Currently when air is impacted by other air / explosions there is no transfer of momentum. A Gal rams a liberator and simply flies straight through it with the only exception being if the gal hit it with it's wings. A Tank shell hits a Liberator and it just stand there like the shell hit a brick wall (whether wing or core hit) My suggestion is to add a transfer of momentum around explosions or when ramming other aircraft. The Gal hitting the liberator should have to recover from the impact and the Lib getting hit by the tank shell should have to do the same. Also, ESFs getting Flaked should have a flinch or turbulence to deal with similarly due to flak being explosive (probably less on Libs and Gals due to their mass). I'm hoping this mechanic will make flying feel more like floating rather than it's current state of simply driving in a 3D space.
No it wouldn't. If it did, they wouldn't be able to run the game now. There is already plenty of physics interaction between all vehicles, OP is suggesting that damage sources be included, which would actually require less processing power overall, then for the velocity of aircraft to change more drastically than it does currently.
Still looking for feedback on this from ESF pilots. How do you think it will affect your gameplay? Would you feel like this was a nerf? I don't play ESF (other than the occasional GAL RAM session for fun) so I'm not sure if there is something larger I am missing with this suggestion.
I do some ESF piloting and one thing I hate is fighting libs, ESFs going against libs is kind of like if you put a heavy tank turret on a lightning and then told a harasser to go take it down, if you face it head on you will die, if you try to do a hit and run it will chase you and you will die, if you get too close it will ram you and you will die. Only way you are besting him is if his gunners are crap or you have a couple of buddies to help. But to answer your question, I'd like to see libs take MAJOR damage from ramming ESFs, my reaver is not some little ATV, this is a several thousand pound machine, yet a lib can ram right through me and take like 25% damage from it, ramming an ESF should cripple the lib and send it out of control. HOWEVER, I do understand that this could be abused, for instance it would be VERY easy to just take my little reaver and go on kamakazi runs trying to kill libs, they couldn't stop me before I hit them, they couldn't get out of the way. Its a tough situation all around.
I would like to see this. The only thing that came to my mind that shouldn't push aircraft are the AA flak cannons, those would make it impossible to fly once hit and that plus lag = 99% Death.
