Improving framerate

    Hi, during the past few months the framerate that I experience has been dropping further and further, I used to get 30-40 FPS but now I am almost always below 20. This sucks. The hardware is still the same and the graphic driver is up to date.
    So now I'm curious, what do YOUR graphics settings in Planetside 2 look like if you go for the best possible framerate? Which boxes do you tick? At which levels are your quality settings? What is your visual range?

    Thanks in advance for replying.

    turn shadows low or off i gained lot. you should write down your rig specs

    My system and settings are in my signature.

    Well, thanks guys, I've now deactivated shadows and flora completely and it has indeed helped.
    One thing I am curious about: I read somewhere (and I'm too busy with med school to look for it) that some settings can improve performance when set to high or ultra because of the involvement of the GPU and because setting them low means that data (textures?) has to be compressed first. Is there something to this? I tried different settings with the textures, but it didn't help so I'm back on low now.
    (I'm using a laptop, ACER Aspire V3-571G).

    I use a laptop as well and had similar decreasing frame rate problems over time.
    Simple answer ... your overheating. To prove it...remove the cover of your laptop then turn the game on...if you see an immediate increase in frames, it is because your video card is able to get cooler air much easier than before....your fans are getting dirty over time.
    So Tip #1 ...Clean the fan.
    Tip #2 ... Elevate your laptop so air can cool the bottom of your laptop easier or buy a cooling pad with fans....
    Tip #3 ... As your video card heats up, it likely slows down your GPU to cool it off. The settings can be played with using overclocking software, because you can set the temperature limits that tell your video card when to slow down.
    However....this increased heat will hurt the lifespan of your video card.
    Tip #4 ... Check your power options to see if they are set to high performance.
    Tip #5 ... Software helpers, online look up BES software, run this program at the character screen and target the planetside.exe {32 or 64} and set to 1% decrease. This keeps your CPU from hitting 100% all the time and caps it at 99% and creating log files/error records which causes additional usage on the CPU.
    GPU-Z is a program that helps track your Video card temps and usage...this info is also available in the overclocking software EVGA PrecisionX software that you can use to set your temperature set point for throttling....careful playing with it, you can fry your videocard....

    I've always been using a cooler pad with external fans.
    The power options have always been set to high performance.
    Opening the thing and cleaning the inside, sure.
    The overclocking stuff... nope, not gonna do that.

    One thing people always ignore is the render distance which the minimum default is 500 and can be even reduced further via users options ini > set it to 200 or 300 that should give you a little bit more fps boost. I used to be on a acer aspire as well and thats the way I did it. Turned everything down to lowest and edited users options ini accordingly.

    You might also want to edit the prerendered frames via nvida control panel some people claim that it improves smoothness but will inc input lag http://community.futuremark.com/for...a-Driver-Settings-Maximum-pre-rendered-frames

    also play with 32bit.exe version of the game

    There are actually laptops that can run Planetside 2?

    Lies, all lies.... I don't believe any of it!

    If you know how to edit useroptions.ini here's a config for max fps.

    [Display]
    Mode=Fullscreen
    FullscreenMode=Fullscreen
    FullscreenRefresh=0
    FullscreenWidth=1366 //Change this to your resolution
    FullscreenHeight=768 //Change this to your resolution
    WindowedWidth=1366 //Change this to your resolution if you run the game in windowed mode
    WindowedHeight=768 //Change this to your resolution if you run the game in windowed mode
    Maximized=0
    RenderQuality=0.500000 //Lower=more fps but going below 0.5 makes the game look like it's 8bit and 0.7 is okayish

    [Rendering]
    OverallQuality=-1
    GraphicsQuality=1
    TextureQuality=3 //Set to 0 for ultra if you have a good gpu, low impact on performance
    ShadowQuality=0
    LightingQuality=1
    EffectsQuality=1
    TerrainQuality=1
    FloraQuality=4
    ModelQuality=1
    RenderDistance=1000.000000 //500 or lower if you play only infantry
    Gamma=0.000000
    VerticalFOV=55 //Lowering it can increase performance but limits your field of view
    ParticleLOD=0
    ParticleDistanceScale=0.650000 //Can set to 0 for more fps but it will disable many particle effects like tracers
    FogShadowsEnable=0
    VSync=0
    AO=0
    MaximumFPS=120
    UseLod0a=1 //Couldn't find much info about this and didn't notice any difference in fps, 1 should be better
    BloomEnabled=0
    MotionBlur=0
    Smoothing=0 //0=off 1=on You can experiment with this, in a recent update devs said 1 could be better

    [Terrain]
    RenderFlora=Off

    Hey would you have a similar config for true ultra? I read somewhere that those exist but could not find one anywhere. Is simply setting the game to ultra in the settings enough?
