I thought lock continent would be a good thing!

Too bad for them. All this is doing is making players leave.

Same way lattice made them leave.

There seems to be this pervasive belief that we have a massive influx of new players all the time.

When they introduced lattice i was in an outfit on connery called 82in. Every night we ran a platoon at the very least. For months. A week after lattice 82in was done. Almost everyone quit.

This is 10x worse than that for me and a lot of people i have talked to.

Some of you may like it, yay for you. But in the end radically changing core game mechanics midway through a games life is always a recipe for disaster.

Forcing everyone into extremely boring zerg fights probly not going to help player count either.

Now if your intention is to become even more niche, to further reduce your playerbase. If your intention is to alienate a large portion of your playerbase.

    Then you have succeeded wildly.

Yup. Same thing was said about lattice:

"Yay! Large scale fights now, game is epic" *two weeks later* "waah, everything is just zergs and decided by pop!"

Can't wait to see what happens when they add sanctuaries.

Get a new computer. If you work, you can finance one easily.

The lattice, and continent locking, would have done great things for the game, if higby didn't half *** them both and screw up royally

When the lattice crowd asked for lattice, we wanted, and expected ps1 style lattice, not this hex-lattice abomination.

When we asked for continent locking, we wanted and expected ps1 style locking mechanics, which would only work with an inlaid global lattice system. What we got was another half *****, barley implemented idea, courtesy of LOLhigby.

Cool so if you like it good for you. But if i don't like it why should i HAVE to play there? I won't do it. It makes it so unfun that i have cancelled the membership i have had since january 2013 and spend most of my time playing ESO and the rest lobbying here for a change to this system.

Yesterday during the first Hossin alert i logged in and Indar was continent locked. I did not get a chance to defend Indar because I was not online. I see people defending this by saying that it is war, and these things happen in war. Your enemies prevent you from going to the places you want and make you fight to take them back.

If this was war, I would agree. but this is not war; this is a video game. I log in to have fun in my spare time. If I log in to see my favorite continents are locked and the game will not let me play on them, I'm not going to fight for two hours to take them back, i will simply log off and do something else. I know I'm not alone here. Changing core aspects of the game in ways that drive players away is only going to send Planetside 2 further into the grave that SOE's been digging for months now.

Continents getting locked off an alert win feels really arbitrary. It's like rotating warpgates, except it's continents that get rotated and at a much faster pace. If it at least required a dominating victory (or at least quite a bit ahead of the other two factions), but getting a lock bonus at the end of a alert due to having 40% territory just seems kinda strange.

Locking continents themselves does help condense the population, though. Over zealous claims of 'game is dying' aside, the more continents we get the more focus needs to put on keeping the population together so that fights actually happen. Maybe later versions of continent locking will feel more streamlined and polished. Phase 1 and all that.

So gratified to see so many others share this exact sentiment with me.

PS2 is way better than PS1. PS1 was awful and would flop in today's market. Take off the rosey glasses y'all

The devs have been unbelievable the last few weeks and I appreciate every last bit of it. Hossin own, cont locking owns (more alerts though please!), etc etc

    Can't wait for the Valkyrie

I think the only problem with continent locking right now is that we only have four continents. When two of them are locked, you take away half of the choices. It's a bit of a shock, but it's nothing game breaking.

If you don't like having X continent being locked, defend it. For example, I was playing in Connery yesterday at around 7-8 AM, and the TR had more than 90% of Indar owned. The thing that was interesting in the situation was that the TR had an underpop in the server as a whole, and yet they owned Indar... I'm not saying that it's bad that people don't feel like going to Indar anymore, but I imagine that those people that are turned off by the continent locking see this situation and come to the forums to complain.

The coolest thing about continent locking is that it's completely preventable and countered. If your favorite continent is locked, try to lock another continent... Then, like magic, you'll have the old continent to play with... What's the problem here?

    Nope, sorry.

The "rush lanes" / lattice roadmap post, from the very beginning, was a lattice connection of existing hexes. While there were plenty of anti-lattice and anti-hex arguments going on, I don't recall any feedback from pro-latticers saying that it should be any different than the early design roadmap screenshots. I even remember a thread "PS1 vets are going to nerdgasm over the picture Higby just tweeted" which was nearly a picture of what we got at release. The only feedback criticizing the plans were anti-lattice people, everyone else was "this should be in the game ASAP" or "should've been release like this." If you disagreed, you were a "ghostcapper."

Pretty much the same with continent locking. I knew a year ago April that it would just be a non-linked locking system, I posted against it. People still wanted it, because a mechanic with "locking" in its name was in PS1. "If you disagree you're a COD kiddie with no idea of the strategic awesomeness endgame meta this will bring." Again, the only criticism, constructive or otherwise, was from opposition. Every other post was "This should have been in game at release..."

Cont Locking and Lattice are doing exactly what they did in PS1: Funneling enemies into conflicts.

People who rail against Hossin and Continent Locking are certainly not the kind of people we need playing this game. Back in the PS1 days we'd fight across four or five continents in a night, pushing from one to the next. No body boo-hoo'd over the fact they were leaving their favorite continent.

The idea of wanting to just stay on one continent all of the time is laughable.

I was holding my responses back until I had put in some real play-time on Hossin. Well, I have, and it is AWESOME! This isn't even it's final form yet and it is amazingly fun. Vision is cut - Great!. Vehicles are jammed up - Great! Infantry and LAs reign supreme - Great! Air forces are muted - Great! All of these things add challenge and depth.

I'll tell you why people are against it: it pushes them out of their comfort zone. They've got four or five bases that they like to fight over on Indar, and that's it. They have all of their little sneaky spots picked out and they don't want to do anything but that.

Well too ****ing bad. This is the direction Planetside has ALWAYS been going. This is the direction Planetside with CONTINUE to go. This is the RIGHT direction for Planetside.

If you can't handle it, THAT'S ON YOU. You're the weak link, and you need to wash the **** out. Go play a MOAB if you wanna play the same ****ing map over and over.

the continent locking is a cheap way to address a smaller player base, and its sorta working, but i agree, the resource revamp willl pretty much make or break the game

GAME IS DYING! ONLY LATTICE CAN SAVE IT!

    After:-

OMG, WHY DID SOE PUT IN LATTICE? IT SUCKS, I'M QUITTING THE GAME!

............I sense a pattern. People just like to hate things
  18. Bortasz

    Pure ********.
My faction take indar = Indar is locked I cannot play there.
You faction take Indar = Indar is Locked I cannot play there.

    So what's the point?

To me hossin is the only continent they put their creativity to work, they made every base different. this is a fine example of that, but thing is it's just too visually spammed, there's so many things on the map and so many hard to pass by paths that they made it a choke point fest and a place where the gods of olympus blessed the LAs (i'm a LA and it just makes it way too easy for me), i decided to go slug shotgun LA sniper these days and that's the only way others have a chance against the mobility of a LA in hossin
