I thought lock continent would be a good thing!

maybe if it was fixed to 2 hours at most.

I mean, after losing continent you like, just lock another continent to unlock first one with any overpop faction. PS2 was always semi-broken, just use it to your advantage.

If you don't like continent locking team up and win your continent back. don't request to remove a CORE MECHANIC from the game.....why

Umm because the game was never like that for the 1.5 years ive been playing.

Because i have spent lots of time on Esamir and Amerish and i find them both to be very bland and homogeneous. I absolutely hate fog obscuring everything. Hence i hate Hossin.

We have lost everything the game started out as. When i started instant action was awesome. You had a bunch of choices of where to go and it would tell you the size of the fight at each location. You had a choice to zerg or not to zerg.

You had a choice which continent you were playing on.

Glad some of you like it, but if this is supposed to be a core mechanic it should have been in at the beginning.

All we get is less and less freedom. We are funneled into giant battles in places we dont like and we continue to have server mergers that tell us the game pop is dying.

They just keep willy nilly changing the game, seemingly on a whim. I know i dont appreciate it when something i enjoy is taken away or changed so radically it no longer resembles what it used to be.

Yay we got a new continent, but now instead of being able to choose between 3 continents we now only get to choose two. And they both suck.

I'm so tired of hearing about PS1. If its so bloody great go play it.

This is a core mechanic of THIS GAME, you can't just remove it because you don't like it. Learn to play with this core mechanic because it is a part of the games CORE, meaning this game won't work properly if it is removed. Remember a few days ago when you were playing a giant TDM with no reason to fight in sight?

Now you have a reason to fight! and win!

Removing continent locking is like removing the pawns from chess. It NEEDS to be there to work. You should actually take a look at a PS1 wiki so you can see exactly where all of this is being pulled from. The devs have realized catering to the BF/COD crowd won't make them money, let alone retain players

If anything they should have just made it so that after a continent has been won territory there no longer matters in the overall scheme of things. Say Vanu captures Indar, then the fight moves to another continent and anything that happens on indar doesnt affect the outcome of the planetwide fight. Or whatever the goal of continent locking is.

To make a change like this isnt going to get you new players.

All its going to do is push loyal auraxium membership customers like myself to play other games.

Take Connery for example. There are always fights on Amerish. A lot of times i go there to get air resources and ill do a instant action and there are always good fights there.

Its not like no one plays there. Its just that most people prefer indar.

    We just like it better.

So forcing the majority of people to play on continents that they dont like because a vocal minority demands it is silly.

The idea that I should be forced to play somewhere i dont prefer, because YOU dont like Indar is preposterous.

If everyone hates indar so much, just go to another continent. If you start taking bases they will come to stop you.

Or could continue to make the game more and more and more linear until it appeals to 10 people who rule forumside with an iron fist.

This makes no sense. How does continent locking make me have a reason to fight?

The reason to fight is because its fun.

The base capturing is ONLY there to FACILITATE fighting.

Who gives a flip about a stupid useless base?

I care about killing bad guys and only that.

    Stupid useless dumb bases.

Oh now its suddenly fun to capture them because if you dont you cant play where you want to play.

    Sorry doesnt work that way.

I will answer this since it dominoes into the rest of your reply

-I don't like the continent i am currently on because the one i want is LOCKED
-The only way to unlock it is to work with my team to cap bases and get the Continent i want to play on UNLOCKED
-In order to play what i want i need to fight and win

This is your reason, it requires effort.

Motivation and reward, two things this game was severely lacking.

It only motivates me to log out. I simply dont want to be forced to play on a continent i do not like.

Its not an incentive for anything. Im gonna fight as hard as i can every time i play and bases have nothing to do with it.

Its just making me not want to play and its making many other not want to play too.

Dont really want to argue about it, if you like continent locking thats cool, but i think a lot of people dont like it and we have a right to be heard.

There are other ways for people who care about zerging and capping bases which as i have said are just places to facilitate fights.

Capping bases isnt fun. Well i guess its fun for some people, but usually its only fun until the resistance dies, and then its boring waiting. There is nothing inherently fun about sitting there waiting for a base timer.

There is nothing fun for me about zerging and having whichever side has the biggest force dominates.

Its just a boring 4th faction grind fest.

