In terms of Game play nothing seems to of happened in the last two years

DISCLAIMER: I have nearly no English Ability And this may give you Ebola from reading.

I just want to make this post just to say, although I am a mainly solo player and a fair few changes have been made squad play; like vehicle spawning and UI. Nothing has really happened in terms of changing the Meta, the Two similar game modes and general gun play.

I'm not saying that any of these things at their core are bad, I'm just saying that they could be better than they are. Like what happened to the cool new tank from Ns that we've seen the tech plant's control room, The continental lattice, A fix to the awful spawn camping problem, The FULL Resource Revamp and even other cool Stuff suggested on the forums like Mechs/BFR and Faction Specific Flashes.

Gun play hasn't really changed either. No bull pups (the ns-pdw doesn't count), no cool guns apart from the under-used lasher and a lot of copy guns that haven't been changed (Gr-22/Carnage, Anchor/Gd-22s, Flare/Ursa, Orion/Msw-r, etc.....) Plus nothing when it comes to faction uniqueness/Traits. Any good players can jump Faction to Faction and feel no change in character or handling of the guns.

The only thing that changed a bit was the maps. They were given a little flair to them like the tree bases on Hossin and some bases in Amerish. Though most still have the same problem on them, spawn camping and lack of cover. resulting in getting shot in the back a fair bit and people surviving on one piece of bad cover. Plus the king of hill and Control point bases are getting really boring and I feel no satisfaction from winning a base.

The lattice system didn't really do anything but slightly eliminate a small issue of not knowing where to go (which to most wasn't hard) and ghost capping. Again Though because the resource revamp hasn't appeared yet, so allot of people can't see the point and want the old system back.

Maybe when the PS4 version is out we will see more updates.
  3. Nexus545

If I had a penny for every time....

But no. I don't feel the game has changed at all except for lattice, the lattice system changed the meta a lot but not enough in my opinion.

    Your English is very good.

No significant changes because the devs have been trying to keep up with the crying.
  5. ronjahn

He's right about core gameplay. Capture mechanics haven't changed other than a few SCUs being added to farmy bases.

When it comes to other parts of the game I disagree. There has been a ton of UI changes, directives and implants have been added, Hossin and the Valk have been added, harassers have been added, an uncountable number of guns and tools and abilities have been added.

Have they lost sight of the roadmap? yes, but development of the game still hasn't stopped and new features and abilities are added pretty much monthly.

There's been tons of changes. You can't claim there's been no changes, and then dismiss all the changes just because you don't care about them specifically.

i have to disagree one this one
when i started my character was TR
after playing to BR 80 i started an new character as VS where i found an slight improvement of the weapons
and when i got to BR 100 i started an NC character
what can i say, the power of the weapons are incredible
faster TTK if you can handle the weapons
the change on the guns are very notable
for the rest i have to agree with your opinion
  8. HadesR

    Been loads of changes ..

Now whether all of them have moved the game forward instead of backwards is a more worthy debate ..

In terms of peoples over reliance on the HA class and the half baked Resource changes .. Overall I think some aspects of the game have gone backwards ..

The Lasher is not underused, the Jackhammer is used the least of the Faction Specific Heavy weapons.

You know what really hasn't changed? The leading faction in PD2. The World Domination Series was over a year ago. Back then the Vanu won on nearly all the servers and the NC lost on nearly all the servers. Fast forward to today and the Vanu win the most alerts and NC win the least alerts.

I think Sony started off wrong and until they scrap things they won't get anywhere. If you've ever watched motocross and somebody hits a section of 'whoops' wrong it usually ends with them trying to continue and having a bad time as every consecutive bump gets worse until they have a spectacular accident....or they stop trying to go hard and recover.
Sometimes you have to step back and rethink and I feel like maybe the snails pace development means that they are and their rethink is the PS4....that or they're about to flop so hard it will be comical.

Is dicking around on reddit and twitter the best plan?
Was releasing a half-baked game with placeholder bases and no meta-game a good idea?
Has using misleading descriptions on at least 2 separate occasions worked well(implants, some event last year...that massive battle event with the massively overhyped grind rewards?
Has trying to copy a game called Battlefield...a household name retaining popularity via constantly making new versions with new maps but with mediocre gameplay that fails to hold an audience been wise?
Was releasing a game on a dated game engine and chasing away a large crowd before doing SOME modernization smart?
Was making camos even more ugly than before a good way to make money?
Has re-balancing in a way that feels bipolar even by free to play standards worked out?

I don't feel like SoE is making progress, they've changed many things but at the same time I rarely play for the same reasons that none of my friends ever play and those reasons have existed since the beta. It has the depth of counterstrike with all the annoying gameplay from Battlefield 3 but with less quality(game engine, server quality and general polish) and a developer that is busy working on a console version instead of fixing things. Sure, it appeals to some people....but so do certain interactions with goats...it's hard to make a business off a niche.

