Infiltrators and problems.

Reposting this here in the hopes it will get better movement.

There are some significant problems with infiltrators right now. Some changes to propose.

    • Cloaking is... not useless, but absurdly easy to detect. When stationary you should literally be invisible - as in nothing renders, no shimmer, no ripple, nothing. Crouching and moving should be barely visible, normal movement should be a visible ripple (currently crouch/move and regular move are no different), and sprinting should be highly visible.
    • Render distance makes sniping suicide in major battles - the reduction in rendering distance due to server load, and the selective rendering it does even at closer ranges, means that you are unable to snipe from spots that a sane shooter would actually use. Air support has similar issues - only real fix for this is simply to make the game able to actually handle the numbers it's supposed to handle without artificially crippling itself.
    • Scout rifles are terrible. Even at medium range, which they're intended for, they're stupidly inaccurate even with a scope.
    • The current uncloak mechanisms and limitations are horribly designed. I'd normally expect that you can attack from cloak, but the cloak immediately breaks. Unfortunately, that's not the case. The first problem that causes is this: uncloaking makes a very loud, distinctive noise - and there's a significant delay between hitting the button to uncloak and actually being able to fire your weapon. With the extremely low TTK in this game, it's frequently long enough for someone to turn, find you, and kill you before you can finish him off with whatever gun you're using. The second problem is causes is if you have actually managed to infiltrate somewhere and are going to, you know, be an infiltrator and hack stuff, the uncloak sound immediately alerts everyone in earshot that there's an infiltrator nearby.
Additionally, I'd actually advocate that infiltrators need access to a jetpack like the light assault has. They fill similar roles in a lot of ways, and the lack of one really cripples the infiltrator, with the other limitations due to poor design. Jetpack capability would substantially help.
