Hello, I'm so excited to see that the lattice system is in effect and be down to help test it out. Unfortunately my ISP imposes a download limit of 100 gigs a month (which I easily meet every month). An 8 gig download for me is usually reserved for a new game or some other important large file download. Currently it seems a little odd that I would have to re-download the whole game for what will ultimately end up a patch for the live servers. I have tried copying my Planetside 2 folder (renaming Planetside 2 Test), and using the Test installer on top, this did not work and I still had a pending 8 gig download. I then tried to copy a new Planetside 2 Test on top of my Test installation, which resulted in the exe operating like the normal live server install. Any suggestions?
download it? its a completly different build to live.. or find someone in your area whom you can get to download it for you
Basically, about 8 gigs on the test client are different from 8 gigs on the release client. There's no getting around it unfortunately. The indar map data alone is 4-6gigs at least. To human perception it just seems like they moved some stuff around and reconfigured some stuff... but for much of the game's architecture, moving stuff around from point a to point b means you need to redownload a and b, same with if you reconfigure some aspects from each... this is not how it works on all games, but this is a mmo, and it needs to be optimized data-wise as much as possible, so these types of scenarios are kind of hard to work around.
I sped up my download just a bit by copying some of the files from live. If you copy C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2\Resources to C:\Users\Public\Sony Online Entertainment\Installed Games\PlanetSide 2 Test\Resources it takes the number of files that need updating from 2000ish to around 600. I do not know how much it helped me since I still had plenty to download, but I think it helped a bit.
You should be able to have a specific folder inside the ps2 install called test or w/e with all the updated files needed for the test severs. Then when you select test in the launcher or whatever it just references those files instead of the ones for live. 8gb for test + all the patches that will happen to it sucks.
