I'm Not Downloading Another 4GB Patch

This is the second 4GB patch in under 2 months. World of Warcraft, a much bigger game than PS2, manages to go months without patching, and when they do it's usually 500mb or less. Guild Wars 2, a modern game like PS2, has only had maybe 1GB worth of patches in the last 2 months, and less than 3GB since AUGUST. 8GB in under 2 months, especially considering the number of bugs being introduced, is unacceptable.

Seriously, fix your development process. Do smaller patches, use a test server, don't release major patches on weekends, and have some damn pride in your game.

    more bandwidth for us then.
    bai.
  3. velourfog

Plenty of bandwidth for you and the other 14 people playing.

It is pretty stupid to download all the maps again because some buildings were changed.

It could be worse though *cough*relic*cough*

I wonder what would happen if you only had to download the areas of the map that got changed instead of the whole thing all over again? I assume there would be some terrain bugs connecting the areas, with the weird way computers tend to work.

Yeah, because clearly no one plays this game.

They basically retouched every single facility in the game to make it better. Yes, you're going to have to redownload a bunch of stuff. Get over it.

Also if you checked the Download itself it seemed to contain a lot of info for the Next Cont as well

While I feel bad for people who have bandwidth caps, 4 gigabytes is not that large. Took me an hour or two to download it last night on my relatively slow 10 megabit per second connection. In the meantime, I doubt that geographic changes can be made without a full re-download, or they would have done it already. Likely this is because a partial redownload would mess with load and streaming times, the way they've built their engine. Unless you don't want any new continents or improved base layouts, there is no solution besides complaining to your ISP about their stupid bandwidth cap.

Incremental patching would help me a great deal as my internet service has an hourly bandwidth allowance during peak times, that limit me to downloading no more than 1gb per hour. If i exceed 1gb in any given hour(peak time), the internet speed is reduced by 75%, and this is a 10mb connection.

That said, it's just a matter of watching what i download and ensure i download at a slower rate to ensure a cap is avoided. I grabbed an app called NetLimiter yesterday for the patch and had it download over a period of six hours. Yes it took a while, but that's what you gotta do if you're using an ISP(or internet package) that makes such restrictions on downloads.

The patch has made the game unplayable for me right now, but i'd happily download it all again if i could go back to playing on the previous build.

Took me about 15 hours on my 1 mbps connection.

WoW also has over 90% of it's game world go relatively unused/untouched by the majority of the playerbase. They level, and then sit in the max level zones/capital cities.

Crownside 2 jokes aside and how we are mostly stuck on Indar due to population levels, the entire game world of Planetside 2 is viable for play by any character, not just people that are "leveling."

The code could be better condensed (and it sounded like there was some of that in this patch over the pre-existing version), but that's a constant process and they have to focus on keeping the entire game world functional instead of 90% of the population only visiting 5% of the world.

I'd be curious about Team Fortress 2. I swear every other day I open Steam that game is doing another 100 meg update.
  12. HerpTheDerp

Don't worry, 10Mbps is apparently "relatively slow"
  13. Dtswiss

Took me about 15 minutes to download ps2 4 gb patch which isn't that bad but I was doing about 5MB/s
  14. Calahagus

Holy **** do you people have a potato for a router or something? Jesus that's not even that much. Sorry you can't put up with downloading 4GB to keep playing your free game.
  15. Vertabrae

So this game uses bigger updates than WoW, which has been out for how many years? Obviously you didn't play WoW when it first launched. They had some massive updates that first year. As PS2 gets older, you will see update size get smaller. At least until something huge like a new cont or something like that comes out. At least here you don't have to play $50 for each new add on.
  16. Vladimer

Took me about an hour or two to download it. Had it in the background so not sure on the exact time in minutes. Game development involves adding new content and fixing existing issues. That ... oddly enough requires re-downloading files you might have in the game directory.

I'd rather one larger download then 500mb every week. Tech test & beta was like that and it can get a bit annoying some days.
  17. ArmedGoose

Sure you will - if you want to continue playing.
If not... well, guess then it is goodbye for you.
  18. R3sp0nse

Lol, it took me 15 minutes to download that patch on my 100Mbps line. Perhaps you should get an Internet upgrade
  19. Xind

So your complaint is these patches are packed with so much win you can't handle the sheer girth of them?

You want maybe I should hook up Doom 2 on your computer to save space?
  20. Keiichi25

Some of it was sound and new models added, which its content will be 'beefy' because added content will have graphic and texture files and sounds for the various qualities people will want.
