"If it's possible to do, it's valid".

As someone said earlier on the thread, the F2P nature makes this approach have limited success. Anyone serious about using tactics like this will have no issue creating multiple accounts, and methods that would limit this would probably do more harm to legitimate users.

A simple no-deploy zone should be enough.

They'll just make extra Accounts to get around that
  3. HannibalBarca

There is such a thing as an IP ban.

I am fully aware of the limitations and problems with IP banning. Nevertheless it has its place when used appropriately.

SOE have a hard enough time controlling hackers because SOE are so bad at it. Do you think they will be able to also control griefers who IP and HWID spoof as well?
  5. ExarRazor

if its possible to do, then its valid, huh?

by that logic, exploiting the game, since its possible, is ok?

hacking the game, since its possible to do, is valid?

    forget TF2

planetside 1 figured this **** out over a decade ago.

yet more proof higby doesn't know **** about game design
  6. Figment

And that's why we warned SOE to use a font with different I (capital i) and l's.

    Anyway, some workarounds:
    • Map -> Redeploy
    • Map -> set offensive/defensive request
    • Place Sunderer-AMS in warpgate
    • Place spawn beacon at other side of door exit if possible
    • Deploy on squad leader
    • Instant Action
Still need a detail mechanic: spawn tube deconstruction option (press action key in spawn tube to deconstruct, akin to redeploy without the wait).

I think that if they make it more difficult for griefers then some griefers will go away.

The griefers/cheaters aren't some elite cadre of hackers. They are 12yo script kiddies. What percentage do you think would be able to get around an IP ban? If 90% of them give up then that would be a massive success.

People should stop saying "teh griefers will just make another account!" as if making another account is some kind of LOLIWIN move.

Some players play that way. If it's available, and they're not regulated out of doing it, they believe it's fair game. There is no such thing as 'cheap' or 'noob' or 'no skill ' or 'unsporting'. To them, getting the kill is all that matters; they neither care for your respect or having a good firefight or challenge. These players will always play the Class of the Month, Weapon Pwnage of the Month, etc.

I play by a different way: Sporting play. I'm not desperate for points or achievements because I don't care. XP and Certs? They flow in like water as I do as I always do in a game; support my team and play to win. I don't have to worry about XP.

This gives me the ability to forego lock on stupid weapons, and add the extra challenge and satisfaction in using higher skilled weapons, or unorthodox ways of using weapons or vehicles. Do other people care? Not really. Some do. I've met them. I think they're cool because they think the way I do.

And you know what? We kill just as many enemies and get the same or more XP, because we are more skilled. We feel good about our time put in, because our kills aren't cheap, or nasty, or dirty, or blatantly disrespectful of other players.

We are a dying breed though. Old school gamers. Unite. Modern gamers suck :D (Please don't flame me)

It already exists, just put a slide out of the warpgate!

In the mean time, AMS sundy just outside, probably rack up the points with it too.
  10. GhostAvatar

Some will go away, that is true. But as shown here, you only need a few of them to able to grief hundreds.
  11. Kosetzu

There is also a thing called MAC ban. Every computer has a UNIQUE ID that you can block which they can't just renew.

Having to resort to such a lame tactic with engineer turrets (or any other kind of disruptive gameplay) is rather sad though... Sometimes it can be difficult to see the difference between an accident and the intentional harassment, but things like this should just result in a ban... They don't even deserve a temporary one.
  12. HannibalBarca

Just report them. I believe SOE can remove many of them permanently and that is better than nothing.

Thanks to the people earlier who posted tips on reporting garbled names.

Every network card has a unique MAC address. You can buy a new one for about $10. You're right in principle, but systems like this need to rely on more than just MAC alone. One advantage of IP banning is that most people have no control over their public facing IP address. It is set by the ISP.
  13. Kosetzu

Do you really think greifers will pay $10 every time they get banned? That's going to become rather expensive to keep greifing. Quite a few has dynamic IPs so they can just go reset their router and get a new IP. Range banning will affect all the legit players so they can't really do that to stop the few who abuse game mechanics on those IPs. Just having a credit card confirmation or something to make an account would go a long way, but I can see that it will turn off a lot of people from actually trying out the game.

Limiting same server, multiple characters on different factions is not the way to go either imo. I have all factions on one server, yet I never abuse them, grief or anything. I don't even change characters when I feel I'm facing a wall and can't do anything on that faction. I do enjoy playing them all, sometimes just go try and find people from my outfit on the other faction to kill :p
  14. MGP

They don't need to. There are tons of software that allows you to hide and/or forge your MAC address. Heck, my DSL router even got a built-in feature of swapping MAC address.
  15. huller

So, we are denied the use of our warpgate and that is perfectly fine with you?

Also, whomever did this was a coward who should be banned for mass griefing.
  16. JokeForgrim

before GU01 I was bug testing with a friend at 4am. We figured out that you could block the spawn tubes with 2 mana turrets. Filed a bug report and destroyed the turrets.

They patched that, now you cant deploy turrets close enough to LITERALLY spawn trap people. Would have figured they would have sorted out the doorways too.

Honestly I would rather spawns are a no deploy area for turrets/mines/c4 and grenades (would help with the BR1 who press G by accident and kill 5 friendlies), also the many "pro's" taking up half/all a doorway so they can camp with the tip of their AV turrets through the shield while the facility slowly caps around them.
  17. Frosty The Pyro

doing that is against the rules and can get em banned, but in the meantime, take your own turret and put it infront of em, use your turret like a step to get over their turret.

Redeploy would not have given them access to the Warp gate vehicle terminals. If you had of read more of this thread you would have noticed that was brought up as a point of issue. Where they to deply and then Flash back to the warpgate to get things like Heavy tanks and galaxy drop ships?

Op made these points so I guess a quote is in order: @ you NUKABAZOOKA
  19. Zotamedu

You should read the thread again. The problem was organising galaxy drops when you cannot easily get to the galaxy spawns. Then there was the problem of pulling Prowlers when you cannot get out of the warp gate spawn. You solutions do not actually solve the problems the original poster had. So next time, try reading the first post. That way you may avoid looking silly.

What do telephone lines have to do with the internet? I haven't had a telephone line in many years!
    This isn't the 90s!
