infantry weapon sounds - toy guns

    Hi there,

I have the most of my playtime on VS. Now after reaching BR100 and not caring about directives I decided to start playing TR.
Now I understand that the Vanu guns have their own "plasma firing pewpew sounds" but as I play TR I have the feeling that many guns sound a little "weak". Just a few examples. The battlerifle AMR-66 sounds like a toy gun. It´s not that it should sound like a nuclea explosion but have a little bit more "bang".
When I use the RAMS .50M I always check if I have a silencer attached after the first shot. I´m not a specialist in weapons but I know from various videos that a .50 cal (12.7mm) is not a "silent" gun. This thing should make a hell of a bam!
The same goes for some vehicle guns. The basilisk sounds like someone throwing pebbles on a cardboard box. It´s a 20mm heavy machine gun...

Yeah, not a big deal I know. And there are other weapons that have good sounds (imho). But I think a little bit more power in the acoustics of some weapons could make the feeling on the battlefield a little bit better. (and maybe make the silencer a bit more worthy)

Sounds and visual weapon models are awful in this game. They've made improvements, but its still very bad.
Battlefield series put this game to shame.

Well, again, as has been mentioned in a million other threads, this is the 30th century or so.

Who knows what a .50 would sound like that far into the future.

I get there needs to be some suspension of disbelief, but I cut the devs some slack here.

The problem has always been the weird modern/futuristic blend the game uses.

They should have skipped the modern references and just went futuristic.

Still, all this said, they did a sound pass a while back, but they didn't do a really good job.

I dont like how they neutered the TMG-50.

Used to have bass to it, making it sound like the heaviest hitting TR LMG.
Now it sounds more like rain hitting a metal can...

    Would pay 7$ for a TMG-50 "voicepack".

SVA-88 is horrible about this. Great gun statistically, but literally sounds like a kid's toy. Polaris is not far from it.
  6. TheKhopesh

    I agree.

Military weapons make one hell of a bang, and the game would be better off if they had louder firing sounds.

The basilisk alone should have something similar to the firing audio of the Ranger, not plonk plonk sounds.

Battlefield 5 will beat the game in it's current state, and their going to ruin the series.
  8. SpartanPsycho

I want explosives sounding like warfare.
  9. vsae

Look at BF2142, its already here for a long time.

    Put suppressor on SVA-88.
You get the best water spray gun for pool party.

Have you heard the eidolon? An airsoft rifle sounds more badass than that thing.

even Men of War puts this game to shame in the audio side of the house. And that is a Russian company WWII RTS. It was one of the 1st things that sold me on the game when my uncle showed it to me. The Audio, the guy in the video fired up his sherman and it sprang to life more like a tank engine rather then....these gocarts we get in PS2...the Sunderer literally sounds like its running on a battery...Vanguard sounds a bit better but still...And MoW gun sounds are pretty good to. Mods make some nice changes, but Men of War is awesome....

there's not really hope left. i dont know what they did to their audio department, maybe they fired them and only one guy is left that unwillingly takes care of the audio for new stuff and thats it. promising new audio effects went literally silent very quickly. pretty strange because it started off promising when they did the sound revamps for VS and TR guns, and they are STILL bad:rolleyes: there are so many sounds to improve though, NC guns, NS guns, vehicle weapons, etc

that said, if you enjoy great sounds with a great battle atmosphere.... dont play PS2

agreed that the sounds (as well as gun models) can use an overhaul.

but I'd imagine it lower in priority to some other items.

If we had that, I think we'd all lose our hearing in about 15 seconds of playing the game. :p I don't even think my computer speakers are even capable of making a loud enough noise to approximate firing a gun.
  16. SpartanPsycho

I love it. Sorry had to say that.

This. So much this. The TR sniper rifles need to have a nice "crack" sound to them, like the NC snipers, but more bass as well. A .22 sounds better than my RAMS. That needs to change.

Ya. The Silenced TR weapons do not sound silenced at all, and without a silencer the carbine sounds almost identical to the LMG. GatGat.

Theres a severe lack of ricochet sounds also, I only ever hear 2 bullet impact sounds, the ground/dirt/rock/tree thwack sounds and the crystal/shield impact noise. Ricochets and flyby bullet sounds would go a long way in adding to immersion.

Whos tree do we bark up for sounds?

I kinda miss the old TRV sound. That thing had a nice loud sound that really sounded like it was firing a stream of hot lead down range... now not so much.

I bet the art guys could find the time. Its the programmers who always have tons of work to do.