Some major changes in the last 2 years off the top of my head:
    1. Hossin
    2. Harasser/Valkyrie
    3. Tons of new weapons for all classes
    4. New tools (medic shield, infil deployable detector, engie spitfire)
    5. Lattice
    6. Point capture mechanics (as in remember how you had to have 6 people sit on a point?)
    7. Tons of base redesigns and continent revamps, continents are very different than they were 2 years ago.
    8. Alerts
    9. Squad deployment into vehicles (namely valk, galaxy, sunderer that isn't deployed).
    10. Much tighter beacon deployment areas.

There's a lot more, each one of these affected gameplay, some in smaller ways than others, you might even argue in some cases that it was better before for whatever reasons, but you can't deny the game is different than it was at release.

Hope we won't be needing another 2 years to see all this. And if that, we'd still have players playing it.
  14. pnkdth

Gunplay: ES specfic guns, revamps to better reflect faction traits, new guns, auraxium weapons, new turrets.

Bases: New continent, more varied bases, the addition of shields/SCUs. Lattice put a stop of the horribly annoying ghost capping. Then we got cont locks. Walls might be annoying at times but when I think back to how armor just hammered bases into submission, they're a good enough trade-off.

Then we got new vehicles and vehicle updates as well, but since I'm primarily a ground pounder I haven't noticed much here.

In the upcoming patches we're already seeing more tweaks to weapons and vehicles coming up(on PTS). Hopefully this means, while the tech and coders focus on optimisation, the rest are looking at the stuff already in the game.

Don't mean to sound like a nihilist but, this game has made very few progress meta-wise. New guns and new vehicles are all fine and dandy but still have almost nothing to do with meta. We need a reason to fight. Last time I checked this wasn't 'Farmside 2'. We need reasons to share with our recruits why it is a necessity throwing themselves into this meat-grinder etc. Game needs depth, period!

I keep hearing people talking about a meta game but no one ever specify what it would be, or simply come with a game mechanic as their suggestion. Let's say we get the resource revamp and bases benefits. Players would still cry for a meta game. The problem is, or atleast a large part of it, is that the majority of players does not care about a meta. Everything is certs, certs, certs.

For me, the current "meta", is to counter larger numbers or come up with creative ways of dealing with my opponents. That said, the second you suggest doing something other than throwing numbers you get taunted and made fun of as a "wannabe general", "tryhard", or whatever. It isn't like I am giving orders either, I'm just suggesting things to help us push back the enemy.

So what the game needs isn't a meta, because I do not think the modern gamer can handle it, we need new game mechanics so we can keep the Skinner Box-generation of gamers interested. I mean, just look at the discussions where people suggest bases have up and downside. They get furious at the mere concept of the enemy being able to get an advantage due to capturing X or Y bases/cont.

So the question is, what would it take to give us a reason to fight? If we're serious about making a change in this area we need to start getting specific. Certainly not, as some PS1 does here, simply say "do like PS1" like it is a magical solution. It needs to work with PS2.
  17. vsae

Planetside not only havent improved metawise, its actively degrading in this area.
Last time I played, the sole reason to play the game was to get directive rewards and auraxiums. This selfish meta is contrary of what we should have. Plus they removed territory based resources in their shallow Resource revamp "Phase 1" which is really the only phase there will ever be.

Also they're still afraid of defendable bases, aka where defender dont have to run for the point five times longer than an attacker.

Anyway, I'm glad there are other great games on a market.

You are totally right, they have done absolutely nothing to improve the actual game play and objectives for 2 years.

And I think the other thread - PSA] Higby on twitter: epic buffs coming! is all you need to know about this title.

    - PPA and Saron getting less CoF and maybe heat mechanic.
    - Marauader getting burst fire, buffed fire rate (+100%) and bigger mags.
    - Enforcer getting better fire rate and different reload mechanics.
    - Vanu Directive reward weapons getting 3/5 more rounds.
    - GOD SAW getting 670m/s velocity, foregrip, compensator, usual reload but 65 bullets mag.

This is what they think is important and is deemed to be 'epic'.

2 1/2 years of TDM in tiny maps in a bigger map and these are 'epic' changes.

I think the evidence is clear, the developers are happy with the 'game' as it is. It is clearly already the successor to chess with the deep, strategic game play and objectives that currently exist and the only possible way to improve it - if that is even possible - is to just tweak the pieces.

And that is all they have done for 2 years of development - tweak the pieces.

So I think pretty much the answer is - game play and objectives - job done.

You just have to be thankful that this small number of individuals is confined to one developer and that you can still get quality non-early access titles or at the very least play old games with content, otherwise gaming would be dead.

Or at the very least not moved on much more than Soldier of Fortune 2 from 2002.
  19. Captain Kid

    Certs.
For every, or some specific, owned base your empire gets a small percentages of extra certs. More for big bases. A crap load more for a captured continent.
  20. MotionBlured

Why do we need a reason to fight, beyond the one we already have? Shoot them, because they will shoot you. Directives are just an arbitrary reason to shoot them with a different weapon, and they aren't meta by definition. People talk about meta, but few have any idea what it means.
