Infiltrator capping is out of control

Sweet mother of all that is logical and seemingly readily apparent.
As an old timer from PS1 I never ceased to be amazed and appalled at the same time by the utter lack of point control on a consistent basis in PS2. I'm sure it applies across all factions...

Excuse me? That's one of the primary jobs of an Infiltrator. If you can't deal with Infiltrators doing this, then it is you who need to go back to playing WoW, where there are arbitrary rules to regulate the flow a well organized Battleground match.

Here in PlanetSide we control the flow of battle, and an Infiltrator contesting a point as a delay tactic is sound strategy. You need to rethink your presence in this game if you think that's a bad thing.

The only thing this tactic ruins is the false sense of security and accomplishment when you think you've won a fight. The fight's never over, and any captured point or captured facility is wide open to counter attack and recapture. Dealing with an Infiltrator who does this isn't really that difficult, either, if you just slow your zerg down and wait a minute or two before rolling onto the next base. Just stay behind while everyone advances and see if a point gets contested. Go back and resecure the point.

You are playing the wrong game if this is a problem for you.

did you guys think about o instead of complaining lets take action like lets stay 3 of us here until the next point is flipped? or maybe that was too advanced for your brain to think

Am I the only one who likes hunting infiltrators down and feels especially satisfied when I find and kill them.

Must be something to do with that whole invisible sniper instant kill thing.

#Respect for the butt hurt comment. :) When this is happening, you need your infs to deal with it. All you need is one or two - send a stalker to sit on the point, *just* out of range so it's not contested. As soon as it starts to flip, they creep in and kill the enemy inf. Works like a charm - the enemy is usually so invested in flipping the point that they stand their ground - if you're patient, you'll get them nearly every time. Best part is they usually don't come back.

I think the dark light was the wrong approach. It takes up a valuable equipment slot, and more or less ruins your day as an infiltrator anywhere, not just next to cap points. Before this, a single infiltrator could sit on a cap point more or less indefinitely, and it would take an entire squad shooting randomly to flesh them out. What needed to change was the ability of a stalker to cap a point while cloaked, such that a small group could sit behind a rock and prevent a player from recapping it, without any real way to know how many he was dealing with.

Another thing, while I'm here, hacked turrets and terminals should flip back or take damage or something, in fact I really think that turrets in particular shouldn't be hackable unless they are in contested territory, i.e. not secured. As the op says, it's just griefing and free xp, since some bases have dozens of hackable things, it's too much bother for most players to do. And it's not the kind of play style that is good for the game. Infiltrators trying to cap bases solo is one thing. Camping a vehicle terminal far from the action to kill the one dude every few minutes is stupid stat padding, and is simply toxic. Infiltrators are very powerful support, but too often they are encouraged to run off alone and play team deathmatch instead of helping their side win.

EMPS, flashlights, motion spotters. Fight fire with fire

Just go Stalker infiltrator, grab a Commie with a flashlight, sit on a Point. When infiltrator arrives, line up a headshot, kill.

If you cant find them, thats when you use the flashlight. Find them, kill them.

An EMP grenade works well too, its amazing how easy it is to find an uncloaked stalker.

Some great replies thanks guys for not being too hard on me! I do have to disagree with some of the replies though. A good Inf is not going to be taken down by mines at cap point entrances, besides, many bases have 3 or more entrances to a cap point. As someone who plays Engi, the anti-infantry turret is useless as a single cap defense, even in coordination with placed mines. It is effective (somewhat) when used side by side by the actual engi, but when left alone to defend a cap point its useless. Again most of what you guys are recommending takes actually sitting at a cap point.

Well then we have come to the crux of the problem. In a 3 cap base, sitting on one spot to defend against an Inf is useless since the other 2 points can be capped uncontested. YES in a small group you should have enough people to defend all 3 points, however most people play this game without being in a squad or organization. Trying to communicate "hey ill hold A if you hold B and C" in open chat is a fricking waste of time.

Anyways I can see some of your guys points about Inf ghost capping being an actual strategy to slow and disrupt the opposing factions. But lets be honest ok, most of the Inf's doing this stealth ghost capping are doing it because they can and they know its grief to the other players.

As for the flash light idea, nah. First off its a waste of a weapon slot and of certs. 2nd im not good enough to spot a Inf with a flash light, then engage and get the kill. By the time I spot an Inf with a flashlight he will have the jump on me and I am toast.

Grabbing another Inf is a strategy I have tried against other Infs doing ghost capping. Although I have gotten some kills against pretty raw low BR players, if the Inf is any good at all I get owned pretty fast. I just dont play the class enough to be any good at it.

So anyways im glad to see some of you do agree with me. I also learned some new strats and I will definitely use them tonight to try and kill me some greasy Infs.

    Peace :p the ******** disciple.

Yes it is annoying, but I've never had an infiltrator do anything more than slightly slow the advance on the next base.

Also, forcing two players to be on a point to cap would be a global change with serious consequences in order to combat an occasional and incredibly specific irritation. (I have gone in with a group to retake a point and been the last man standing on either side often enough that I would be really miffed if I couldn't take back the point afterwards.)

[IMG], [IMG], [IMG], and u can use stalker cloak to hunt them[IMG]

Usually I look for obvious spawn points then I look for hacked terms. I look at number of players in area. Abandoned vehicals. most of the time they will take the shortest route to point. Its nice when there is 3 points and only one of them. the obvious pattern some use like A B C... Have to get better at setting up a good ambush.

I used to have the same feeling about this. It forced me to start learning to use the dam infiltrator stalker vs stalker.

if you want to be a real @ss, scatter some AV mines around the cap point room. these sneaky decappers usually won't bother shooting them.
so go switch to infil yourself and when you see the point getting decapped throw an EMP nade at the room ;)
mines (and infil) go boom XD

or you could just camp as stalker and wait for them :)
  14. Moridin6

emps arent Supposed to set of your own mines.. not that it doesnt happen
  15. Liewec123

ah, i haven't actually tried it, just thought it would be a hilarious way to kill a stalker :D
  16. Corezer

Pull a sunderer and park it at one of the points, get that point, get another, redeploy to the first one and pop the guy in the face, that works for heavy and medic.

if you are an LA, just chase, you will get to the points faster and eventually catch up to them playing track and field.

    Infil? use mines

    engineer? mines
  17. PlanetBound

Like someone said, take their base.
  18. Rebelgb

I tried to play today and after the free xp weekend the amount of players on server was pretty weak. I tried to keep a couple of bases but even with a 4v2 odds high level INF's were able to take and hold bases. Ok blame it on superior skill and these guys were definitely really good. But bottom line is I logged off and found something else to do with my day. Stealth has ruined a LOT OF MMOs, look it up. I warned against these changes when they made them. Hate to be a new player, id give up in a day.
  19. Rebelgb

    Tried this. Epic fail. Sorry.
  20. OldMaster80

Get an Engineer, drop some mines. Put a darklight on an auto shotgun or smg then teach the infiltrator a nice lesson he won't forget ;)
