Now I know that this idea has been suggested before, but the logic behind this is rock solid. Lets say there is a Vanguard in the distance, you are in range, his back is facing you, and he does not know that you are there. But, in compensating for drop, you lose sight of your target. Now aiming is now an educated guess. You take the shot, and miss. The Vanguard sees you and pomptly kills you. This has happened to me multiple times. The answer to this is simple, put the sights on the left side of the launcher. Give it a 1.35x holosight with the tick marks you see on the halberd. What are your thoughts?
The problem you're describing isn't that the reticle is on top of the launcher. The problem that you are describing is that iron sights have most of their bulk resting below the actual viewfinder, as seen here below. Due to drop calculations, at any range beyond spitting, you're aiming at the dorito of the Vehicle, slightly obscured by that bulk. anyway. Even if you asked for the iron sight to be on the side of the launcher, you'll be fighting with this view blockage. The solution you're looking for is to completely redesign the iron sight for the dumbfire launchers so that this bulky obstruction does not block one's view. Edit: At one point in this game's history, the iron sights for the dumbfire launchers actually was on top of the launcher! So, to aim down the sights, you had to put one end in your mouth and ...
I'll just leave this here. (also off to the side of the tube of course. it'll still fire out of the center of the camera anyways )
Another problem is that you hold the sight pretty close to your face. In real life this might lead to recoil cutting your face open, so most people hold it a little further back. This means that the iron sight doesn't block as much of your view, because you can sort of see around it. The RPG-7 sights for example: AT4 sights: The older M72 at least came with a clear-ish front sight: So maybe some kinda holosight?
That was what I was thinking. Like the 1x holosights we have now, but with the halberd (or bulldog) reticle design
That is part of the problem, but I was refering have the sight mounted horizontal to the tocket launcher.
