First off the bases, facilities, warp gates and everything else you guy's created is absolutely perfect! But I possibly have a cool idea for you guy's. What if ya'll made some cool looking military personnel (Male & Female) that could occupy bases under each factions control. If a faction controls a base, personnel from that faction would populate that base. By 'populate' I mean that I don't see them doing nothing more than walking around, tapping on consoles, guiding aircraft landings, whatever. Which isn't much but could very well enhance the sense of 'immersion' in game. I would leave all the fighting up to the players which may give them the feel that they are actually being supported by a massive war machine. I would even make it possible for players to interact with the NPC's at a very limited degree. Here are some expanded ideas based off of having base personnel : - Evacuation 'When a capture point is taken or maybe even a generator overloaded, an alarm should sound and all personnel (NPC's) at that base would immediately evacuate the base and head to a secure location.' - War Crimes 'Make soldiers be more responsible by making it a crime to outright murder those poor NPC's when capturing a base. You can possibly kill a few of them and get away with a few warnings but if you start getting trigger happy the player should receive some kind of penalty which will make them think twice about committing an act of genocide.' - Prisoners Of War 'If an opposing faction takes over a base within a certain time limit then they should be able to take those NPC's who didn't make it out as prisoners of war. On this idea I was thinking of something along the lines of a point system. Then again, it would be great fun trying to free those POW's from a detention center somewhere.' - Treason 'If a player kills an NPC from his own faction, that player should receive an immediate penalty because in general NPC's should be very good at avoiding combat as they are always stationed at secure locations on the map. Although the player should still remain free to make their own choices.' - Caravan 'While traversing the roads of PS2 you may run into NPC caravans carrying supplies or whatever to nearby installations. The NPC's stay within their factions territory as to avoid combat zones. This sets a great stage for raids/defending on supply lines and such.' - Guard 'If a player/squad sneaks onto a base without being detected by another player but an NPC detects him/her then that NPC will sound an intruder alert which will send some kind of notification to all the players/squads (like an SOS) in the area.' - Stealth 'I would make it so that a player could incapacitate, stun, take down an NPC with non lethal force thus avoiding war crimes when dealing with enemy NPC's.'
I'll be honest.. I'm not really intrigued by this. Its not a MMORPG.. so I'm not really here for the immersion factor of a living breathing world. And believe me, I've done RP in MMORPGs in the past. Seems like a lot of mechanics for little benefit. And some annoying changes to flow of combat. Having to avoid shooting non-coms? Shouldn't be there to begin with.
It'd be cute, but as already stated: A waste of resources. I don't my computer's resources being wasted rendering what basically amount to "creeps." Creeps are just what you've described: Fauna or people, that just move around and provide a sense of something real happening. Those birds you see in the sky? Those are creeps. They're cool, but the reason they're the ONLY creeps in the game is because they're essentially 2D sprites rendered from VERY far away. What you're talking about is rendering creeps as graphically complex as the players themselves, and THAT is a waste. Sorry to tell you that.
I think this is a cute idea, but as people have said not worth a trade in resources. That said some *minor* details would cute. TR having drill parades in a barracks style base. NC machinery mining in a factory style base. A little team of VS science types pee'ing their pants with glee at any archeology related base. Maybe these mini-events only trigger ifnthe base becomes at leaat 2 lat-links from a front line
Its kind of an RPG.... I mean you play your role in the world so the argument can be made at the least
Thats an awful comparison and there are NPCs The people yelling at you to fight harder< Theres also lore
So your argument for putting MOBs (Mobile Objects) that function as NPCs is a few .ogg's or .mp3's, and some text on a website? How about this. Multibox box a few NPC's of your own at a warpgate. And see if any Role-Players come around to engage in RP with you.
in firefall npc´s are populate every little base with technicians/medics/civillians etc. it add a lot of immersion
I think RPers have about over a hundred games they could pick from, including every other Daybreak game out there. How about this, I'll change my position on this if you can get a platoon of them to sit in a Warpgate and RP for an hour. Shouldn't be too hard if there is even that many of them. I was able to get far more than that in my RP events in WoW, EQ, EQ2, and even in a Minecraft Server.
Why warpgate? You could RP in game This entire thing is beside the point as well You dont have to RP to play a role in an mmorpg Youre just your character in the story Planetside is less focused on that but the concept is still the same Just another soldier in a never ending war
Why not, instead of human NPC: NS robots? When you capture the base, you hack the system so they turn to your side. I think it's easier and the 3d model can be a lot lighter if there is a ressource issue.