Less and less freedom all the time. I am deeply saddened. And i am surprised to find that most people dont like freedom. That is why so many of us are slaves.

You will find very few people who disagree with this statement.

That said, they were planning on just launching with only a single continent at first, so it doesn't surprise me that there wasn't a ton of thought put into how to lock that single continent.

If it's any consolation to you, Indar is unlikely to be locked, will likely cause a ghostcapping frenzy to unlock it, and the current mechanic is temporary in nature, until the actual continental lattice is in place -- admittedly, that can also keep you off Indar, so perhaps something better to look forward to is the fifth continent of Searhus... unless you literally only want to play Indar, in which case, you're screwed.

I read only "indarside indarside" ... on Woodland two of ther other Continents are locked.
Hossin and Indar are the only one open!
So what? If all leave Inar, there is only Hossin open... cmon that suxx.

I was afk for 1h (cooking etc.) and a 1/3 per faction continent turned just red... in 1h...
As NC player I can ONLY play on Indar (at Woodland) as on the other continents we just get kicked out.

As I'm pretty new to the game (less than 20h gametime) it starts to feel like I this feature will break the neck of this Game.

Locking continents complete for 24h is tu hughe... I log in, fight on a continent and it seems "fair" trades, afk 1h, everything TR.
Amerish was complete taken by Vanu. While that there were still to much of your "Indarside" player to stop NC from locking Indar.
So I guess over the night it was locked by TR or Vanu as well... forced to go to Hossin.

Forced in a Game, where multiple Players here said "Play on different continents is a key feature and much needed" - I can't.
Impossible because this feature blocks 3/4 Continents. 2 of them was taken in a 2h radius, so they are blocked alike for the same time and ONLY Indar and Hossin stay open.
I'm new, I only tested Inar (Tutorial dropped me there) I dont feel like I want to swap over to Hossin because the game Force me.

How can "free choice of the Continent" be a key feature and still locking them as well?
The first key feature prevents the second feature from beeing useful.

    Think about it...

Continent locking is easily the dumbest change SoE has ever made to PS2.
SoE, I understand wanting to get more people into continents other than Indar, but continent locking is NOT the way.

Just created a Miller VS... for the fun.

    Indar and Amerish are locked.
    VS pop on Hossin = 21 %
    VS pop on Esamir = 17 %

How am I supposed to have fun in this situation ?

I'm actually a PS2 player not a tank nerd. And anyone who says something like 'delicious tank nerd whine tears' is more than likely pretty nerdy lol.

I play everything, and probably play tanks less than air or infantry, but tanking is the one thing that i can do with my casual friend where he can have a good time and not quit. It's fun when you have a noob friend to jump in a tank its an easy way to stay together and work as a team.

Trying to get someone to keep up with you on foot and not get gibbed constantly is difficult to say the least.

So many trolls on this forum.

All you're likely to get though are the population going down that much faster (poor performance in big fights + even more punishment for not being top faction + lack of choice = people leaving).

Esamir and amerish are perfectly viable for tank play. Hossim maybe you're right.

No problem with continents lock system.
But all the continents should be designed, as varied as Indar.
  19. Silkensmooth

I have said why i dont like the other continents many many times.

Amerish and Esamir are very bland and homogeneous. Which means they are the same everywhere you look. I dont mind going to Amerish for infantry fights, but the boring landscape soon makes me want to leave.

Esamir is also very boring, and also blindingly bright which tends to cause headaches and at the very least eye strain.

The other continents dont feel like real places to me. They feel like zones that someone was too tired to design correctly. they have no variety.

Amerish sucks to drive tanks on. Endless detours mean you spend more time trying to drive over and around mountains than you do fighting.

I like Indar because i always know where i am due to the variety of landscapes. Everything doesnt look the same.

I love SW indar with its pretty green rolling hills and trees. Its not too cluttered, just the right amount of cover and a fun place to fight.

I'm one of those people who stays on Indar during alerts because i just dont like the other continents.

I run very low graphics settings because i don't like fog.

If you like that, great, im happy for you.

Yea, remove trees mountains and add more Savannahs. And remove the annoying fog on Esamir, add higher max altitude on Hossin, remove some walls in bases on Hossin, change Amerish colour from dark to something brighter.
