I actually aim with my shotgun a lot lately. hehe
  11. Aegie

Aiming in this game is joke- hipefire for easymode.

Foregrip lowers recoil. Laser sights lower CoF. If you are using a weapon with a preferential recoil then the lasersight is a better choice. Why get a attachment for something you can control over an attachment that is a flat out upgrade to the weapon?

Hipfire, Is only better when you are so close you won't be able to stay on target while ADS.

Also let's not forget the terribad scopes which makes ADS combat an absolute PITA in the first place. And at the same time we get ridicolously accurate hipfire, even while moving. ADS movement on the other hand comes with a very noticable random bullet deviation penalty. Add in base cof and bidirectional horizontal recoil on the vast majority of weapons and you get a very unenjoyable gameplay experience if you happen to prefer ADS based shooting mechanics.

As a TR I never really liked our scopes, I honestly prefer the ironsights without exception. When playing medic with the SABR-13 I find that im almost always ADSing even in short range scenarios (unless its within 1 meter).

I DO agree that short range combat, and therefore hipfire, its generally dominant in this game. This is made worse due to capture points being inside buildings. ADS combat DOES have its role, but its not as pronounced.

If you have played any red orchestra cityfight maps (Apartments, Grain Silo, Commissars House ect), that's what using a long range weapon feels like when capturing a base. The bolt action riflemen have to really nail their shots, work together, and do their best to keep the distance to survive against assaults with sub machine guns or semi-auto rifles. Its difficult, but not impossible and highly satisfying.

One way to change the current may be to give long range weapons significantly less damage dropoff, or a flat out buff to damage to reward landing shots. Putting capture points in the open may encourage vehicle/aircraft camping, so i'd be leery of that.

Some of the new hossin bases are fairly open, especially the underground portions. I want to say that those will be helpful, but we'll see.

    This x10.

First step to fix PS2 is to have ADS scopes that are not misleading- center of screen is always center of the COF but ADS graphics (aside from overlay scopes) do not adhere to this mechanic.

Hipfire is so easymode it is ridiculous- 100% accurate crosshairs that also tell you the size of the COF and turn red when you need to shoot.

ADS is so broken it is laughable- so you want to be more accurate? Here, we will take away the info about the size of the COF, take away the lolmode "shoot when this turns red" and the graphic for the sight will not match where the projectiles are actually aiming.

Garbage FPS mechanics in an MMO FPS means that you socialize all you want but if you want decent FPS gameplay you should go play just about anything else.

Whoa, I still ADS all the time, my point is that at the current infantry engagement ranges that weapons like the Jaguar, TRV, and MSW-R are perfectly capable of good ADS firing even with adv. laser sights.

You guys that never ADS are what I refer to as free XP as you attempt to close the gap with your SMGs.

There are certainly infantry engagements at distances where hipfire is not a good idea, my only point is that those ranges don't require or benefit from extremely accurate ADS'ing that you'd get from a T5 AMC with a compensator and foregrip, for example.

I'm not complaining, just making an observation. Since I've switched to the accurate hipfire weapons my performance has increased dramatically because they handle the CQC distances either amazingly well or good enough.

You guys are are getting a little crazy now. ADS is always better assuming you can aim on target.

Very close range going from the hip can better because it's hard to stay on them when they move right in front of you
  19. umbrellapower

Or you could just like to hipfire a lot more than he does. I'm like him; I prefer ADS in 90% of scenarios I find myself in, as I like knowing that my bullets are going to go in a much tighter cone than the huge-*** COF hipfiring gives you. The only time I rely solely on hipfiring is with either an SMG or Serpent/GD-7F with ALS. Even for guns like the TAR or Anchor with ALS, forget it. The COF is still way too big for guaranteed shot placement. Especially in CQC where actual TTKs do approach theoretical TTKs, I want my shots to land as accurately as possible.

Scopes in this game above 2x are just broken. To much recoil to use them for there intended purpose. Only real guns that can use higher then 2x scopes and not **** themselves a CQ range are in fact laser sighted low CoF weapons like SMG, slug shotguns, and some carbines.

There needs to be a recoil reduction for scopes that makes them infact dangerous at range and not just plink fire single shot weapons. They also need to get rid of the scope turn speed movement reduction over hipfire. Replace it with a player movement reduction based on level of magnification the scope has.
